I've always thought this blog and others were pretty balanced. Pointing out the positives and criticizing when/where necessary.

So, why is the sky always falling at Tundra Vision? Does Angeli have a perpetual storm cloud overhead?

Look forward to the weeks developments from both Packers and Vikings camps.

Although on most games this would go relatively unnoticed amid all of the other terrible things that happen in the game, I would have called Donald Lee and Mason Crosby out for "bad" games.

Crosby obviously knocked two out of bounds and missed a field goal. Donald Lee had consecutive negative plays - a penalty and a dropped pass, but made up for it with a nice catch.

Compared to everything else that happened in the game, these would be our two "bad" players, however like I said, these would ordinarily not be noticed, especially given the game situations in which they occurred.

Aaron my man,

Since you watch film more relentlessly than most, have a quick question. The one lay on the goal-line where Aj hawk made a nice tackle. I thought (i have no tivo or dvr, so maybe I had lyin eyes), BJ Raji did a nice job blowing up his man and disrupting the play. Is that accurate?

Also, with every game Aaron Rodgers and Charles Woodson and Donald Driver make me happier and happier that they are on our team. It is great to cheer for them as they are talented and hard-working. Nothing better than this!!

@Matthew, I noticed Raji blew up a short yardage play, I dont recall if it was goalline or a 4th down. Could have been both, and it was good to see.
-
Question I have, if a kickoff hits the pylon, shouldnt that be a touchback, because it clearly hit the pylon first. Its part of the EZ when a ballcarrier hits it. MM should have challenged that first play.
-
The challenge on the 4th down spot was like slapping the ref in the face for not calling hands to the face...IDK if they got the message.
-
Also noticed the TD with just under 2 minutes, Mangini would have challenged and the officials didnt bother.
-
Another poorly officiated game, they should go in the ugly.

This is the week we all been waiting for. I hope the stuff starts flying early because the hits will be hard this coming Sunday. I hope both teams lay it all out there. Give it all they have and smash each other to pieces. This is what football is all about not super bowls or titles from ancient times. It's about two hated rivals killing each other on the field so we couch potatoes can watch. Go Vikings.

bomdad - I'm not 100% sure with how the rule is applied, but I'll take a random stab and hopefully not fill you with too much misinformation.

What I do know: When a punt goes out of bounds, it is marked where it goes out, not where it his the ground.

What I don't know: Where the ball hit the pylon.

If the ball hit the pylon on the front side, you could make the assumption that the ball was already technically out of bounce before it hit the pylon.

Again, this is my best guess. I don't have the rules in front of me or anything, and I could very well be wrong.

todd, this is not the week we've all been waiting for. this is the week you've been waiting for, brent's been waiting for, and lots of purple-clad blowhards have been waiting for.

football IS about superbowls for packer fans. it always has been, and it always will be. no player is bigger than the team, no game is bigger than a championship. that isn't just talk in our town. it's backed up by guys like driver, woodson, jennings, etc.

if i didn't have so much distaste for the vikings organization, i really would feel a little bit sorry for their fans. they have to cheer for guys like jared allen. playing well with a team of scumbags doesn't really mean much unless you win it all, and then i think even i would be forced to cheer for said scumbags if they were my team. but the vikings have never won it all, and are thus more pitiful and loathsome. a history of scumbags who play in a dome and always collapse when it matters most.

with 51 pass attempts yesterday in a close game, it's clear that chilly will wear out brent's arm long before we all expected, even with the best running back i've ever seen perfectly healthy and running over defenders (that was an amazing run-over of gay, i have to admit).

yes, this will be a highly charged game. yes, it will feel great to whoever wins.
but no, the feeling of revenge or vindication or whatever won't mean a thing in february if my team doesn't win another superbowl. it's a matter of differing perspective, and of differing expectations.

Aaron, if you're gonna put Havner in place of Hawk or Barnett for him not having the chance to be in there much, you gotta put the OL in there! 0 sacks and 4.9 YPC is pretty good, IMO!

Todd got his tears out last night, and came back biting his lip this morning, pretending he's a grown-up. How cute.

Also, how about Barnett? He's showing flashes of being back to 2007 Nick. I've never really understood all of the vitriol for a guy who had over 130 tackles in his last full season, but I'm thinking he's almost 100%. It's now been almost a full year since his blow-out, and you can tell he's starting to trust his knee/instincts a lot more. I mean come on, the guy was robbed of a Pro Bowl spot in 2007, had over 100 SOLO tackles, and had 3.5 sacks and 2 picks that season. Yesterday he had 6 tackles, all of them SOLO, one of which was for a loss, and nearly had a pick. He might not be Patrick Willis, but he's a damn good LB to have on your team. People have forgotten that.

joshywoshybigfatposhy - your comments are ridiculous. Does this mean you only watch the Packers if they’re winning? Out of 32 teams in the NFL only one team wins the big game. Does that mean the majority of the other team fans stop watching football midway through the season? I don’t believe so you make it sound like the Packers win the super bowl every other year. I know deep down you want the Packers to win this very important game but just ashamed of admitting it. And another thing Brett Favre threw 51 passes but the majority of those passes were less than 10 yards. Adrian does need more reps but that said if Brett is picking apart the pass coverage they will throw the ball every down. You said it’s about the team well the team was moving the ball. The Vikings don’t need Adrian to move the ball just for the sake of film footage. Do what is working is the Viking’s philosophy.

re: hitting the pylon. It is only considered part of the endzone when hit by a ballcarrier. If the ball itself hits the pylon, it is out of bounds and hence a penalty.

