Love the fact that Welch made it back, but it speaks volumes to what the coaches and other brass around the league sees because no one took him for a second year in a row after cut downs.
I thought Banks did a good job this preseason and he's a big dude, glad to see him back.
Nice to see 3 receivers made it back, I still liked what we saw from Hicks but I'm not broken up about it.
Still need a kick/punt returner so I wouldn't be surprised if Hardman is elevated for games.
It will be interesting to see how many changes they make before Detroit next Sunday.

Every year this seems the case. Fans of every team are sure their castoffs will be immediately picked up, and every year this does not generally happen. Nagler talks a lot about teams liking "their guys", the players they have had in camp. Welch fits this well.
I agree that Hardman will be elevated unless someone steps up big. Is it a weird situation that if he sits a week and they elevate him in week 2 then his vested vet status doesn't hold anymore and they could cut him later at no cost if they wish? Like perhaps after Watson returns.

As I understand it, if he's on the 53 man roster in week one, they are stuck paying him for the entire season.

interesting no King since he had good reviews in camp.

He's signing with the Panthers PS. I liked him. On Andy's show this morning he does a nice segment about Kalen King and explains his thoughts on his cut.

Decent group for the PS. I don't know anything about the two DBs who were signed to the PS. Hopefully we won't need to find out if they can actually contribute in games. There are probably more changes/additions to come between now and the Lions game. We'll see how it all plays out. GPG! Thanks, Since '61

No Clifford or Elgersma. Interesting.
Instead they went with Clayton Tune:
"Over two NFL seasons, Tune has appeared in 13 games with one start. He completed 14 of 23 passes for 70 yards, zero touchdown passes and two interceptions while taking seven sacks during his regular season appearances. As a rookie in 2023, Tune started a Week 9 game against the Cleveland Browns but completed only 11 of 20 passes for 58 yards and two interceptions while taking seven sacks and losing a fumble in a 27-0 loss."
Kind of puzzling.

How does this make us better as compared to the two they let go? I really thought Elgersma showed enough for the PS. Not like I know better, but this pickup seems a bit out of "tune" to me.

how does it make them better? Did you see Clifford play, did Elgersma look like he commanded the field? Neither were good enough. They were evaluated and they moved on.
did you extensively scout Tune? professionals in the personnel dept did - and thus here we are. trust the team, they know more than we do.

Why not move on DeVito. He can at least create plays with his feet and manage a passing game.

And he has a cool nickname.

IMO, he is just not that good. Tune is fast and can run.

He was claimed by the Pats, so we will never know if they tried.

Elgersma was a stiff. Should be headed for the CFL.

You’re not going to find Mahomes on the waiver wire.

In his 3 starts for the Titans, Malik Willis was 25 - 49, for 234 total yards (in 3 games!) 0 tds and 3 int. The team definitely sees something inTune's makeup or arm or something they like, not the stats. Given what happened with Willis, I am willing to give the personnel guys a break and see how it goes.

I think that Andy said in his show this morning that the Packers were wanting to draft Tune, but he was grabbed by the Cards. Seems like guys that we always had our eyes on. Not sure if Malik was the same, but as you say Gute struck gold with that trade.

The Packers know they have a high quality back up and not an urgent need for a 3rd guy. But, since Willis will likely be gone next year, they may need to use a day 2 pick on a QB, or hope a semi-decent free agent veteran becomes available for next year. They've seen Clifford and Elgersma and obviously weren't impressed, but Tune doesn't sound real promising either.

I have seen Tune play and he is an upgrade over both the previous guys.

I'm glad the Sean Clifford experiment is over.
This is a futures move. Willis is likely going elsewhere next season. Neither Clifford nor the Canadian Cannon offered enough upside to be the back up.
Tune appears to have some instincts and ability but we will see. The Packers liked him before his draft. We'll see if the coaches can bring him along.

More ready than Elgersma and significantly more mobile. More physically talented than Clifford on the ground and in the air. He won the back up job last year and this year they brought in a veteran. He’s not the athlete on the ground that Willis is, but he’s a good enough one to count him a genuinely mobile QB and he proved it in college despite being a pocket first player. He does go through reads and progressions and has a good arm.
He’s a guy I think that, like Willis, needed time to let the pro game slow down. He was patently not ready as a rookie in 2023 when forced into starting a game as a rookie—another thing he and Willis share. If the game has slowed for him as it had with a Willis, he’s credibly a genuine back up next year and emergency option this, which Elgersma wasn’t.
He may be the guy who, being picked, led them to reach and take Clifford ten spots later in that draft. It seems they just upgraded to the pick they wanted then. That predated Elgersma, whom I thought looked worth developing, but it’s fair to say was not to the point where we’d likely have used him at all this year and would have signed a journeyman if needed. I believe that is probably the difference.

Wild, no
Cornelius Johnson
Julian Hicks
Kalen King, or
Corey Ballentine
Are they rising players with a low ceiling, already topping out, or just need a little seasoning?
Not always possible to read the tea leaves re rising or falling guys based on what we see in camp or preseason. .. Will Sheppard was obviously put on the field first, and the first 3 WRs they sign onto the practice squad are Sheppard, Neyor, and Hardman, and Jaylen Simpson the DB. Have they just had enough of the other 4 guys? Anybody have any insight?

The guys who made the P Squad are better players. Stashing Hardman was a good move. They could still move on a CB if the right deal shows up. They still need a playmaker. Bullard is not a cover guy.

I beleive they retained Sheppard as a possible kick returner? As he did that in preseason . He could also grow into a good wr

I like the list except for the absence of Johnson and King.
I also like jannisbjornson’s idea of picking up Devito.
I would have signed Wentz before DeVito, but now he’s a Viking.
Go Packers!!!

You would cut Willis to have Wentz or DeVito? Neither would be signing to be on the PS in Green Bay. I am find with the QB room. They have a capable back up and a live arm on the PS in Tune.
