Packers honor 50s teams with history-inspired alternate uniform

The 50s Classic Uniform will debut Week 7 at Lambeau Field against Washington.

The Green Bay Packers on Thursday introduced their new, history-inspired third uniform: the 50s Classic Uniform. The new uniforms will debut at Lambeau Field on Oct. 24 against Washington.

The 50s Classic Uniform is inspired by the team's uniforms from 1950-1953, which was the second time the team wore green and gold in its history. The Packers first wore green in the mid-to-late 1930s.

For those looking for some background on the era, this is a good read:

Maybe they can find a way to incorporate that poop color into these new uniforms.

Man, I couldn't disagree more.

While not my favorite, I feel like the Navy and pigskin brown has a classic feel to it.

The green is so bright and the yellow so washed out on these, I really dislike these uni's.. It feels like a Oregon Ducks alternate uni that didn't make the cut.

But hey, that's the thing with taste, it varies. Just win, baby.

I like it. It sort of reminds me of an early attempt to have a color rush uniform.

I hate the monochrome look, just one color for jerseys and pants.
Uniformly ugly!

It's Ashwaubenon HS vs. WFT.

Still better than the other throwbacks and the all-white color rush unis.

Call me an outlier but the all white won me over. Much better than the Seattle Ecto Cooler look or the bumblebee suits.

Oh, those neon unis and the all-yellows were absolutely awful.

I must be the only person on the planet who liked the bumblebees. But Seattle hasn't looked good since Holmgren axed their original look The neon greens are truly hideous.

If they want throwback uni's go all leather head helmet and canvas knickers, cardboard shoulder pads and a fifth of rot gut brandy for the medical corps--Just Do It !

I like these better than the current version. Add the "G" to the helmet and get some variety for pants, etc.

They're pretty snazzy--I like them a lot. I might not even mind a semi-permanent switch. Hey, it never hurts to freshen things up from time to time. We should do a fan poll on this.

It's a matter of taste, but these retro-uniforms taste terrible to me.
I like the forest green with the gold trim so much better.
It's a subtle but striking difference.
Nothing personal, splitpea1, and all the best to you.

Who cares. It’s football, not a fashion show. It baffles me that people care about what they wear, but I guess that’s just me.

Having been a Packers fan in the 1950s, I can do without any reminders of that miserable period. They reportedly used this uniform in the interval 1950-53, when our record was a dismal 14-33-1. Maybe the underlying purpose here is to make us appreciate our relative success in recent years. If nothing else, this evocation of failure may serve as a further reminder of Lombardi's greatness in turning things around.

I would be fine just going with just the regular home and road uniforms. At least these are ok. Some of the past versions were more distracting than attractive.

Uniforms look fine, but most of the teams in the 50's were pretty bad - I'm surprised they would bring that up, much less honor them!

I'm with you somewhat MilkCan44, but it does seem good to honor the men who played hard and persevered through those down seasons.
If any of these players are still alive, how about giving them a cut of the profits from these jerseys? They certainly weren't paid much back in the day, and at their age could probably use the money.

Sorry but all of these one color uniforms remind me of my kids pajamas when they were little. It makes the players look like a bunch of little kids playing football.

There is no reason for any of this except yet another league money grab to sell more jerseys etc... Thanks, Since '61

Most of these attempts to grab "fans" attention are simply greedy money grabs and have little to nothing to do with the game of football.

They don't make the game better, they don't make the players safer, they don't provide any tangible benefit except to league pocketbooks.

I get that it is a business and that profit motive is important. But...

At what price league and team integrity? How about building some fan attention and following through better football instead of gimmicks?

Teams should have a choice in this clown show and those like the Packers, who have built a rabid fan base with a long and storied history should have a choice in whether or not they wear pajamas to play a game of football.

There is a lot of diverse fan-wear available in the Packers pro shop and in after-market retailers. There is really no need to pollute the product on the field to sell swag for teams that have earned that sort of following. These attempts cheapen the legacy of storied franchises.

Oh yeah... and Get Off My Lawn! ;-)

C'mon over anytime, JB, and we'll go outside and yell at clouds together.

I did like the blue/yellow/white ACME Packers gear, and even bought a hat. This nod to the 1950-53 teams doesn't trip my trigger.

I have an Eddie Lazy throwback Acme days jersey - circle number thing, I like it.

Dont really care to see the team wear them though.

If we beat the WFT they'll look GREAT! 😍

If they lose I’ll never want to see this uniform again! 🤮

That’s the truth. 😏

I like them... there's a classic feel to them and I've never been crazy about yellow pants.

I think a fresh new uniform is in order for this team as soon as the AR era ends. It's a way different team than what we've been used to for the last 30 years or so.