Jared Allen happens to be one of the good guys in the league. The man brings it to the table on every down. Plays for the team and makes a good role model for future players. I sense too much jealousy in this forum. Every one of you is hoping Brett Favre's arm fails because you all know if it doesn't this team could go far. I'm not preaching a Super Bowl because I don't even know what that is. No matter what happens this year. I thank the packer’s organization for releasing Brett to the Vikings. Thanks for the memories.

Todd, we now have a more consistent, younger QB where we used to have a black hole who refused responsibility for losses. Thank YOU GUYS for signing him to continue the long legacy of Jokes dressed in Purple.

Oh, and Jared Allen is a good guy? I'll be sure that the next time I'm drunk, I hop in a car and drive, since that's what "good guys" do.

The Jets released Favre after he retired the second time, not the Packers. The damage has already been done to the Vikes organization. They've won enough to get Chili contract talks started, more seasons of mediocre coaching. They're starting to abandon the running game, no clock eating ball control offense at the end of games. QB prospects have been alienated or cut, leaving all hopes on a 40 year old who has faded late in the season.

I stand corrected: McCarthy on opening kickoff: Official right on it. Said ball hit turf first, and he was decisive with call. Explanation was ball hit turf and then pylon.

The Jets released Favre but the Packers did everything possible to avoid having to play against him. Packers should have invited him back from retirement on one condition if he could pass a physical. The physical would have proved to Brett that he needed surgery on his arm before tempting to play again. The packers would have saved face with Brett. Too bad the origination doesn't know how to handle delicate situations. Remember Holmgren. Ouch..

Aaron - your telling me that Holmgren left because of health issues or because he wanted to be GM for Seattle. Because both are not even close to the truth. He gave up being GM in 2002. Three years later. He experience a lot tougher times in Seattle so couldn't be the health. The man wanted out of Packer nation. Can't blame the man Who won't.

Per P. King

" I think Favre believes he'll have more than a few supporters in the stands. But a longtime Green Bay resident told me recently what he thinks, from talking to the townies, that the crowd will be almost entirely anti-Favre, and the sentiment will be loud. "

The goal is to boo him into using timeouts because signals cannot be heard.......... Welcome home, Brent.

Todd - Holmgren left because he wanted total control, which was never going to happen in GB with Ron Wolf around, and because Paul Allen offered him a bazillion dollars. Plus, he very much wanted to get back to the West Coast, where he is from. He's never said anything other than the most complimentary things about the Green Bay organization and the town.

you know, i think i'm going to have to take the 'mosquito-in-the-tent' stance regarding the recent and unfortunate influx of idiocy from across the border.

this blog has been a respite from all the pissing-contest football website comment sections out there, and i'd like it to stay that way. todd and his ilk have nothing (so far) to offer but buzzing and crude middle-school jokes. the guy thinks jared allen -- a notorious dirty player, drunk-driving, racist, 27-year-old who giggles that his jersey number is 69 -- is a role-model for christ's sake.

so even though it's fun sometimes to fight back, really, it's just a waste of time, and it distracts us all from why we're spending our workdays here - to engage in a lively and informed discussion about the green bay packers.

so when the mosquitos start that annoying, high-pitched buzzing in my tent when i'm trying to fall asleep - i'm just going to ignore them and rest easy, knowing that when i wake up, i'll be just fine, and they're all still just tiny little purple bloodsuckers with no trophies.

IMO With the exception of penalties the Packers looked great the last two weeks.
Many Vikings backers on this site. They point out that Cleveland and the Lions are meaningless teams and spit their venom. Any football fan knows that regardless of record no team should be taken for granted. If the two teams the Packers played are so bad then why did Minnesota give up 533 yards in offense and 33 points to the same two teams that the Packers gave up 288 total yards and 3 points? That said, the overall focus is on this week's game.
Rodgers has a rating of 110.8 and Brett Favre is playing great with a 102.2. Minnesota's defense is 17th in yds and 17th in points given up while Green Bay's defense is 3rd in yardage and 6th in points per game. Minnesota's offense is 3rd in points and 12th in yardage per game while Green Bay's is 9th and 8th.

so whats toad have to say about that??

Well, since we are all bashing Minnesotans, let me just set the record straight from this border fan. Yes, there are alot of pack fans over here too, so please dont confuse us with Todd and others.

Let me first say, that this whole Brett Favre trashing is getting a little old. Im just as pissed off to see him in a purple jersey as you all, but for gods sake, he isn't the horrible person you all make him out to be. So what if it is revenge? Human nature, and I don't really feel the hatred like you all feel. I do, OTOH, feel sick to my stomach to know that he will forever go down as a Viking, when he was such a staple for the Packers organization. I am saddened to think that he wont be loved after his playing days are over. He doesn't hate you fan's, to think so is ridiculous, but he does obviously have something against TT and company, which is understandable. How do you think Unitas,Montana, and Broadway Joe felt when they were pushed out from their organizations.

To Todd, Jared Allen is one hell of an athlete, but he is NOT a rolemodel. Give me a break. Donald Driver is a role model, with a charity in his name, actively helping out in the community. Charles Woodson and Al Harris are role models, hard working players that aren't ever in the media for problems with the law. I could name plenty more, but to seriously think that Jared is a good guy is a bit puzzling.

One last tid-bit about Favre, you all know he has some great friends on this current team that love him as they always have, a guy named Driver comes to mind. I think if even his own former teamates don't hate him, why would you all? Like I stated earlier, I hate the purple just like you all, and I hate what transpired as well, but to hate a guy like him who always had fun and gave 15 plus years of memories. Dont let that go away, he will always be remembered as a Packer anyway.

I thought Lang definitely was definitely "good." Grant, Wells and Hawk didn't look too bad either.
Tramone needs to calm down and take the punt returns straight up the field. He'll break some, but not by dancing around like Walter Stanley.
