Packers lose Lucas Patrick to the Bears

The versatile interior lineman will go to Chicago on a two year deal.

Lucas Patrick saved the Packers bacon when rookie center Josh Myers went down with a knee injury this past season.

That security blanket along the interior of the offensive line is now gone.

From NFL Network:

Source: The #Bears agreed to terms with former #Packers interior OL Lucas Patrick.

— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) March 16, 2022

Patrick, 28, joined the Packers in 2016 as an undrafted free agent. The Duke product played 73 games in Green Bay, including 34 starts — 28 of which came over the last two seasons.

This past season, Patrick played in all 17 games with 13 starts, opening at left guard in Week 1, at center in Weeks 5, 7-12 and 14-17 and at right guard in Week 18.

The Bears are reportedly giving the former Packer a two year deal, with $4 million fully guaranteed in the first year.

Like you wouldn’t root for the Bears next season if they gave you $4 million guaranteed.

He was a handy player to have. I was not always nice to him in my comments but I never doubted his character and work ethic.

He is and was good depth and can start effectively. He earned his pay and we had no money to keep him.

Nothing to do with Patrick but saw Bulaga was cut. Think he only played in 11 games in two seasons for the chargers.

Bring him back in a Kelly role and price?

My understanding is he has chronic back issues.

...and at this stage he probably has barn-door hinges in place of actual knees.

The Packers clearly like the young offensive linemen they have (Runyon, Newman, Van Lanen, Hansen, etc.). With Patrick and Turner both gone, the Packer O-line will get much younger. Wish both of those guys the best luck, they were good Packers and good people.

The UDFA did a great job. However, with younger, cheaper players and cap issues it had to be done.

I think Hanson is being groomed to fill that role of backing up the IOL positions and be #2 C.

Maybe opens door to bring Turner back if he passes physical.

Turner’s injury is expected to be minor. Just not yet technically ready to practice. He will get paid by someone.

I suggest - play in the casino. I had no idea before that in this way you can make very good money. For starters, you can play in demo mode, and then, when you start playing for money, make small bets so that, if there is no luck, you will not lose a large amount at once. In order not to get into a fraudulent casino, you can create an account in online casino in Chile https://firstwebcasino.com/cl/ I have been playing in it for a long time. I like that the support responds quickly and the money is withdrawn on time.

Can you blame the Bears? They seem to have a tough time drafting offensive linemen, so why not sign a proven product that doesn't break the bank?

I thought he was a good player for us, and a bargain, but I figured he might get an offer we shouldn't match.

Not to continue beating this horse, but we've lost Patrick, we've lost Turner, Jenkins won't be ready for the opener and Bakhtiari hasn't played a game of football in a long time so we can't be sure of what we've got. Myers hasn't shown he can play a season of NFL football. So you can like Newman and Runyan and Nijman and still not like the unit as a whole.

I moving to DEFCON 4 on this. Sound the Klaxon and flash the lights. We're setting ourselves for a disaster if we can't keep solid, capable, experienced blockers in front of Rodgers and the RBs.

The same was said last year.... I trust the team knows what they have..... plus, a later signing before camp will maybe happen.....or even a higher draft pick...

I trust the Packers here. They will do what they always do, draft and develop.

We just picked up an extra 4th round comp pick. I see an offensive lineman in our future.

Trust, but verify. I'm a Dad. I trust my kids, but that doesn't mean I trust them to take a gun out of the safe and tuck it in their waistband on the way to a party.

The comp pick is nice. We have 5 picks between 28 and 140. But that doesn't mean we'll get a guy at #140, or any spot, that's gonna help the team this year.
