Packers activating Rashan Gary off PUP

Gary has been working back from an ACL injury suffered during last season's game in Detroit.

Good news on the Rashan Gary front:

Gary started nine contests before a knee injury ended his 2022 season, finishing with six sacks (No. 2 on the team), 32 tackles (21 solo), 12 QB hits (No. 3 on the team) and seven tackles for a loss (tied for No. 2 on the team).

The fact the team feels comfortable enough to take him off the PUP list this early in camp tells you they're very confident in the recovery since once he practices he can not go back on the PUP.

I wouldn't expect Gary to participate in team drills for another week or so but this is incredibly encouraging.

Gary is set to play this season on his fifth-year option. He tallied six sacks in nine games last year. If he picks up where he left off, he could be looking at a monster contract extension later this year. I'd suspect the Packers will see how he looks throughout the rest of the summer and if they like what they see, they'll try to sign him to an extension prior to the season.

About as good news as one get as a Packer fan, along with saying good bye to Rodgers and his BS drama.

Great news, now let’s remember that his injury usually means it will still take time to get back to where he was before it. Give the guy a chance.

Let’s hope the new depth means we can ease him in when he’s ready and use him to allow for the fact that he may not immediately be as sudden.

In other news, we also get to see DuBose.

So sorry you feel so awful about the last guy to QB the team to a Lombardi, the most recent Hall of Fame-worthy talent.

No wonder Rodgers feels better as a Jet. He actually feels appreciated. I hope he gets another ring. Packer fans certainly don't deserve one.

Do you need to change your tag, based on that it seems so? The test of what Rodgers feels about NY is yet to come. He will earn it soon, one way or the other.

I'm a Packer fan; I'm not a fan of the way the front office handled the last few years of Rodgers' career. They left him with very little receiving talent at WR other than Adams, no investment in the TE position other than an UDFA or two and an aging vet and a FB. Then he was supposed to bail out the entire team, despite the level of talent and a lack of any kind of improvement from the defense. He didn't like the way the front office treated guys like Jordy and Cobb, and I can't say he was wrong. I know there comes a time when you gotta move on, but they handled several of these situations in ways that left the player not feeling good at all about GB. That's not a great trend. A better GM would have found a way not to sour the relationship with one of the best players that ever played for the team.

So yeah, maybe GB will be exciting this year and I will cheer for them. But I would love #12 to get a ring with the Jets and add to his legacy. He was clear about his love for the team, the fans, and the city on his way out the door. And he was the best QB I've ever watched play and I've been watching since #15 was behind center.

Exactly I am a fan of the Packers and not just Rodgers and the way he acted it was all about him. He got rid of McCarthy, threw games away with his poor choices, refused to work with new faces by coming in early. Rodgers was not a Packer of reliability, he wanted to be him and pat his numbers. Being a Packer is being a team player, which I believe he wasn't for a few years toward his end of his tenure here. I have been a Packer fan since 1958 and Packers have been many, not many had the rotten attitude put on display by Rodgers in games, eye rolling, throwing arms up the air when others made errors, ever see him do it when he fouled up? Oh well that is my take, glad he is gone and if we are bad or mediocre for a while seen it before in 70'sand 80's! It is a team game not a one man show!

Another reply . . . why do fans have to hate of Rodgers with posts on articles that have nothing to do with Rodgers? I just hope these same fans aren't missing him a few months down the line.

What have the Pats done since Brady left?
What have the Steelers done since Ben left?
What have the Giants done since E. Manning left?
What have the Saints done since Brees left?

That's what I'm concerned about. Those teams have all nose-dived and mainly don't even make the playoffs.

I think there's many off us here that feel that way to some extent. I've said it more than ode, I APPRECIATED everything Rodgers did as a QB of the GB Packers. The guy was/is great.

But the drama that was happening at 1265 Lombardi really put a damper on what he did on the field, ESPECIALLY last season. Packers fans ALWAYS deserve another SB, we're the greatest fans in the sport. But we also know an asshole and Rodgers IS an asshole WCPB...

Oh, and those Jets fans that "appreciate" Rodgers? Lets see how much they love him after those first games against Buffalo, Dallas, NE, KC, Denver, & Philly... They do play Buffalo, KC, and Philly at home so we'll see.

