Packers Daily Links: Randall Cobb Shoots ESPN/Under Armour Commercial

Details are sparse, but Packers wide receiver Randall Cobb reportedly returned to his hometown of Alcoa, Tenn. where he ran a youth football camp and shot a commercial for ESPN and Under Armour that is scheduled to air nationwide in August. “(Cobb) told me to throw a ball high over his head,” high school quarterback Mitchell McClurg is quoted as saying. “I threw one maybe too high. He jumped up, turned and contorted his body, went up and snagged it out of the sky with one hand. That’s one catch that will probably be on the ESPN commercial. Even the film crew went, ‘Wow!’"

Another Packers wide receiver will be appearing in a television commercial as well. Jordy Nelson will star in a Wisconsin tourism advertisement this fall and will premiere locally. "The Greater Green Bay Convention and Visitors Bureau will hold a premiere party at the Meyer Theater in Green Bay on Aug. 1," according to the Associated Press. "The ad will start running in Milwaukee, the Twin Cities and Chicago on Sept. 9." It's also reported that Nelson will write a monthly blog for TravelWisconsin.com.
Linebacker Nick Perry is named the fifth most important Packer of 2013 by FoxSportsWisconsin.com. "Green Bay needs Perry to be very good this upcoming season," writes Paul Imig. "The expectations can't be too outrageous, but Perry has to be a strong complementary piece for the Packers. Starting 16 games is necessary, but so is him being able to be a consistent pass-rusher and dependable run-stopper off the edge." The depth at outside linebacker is rather thin, so if Perry doesn't emerge, some of the only options beyond him are second-year player Dezman Moses and sixth round draft choice Nate Palmer.
Defensive lineman B.J. Raji is named the sixth most important Packer of 2013 as part of the same series.

If Nick Perry can be a decent pass rusher and Datone can hold his own ...no reason we shouldn't have a top ten defense.

Top Ten D? I don't really care about statistical rankings, but I want to see a Dominant D. One that shuts down running games and gets after the QB while the secondary provides aggressive man coverage.
For that to happen we need Perry to be a factor, not just a decent pass rusher. And Jones to provide a semblance of Jenkins. If Perry is close to that, our OLB are the equal of SF. With Jones playing similar to Jenkins our DL can match SF, while our secondary is better!
This D needs to step up and become a force again like it was in '09 and '10!

Couldn't have said it better. If this defense can stay healthy and the offense actually produces a running game (And I think they will) the Packers could have a dominate defense. Raji needs someone better than C.J. Wilson playing next to him to be truly effective. Jones can be that guy. In 2010 we saw what B.J. could do while playing along side Jenkins. (Sorry guys but its true). Our secondary, depending on the development of Jennings, McMillan, or Richardson could be dominate. Hayward, Williams, House, and Shields, that's a damn good bunch of corners.

BTW...Note to Cobb. Please keep the commercials to a minimum. Look what happened to Jennings. He had more Old Spice Commercials than catches last season. Win another Superbowl or three before loading up on commercials

A DOMINANT d would be great but we all know that isnt highly likely. But with a TOP TEN d coupled with our offense that should be even better this year because of our two sick additions at rb. We will be an amazingly good team......this was my point.

The D last year was ranked 11th IIRC. So Top 10 isn't much of an improvement. Getting a running game will make the team a lot better no doubt. I want to see an aggressive dominant D similar to '09 and '10. That would give the Pack a couple shots at SB's for the next 5 yrs.

Defense needs to improve on third down. Gave up way too many 1st downs on 3rd & med. to long last yr. I think the offense will help the D out a lot by converting a much higher Pct. on third down especially on short yardage. O should vastly improve time of possession and keep the D on the sidelines this season.
Concerned about ILB ( speed, toughness) and safety.... Offense will be fun to watch!!
