Packers Interview Defensive Tackle Prospect at All-Star Game

A Packers scout reportedly interviewed Kent State defensive tackle Ishmaa'ily Kitchen at the Casino del Sol College All-Star Game.

The Packers lose and the offseason hot stove talk begins.

The college all-star circuit heats up this week with the Casino Del Sol All-Star Game in Tucson, Arz. taking place this evening at 7 p.m. Central time.

And according to a report from The Vindicator in Youngstown, Ohio covering local college prospects, a Packers scout interviewed Kent State defensive tackle Ishmaa'ily Kitchen.

From the article:

Kitchen started six of his nine games this season, recording 13 tackles and 2.5 for loss. He missed three games with a dislocated elbow this fall after appearing in all 36 games over the previous three seasons.

His size (6-foot-3, 334 pounds) could be appealing to NFL teams looking for a space-clogging tackle in the middle.

“I’ve been dreaming about the NFL since I was a little kid playing for the [New Bethel] Braves” in the Volney Rogers league,” said Kitchen, who will train in Texas after tonight’s game. “It’s great playing against people from around the country, competing and having fun.”

Casino Del Sol practices have been open to NFL scouts and both (Toledo cornerback Desmond) Marrow and Kitchen have talked to several teams over the last week. Marrow said he’s spoken with scouts from the Bucanneers, Seahawks, Saints, Dolphins, Eagles, Texans, Jaguars and 49ers, while Kitchen said he’s been interviewed by the Packers, 49ers and Chiefs.

NFLDraftScout.com has Kitchen rated as the 33rd ranked defensive tackle in this year's senior class. He's generally considered to be a late-round draft prospect if not an undrafted free agent.

Kitchen would appear to have the size to play nose tackle. The Packers certainly aren't looking for replacements for B.J. Raji and Ryan Pickett, but like all NFL teams, they're always looking for depth and a diamond in the rough.

Tonight's Casino del Sol All-Star game will be televised locally on Fox Sports Arizona, but it's possible that viewers from outside the area will be able to see the game if they have satellite service or premium cable packages.