Huge news. This accelerates the expected schedule to play meaningful reps to before week 6, right?

**Edit** - not necessarily.

Remarkable, and a testament to the incredible dedication behind Rashan Gary, the man.

We've known players who have been quick healers in an uncanny fashion over the decades, but this is an incredible timetable for return. Especially with a medical staff as conservative as that of the Green Bay Packers.

Gary underwent surgical repairs for his torn ACL less than 9 months ago.

I tought he would hold himself out until training camp was over. Just like he refused to play at Michigan after he was cleared by doctors stating " I will decide when my body is ready to play". Character wise never liked the guy. He is like Perry all about the benjamins. This is his last year he will not sign and extension and will be leaving the team for MO MONEY.

fubared, maybe RGary will "leave for mo money" but his character has been nothing but impeccable since arriving in GB.
I think it's totally foolish to judge his character based on the actions of a teenager based on reporting out of the internet.
None of us know what happened while he was at Michigan.
I do know that he played for a "me-first" HC who likely would have thrown RG's future to the wolves if it helped JH add more $'s to his maize/blue pile.
I hope he heals fully and quickly and reaps the rewards for his hard work, talent and commitment.
I hope that happens in GB.
GPG!

The guy had ACL surgery 9 months ago for Christ’s sake! If the guy had questionable work ethic he would be no where near this stage of recovery. Sorry but this take is idiotic.

There are a lot of things one can debate about Gary, but one thing no one who has ever known and spoken of him denies is that he’s a non stop worker in the gym. The idea that he has a questionable work rate is one that can’t be said without complete ignorance or lying.

What you are saying about his character is based on what? It is the opposite of what his coaches at Michigan had to say about him. It is the opposite of what he has shown since entering the league. Everyone has remarked about his strong work ethic. You're just making crap up for your own enjoyment. All Gary has done is rise steadily from being a rookie learning a new role to a difference-maker on the field.

In 2002 before getting hurt in the 9th game, Gary had made six sacks and 11 quarterback hits in the opening eight games of the year. At that rate, he would have been 8th in the league in sacks alone, not to mention the disruption on so many plays, that force errant throws, and turnovers.

He's had a great attitude, worked hard, and produced. What else do you expect ?

Slow it down, Leatherhead.

Taking Gary off the PUP list only means the Packers believe he is worth a roster spot at the beginning of the season and believe he will be ready to at least PRACTICE with the team before week 6.

If he starts the season on PUP, Gary by rule would not be able to even practice with the team before week 6, and while he wouldn't count against the roster, he certainly wouldn't be ready to play by week 7.

If the packers feel like Gary is going to be able to practice before week 6, they may just feel that the value of having Gary practicing and getting ready to play by the 2nd Q of the season may be more valuable than the roster spot.

Didn't he also have at least one more sack eliminated by defensive holding penalty/s too?

He should want money. He's earned it. He's worked hard and produced in the NFL and should get paid for that. He has rare talent and he's only 25 years old; won't be 26 until December. If he comes back healthy, he's a wrecking crew and Preston Smith is 32. They absolutely should pay Gary what he's worth.

With Preston on one side, and if LVN can show ANYTHING on the other, 52 should be able to ease in nicely. (Like me into a lukewarm bathtub.)

Should have a very solid rotation of OLB with Smith, Enagbare, Hollins, Gary, and LVN. All of these guys can play meaningful snaps.

This is great news!!! I just hope that the Packers don't rush him back too soon. As I've posted earlier I'm fine if he is out until the bye week. Let him return only when he is 100% recovered. It's not necessary to bring him back at 70 or 80 or even 90%. Let him fully recover and then let him loose on the league.
Thanks, Since '61

I think that's pretty much the Packers MO. They don't take chances with any player, even if he wants to play and thinks he's ready.

The only times I can think they pushed the envelope, was with a certain thumb last season and times when Favre had to continue his streak. He had to have been hurt some of those times when he got hooked on pain killers.

I took a lot of heat here for predicting Gary would be back for opening day. Gary isnt built like most people. Hes a freak of nature with an inexhaustible work ethic. Never bet against guys like that. Now its time to pay the man. #52 is a cornerstone of this franchise.
