I think offering him similar money only if earned through incentives AND making him a free agent after this season would unleash his all pro performance.

I'd happily keep him with his current contract, except for the fact he's missed exactly 50% of his games the last 4 years, he's likely no longer the shutdown corner of his pre-injuries youth and there's the chance that he gets weird again this year (1 game suspension) and seems to have a sometimes questionable attitude. For those reasons, I don't see him getting big guaranteed money as a free agent and the Packers need to be very careful with any new revised contract. Having a huge need to add to the CB room makes it a tough call.

He still makes not only the CB room better, not only the rookie WRs better, by the entire WR room better. The only reason I don't say the same for all our DBs is I'll let X say if he thinks he's better with Ja on the team.

Good —sign him, or in other words, I hope he accepts the offer.
Go Packers!!!

I don't think he'll accept it till the last possible second, but I hope it works out for the Packers.

The reality is that JA is still under contract - so he has little or no incentive, at the present time, to accept a re-structured contract However the real pressure point will be the mandatory mini-camp - when the Packers will want JA under a re-structured contract (should be become injured). So it makes sense that JA and his agent will negotiate up to the last minute in order to maximize a new contract. Alternatively the Packers could cut him - with JA then facing an uncertain and largely spent free agent market.

Offering JA a re-structured contract was always the most likely endgame for Gutekunst. This has been a classic "can't see the forest for the trees" story by a majority of the media. So I'm now expecting an announcement of a re-structured contract - anytime between the OTAs and the mandatory mini-camp.

"i didn't want to hear anything until training camp" - is not exactly predictive analysis.

Negotiate by all means. But ultimately (even at the 11th hour) remember we need Jaire to be the contender we want to be. Every other team in our division has improved dramatically over the off season. Jaire wants to stay and we want him. Just get it done!

at the end of the day the Packers defense is better with Alexander.

and if he isn't making the packer defense better, then he's making someone else defense better...
