Packers Announce Demetri Goodson Suspended Four Games

The veteran cornerback violated the league's policy on performance enhancing substances.

The Packers announced this afternoon that cornerback Demetri Goodson has been suspended without pay for four games by the NFL for violating the league's policy on performance enhancing substances.

The veteran corner had seen increased playing time in 2015 after Sam Shields' extended absence gave Goodson quality snaps, mostly in the dime package.

The former 2014 sixth-round pick will be able to take part in off-season workouts and training camp, but will miss the first four games of the regular season.

Performing Enhancements??? The guy was THAT bad WITH PED's. Time to add CB to the ever growing list of needs for our Packers. One injury to the Secondary and they could be in some trouble. Gunther looks promising and hopefully improves on last year. Goodson I never liked and now he's just another 6th round bust for TT. Don't trade back for extra picks in the 6th round Ted, you haven't picked a winner since 2010.

Meh. I don't think anyone past R5 you ever expect to be more than a role player. Which is what Goodson was. Cut him now.

This actually could be good. Potential 2016 Dime Secondary:

Outside CB1 - Shields
Outside CB2 - Gunter
Slot CB1 - Randall
Slot CB2 - Rollins
SS - Burnett
FS - HHCD

Backup at all spots - Hyde.

Sure, you need some more depth, but IMO Goodson was useless on D anyway. It was maddening to see him get snaps over Gunter just because he was a draft pick and Gunter wasn't.

Bearmeat, We also have the always underrated (at least on these type of sites) Chris Banjo. He would be a top back-up on most teams at FS. Banjo is a safety only, though, so I agree that some depth at CB would be a good idea.

Why would you place the most inexperienced and slowest DB on the roster as the #2 outside corner position over both Randall (who played the position almost all year) and Rollins (who also took some snaps outside when needed)?

1) I said add CB to the ever growing list, they need more depth, especially when you look at this teams injury history. I said NOTHING about the "Quintet" they do have.

2) Really??? We saw a little of Gunther in the Washington game but outside of that I don't remember seeing him other than the preseason do you? He showed a lot of promise in camp but that was it. So what happens if they have an injury to Shields (Again) or Shields and Randell even for a few games? They'd be FU#%&# because Thompson isn't bringing anyone in other than another UDFA. Now they could land another Shields maybe but probably not. So yes, CB becomes a small need at the end of a big list.

3) So Mr. Negitive, who's ridiculous, AND just curious just WHO would be "Satisfied" with Gunter and Hyde?? Both work in the Packers secondary because they've always had 3 good CB's since those players came in.

4) BTW...This isn't "A Lot of Teams", this is the Green Bay Packers!!

I still can see him trying to play CB in the preseason with teams throwing at him every chance they had. Short, long, didn't matter, he'd get beat.

Whoa, I agree with Cow. I feel dizzy.
Well, I don't agree about the Gunter and Hyde part. But the rest of it, anyways.

Nick, I don't know if there is a stronger stable of CB's from 1-5 in the NFL.

What you been smokin' man?

Seems like we're collecting idiots on our team. Chuck him. We can go 10-6 with or without him. Thanks, Since '61

With the number of players who have gotten dinged for PED use lately, I'm not so sure it's idiots were collecting. I'm starting to wonder if there isn't someone in the training room who is supplying these guys with "supplements".

They signed Lyerla and Grandpa McGinn damn near had an aneurysm. That was like 2 years ago. It's known that it's not at all a thing.

If GB wants an all-pro TE they should sign Colt Lyerla.

Goodson is next to be cut, right behind Palmer (even though Palmer never had a PED problem). Sigh....another draft bust.

I am in the lonely minority - always thought Goodson had potential and thought he was starting to show it last year.

Not lonely, but still minority. I thought I read last year that Joe Witt really liked him and was close to elevating him to start in the final preseason game. Am I misremembering? I was thinking he would make another jump this offseason. We'll see what happens at the end of camp.

Probably the last desperate act of a player disappearing down the depth chart, Sadly there was no performance to enhance, And should be gone by the time the roster gets to 90.

I never understood or liked Goodson as a draft pick. What a waste. He got torched vs. The Panthers and has gotta be on thin ice now. Let Gunter and Robertson Daniel play some more!

Cut Goodson and good UDFA CBs will want to come to Green Bay to compete for one of 53.

Good point, the GOOD UDFA like the Packers because there's a history of success in Green Bay for the UDFA.

Never saw evidence of performance enhancing. Must be mistaken.

Goodson should have shown something by now. This suspension will not help his cause.

You see a lot of these jag taking ped's just to make a roster. They don't have the talent so they would sell their souls. I say cut him.

You're right, it's the schlubs who have the most to gain from PEDs. The thing is, the next Just a Guy is likely to be a PED user too. The competition is greater as you move towards average ability. A guy like Goodson or Jarret Bush has to do more to stand out and make the team. Bush worked out like a madman AND did the drugs. He got a longer than average NFL career out of it, so a lot of guys are going to see that as an example to follow.

Guys with starter talent take PEDs all the time, too.

The #1 reason these guys take banned substances isn't to make up for 'lack of talent'. Its to bounce back from day to day injury and recover from workouts faster.

There's plenty of interviews where guys describe taking PEDs because of the pressure to overcome the dings bruises tears and general grind of the season so they can stay on the field every sunday. They fear not being able to play on Sunday, because if someone else gets the opportunity, they may not get it back

Robertson Daniel has tons of potential. The Packers were extremely lucky that the Raiders let him go. He's a big corner (6' 1" and 210 lb) who can run and jump. Raw, but so were Sam Shields and Truman Williams.

The Packers know what it's like to have poor special teams, and Goodson has helped them to improve in that area. Not likely to be released.
