Packers Question of the Day: Takeaways From The Loss

The Packers were swept by the Lions for the first time since 1991. In their defense, they didn't have Aaron Rodgers.

That excuse can only hold so much weight. At some point, you need to accept the fact that the team around Rodgers just isn't jampacked with enough talent, coached properly, whatever it may be. Pick your poison.

That was put on full display this season, and despite the Packers going 3-6 with Brett Hundley under center, they did it in the worst possible way. Sloppy, unorganized football with a cluster of injuries in-between. Fortunately, the 2017 season is no more and we can take the lengthy step into 2018. The Packers did that on Monday by making some staff adjustments.

What were your takeaways from the loss?

Honestly.
I really didn't take anything away from the game that I already didn't know.

Hundley struggles.
Williams runs hard.
Cobb can still be dangerous out of the backfield.
The defense needs upgraded.

The biggest news obviously came the day after. Firing Capers and defensive coaches. Thompson transitioning to a new role.

My takeaways from this is that the team wants changes made to improve. Hopefully they make the right ones!

Most of these bargain bin players that TT has been trying to pass off NFL level talent have no business in the league. New management might as well jettison most of them and start over. And this era of entitlement has to stop, if Dix plays like he did in this game he should be benched....orcut, even though he’s a No. 1. Playing time should be based on performance, not draft position.

Next season will be HHCD's contract year. He was awful this year and doesn't look worth the $5,597.000 he will make this next season. He has no business being a starter as pathetic as he has been all of 2017.

A main reason I don't want Darren Perry as DC. He's HHCD's position coach and he played terrible and didn't look motivated to play hard. That's on Perry IMO. HHCD had no threat of being benched, so no consequences for his terrible effort and poor play, also falls on Perry and Dom.

You can bet with a new DC HHCD's 2017 " vacation" is over.

Takeaway: when you play a bunch of 2nd and 3rd string guys on the road against a mostly healthy lineup, even in a meaningless game, you're likely to get gobsmacked.

Takeaway: it's hard to assess talent when you're overmatched and poorly schemed.

Takeaway: running a trick play on a meaningless 2pt conversion late in a meaningless game lacks class. I think Jim Caldwell has been playing too much Madden.

Stafford had his super season end on a look at me play. Boy he sure showed who's Caper's Daddy. What an accomplishment. Loser.

Only takeaway, we did just enough to get rid of Dom and Ted.

About the game, who cares really. Mock draft time.

2018 started way better then 2017 Packer season ever was. Now hire one of the three guys up top for GM. My choice would be Wolf. Then go get new DC outside of this team. Need a new voice. Someone with edge and fire in there belly!!! Excited for 2018!!

My takeaway is that Hundley went 3-8 not 3-6 while under center and that he should be chucked with TT and DC.
Zach, I appreciate the efforts that you and all the CHTV contributors make to bring articles to us to inform and enable us to discuss the Packers, but check your facts and or typos before hitting the send or whatever button to submit your article.
As for the game(s) we ended the season with a 3 games losing streak and our team made the "games" look like practice sessions for our opponents. I don't think the team gave up on MM until the end of the Lions game but the level of talent displayed by our players, especially our alleged backup QB was pathetic. With a few exceptions we looked like boys trying to play a man's game.
Fortunately, we have seen DC chucked and TT moved within the organization. To prevent becoming the Cleveland Browns we need to make the correct moves with our new GM and DC hires, especially with the new GM. Then we need to aggressively pursue and sign FAs that can help this team win in 2018. We've already seen some of that by locking up Adams and Linsley. It needs to continue.
As for the draft, it's always a crap shoot but maybe a new approach will provide better talent than what we have achieved from several previous drafts. Go Pack Go! Thanks, Since '61

Same here. Our annual Lambeau games were painful, not fun this year. Felt like a preview of what it will be like when Rodgers retires. Was like watching the 70s and early 80s Packers.

I found out how much the team don't believe in Hundley, The Packers Left Tackle played his heart out, And MM, is a poor judge of Talent

I think that sloppy unorganized writing is pretty much to be expected for 'writers' covering a sloppy unorganized team.

It is just a shame you did not notice this in the YEARS prior to Rodgers getting hurt.......the best QB of all time covers up sloppy and unorganized doesn't he?

How many of your prior articles now are complete proven wrong?
