Packers In The Community: Week 9

The Packers donated $1,000 to the Germantown, Wis. high school football program this week.

Frequently overlooked is what the Green Bay Packers players and the   organization are doing outside the playing field. In an attempt to  bring  light to their charitable contributions to the community and  balanced coverage, we bring you  this weekly feature...

  • The Packers donated $1,000 to the Germantown High School football program after naming head coach Phil Datka as the team's High School Coach of the Week.

Datka, in his 42nd and final season as the head coach of the Division 1 program, led the Warhawks to a 17-10 upset victory over No. 1-ranked Homestead in the second level of the WIAA playoffs last Saturday. The victory marked Germantown’s first win in the last 10 years over the Highlanders.

  • The Packers are teaming up with Oshkosh Defense and the Wisconsin National Guard to make Sunday's date at Lambeau Field against the Dallas Cowboys to be their Military Appreciation Game.

Pregame activities will feature a signature wall in the Lambeau Field Atrium for game attendees to sign. For each signature, Oshkosh Defense will donate $2 to the Fisher House Foundation, which provides a "home away from home" for military families to be close to a loved one during hospitalization for an illness, disease or injury.

Phil Datka was the Vice Principal when I was a student at Washington High School (now known as Germantown High School), and the primary disciplinarian as well.

Let's just say Phil and I knew each other pretty well by the end of my time in high school. :)

He's a good man. It's hard to believe he's been doing it for 42 years. Congrats, Mr. Datka. Go Warhawks!!
