"Ugly: The offense"

Specifically the 3rd and short offense. WhyTF is it so hard to get one yard? And someone else mentioned how many of our drives depend on penalty, whether it be 12 men on the field or PI, to keep them going.

It seems like every game we bog down and punt four or five series in a row. We've had a lot more injuries on the o-line, but by in large it's still intact. The only big difference from last years high powered unit is Jordy.

Jordy = Packers MVP

For once, you got it pretty good, never right AN. You might want to check the PFF scores that show additional big performances from LT David Bakhtiari (+4.3), S Morgan Burnett (+2.8), CB Quinten Rollins (+2.6), LG Josh Sitton (+2.2), and DE Mike Daniels (+2.0. WR Jones had a great gamer game, and u can probably say those two interference calls were pretty tacky calls. We have seen worse go uncalled. HC McCarthy was right to be upset about the voided touchdown call. That was pretty tacky.

In the end, it's all about the W column. This isn't hockey or soccer where the standings have more columns than common sense would dictate. There isn't an "Ugly W" column, and at the end, there isn't a playoff tie-breaker based on "games they 'deserved' to win".

I understand the frustration some people have with this team. This is a deeply flawed team that desperately needs to put some pieces together to make any kind of post-season run. Are they currently less than the sum of their parts? Perhaps. But, when it's all said and done, you can't get into the dance unless you've got a ticket, and the Packers have punched theirs.

All we can do is let the chips fall...

The only times we have had good offense is when we are behind and Aaron is throwing the ball deep. That opens up the field for short passes and runs.

Good:
-Packers winning 10th game this year in bad weather.
-Earning a 7th straight trip to the play offs.
-4th Quarter Packers. Let this sink in. Packers have outscored opponents 110 - 48 in the 4th quarter for the year. They have only been outscored in the 4th quarter in 1 game this year. Amazing...

Bad:
-Sloppy football that was played throughout the game.
-To many dropped passes.
-Run game.

Ugly:
-Packer fans can't even enjoy a Packers victory anymore.

Personally I always from day one envisioned Mathews as a perfect fit for the middle aka Urlacher. Same body, size speed. Capers is to blame for using him as a pass rusher but Ted refuses to draft DE's because they command big money and he doesn't want to pony up to the bar.
Thusm Capers has so screwed with Mathews that I don't think he even knows where to and how to play anymore. Sad really. What a waste of talent by bad coaching. Just like this team is going to prove that Davante can play over Abby, that Lacy is the guy and Starks and after thought, the Neal and Daniels are the strenght and Pennel just a fill in guy.
This whole coaching is around the draft rankings. Got to prove all the time Ted got it right. No matter what.

Mathews has always been better on the outside because he doesn't read or fill holes quickly. If he is in a blitz he looks good but at an inside linebacker he misreads the holes to fill.

I would possibly add Clay there, if he wasn't held as much as he is. When I see our OL getting holding penalty's for the stuff they get called for, Clay should receive the same benefit.

He is a guy that could probably draw a holding penalty almost every play of the game. I saw numerous times he was being held, and saw no flags.

BAD - MM's press conference after the game.

This is a big reason I am not a big fan. Winning 10 games for this team is nothing to be happy about. If we don't get to a SB, it's a bad season. At least that's where we ended off last year. Here we go again with everyone else seeing the obvious and he seems to be 'happy'. I hope in private he is planning something to get AR and receivers in sync but I don't want to hear that we should be happy. That lowers the bar. If the Bears won 10 games, they should be happy. But not THIS Packer team!

Super Bowl appearances? Really? Mike McCarthy and Ted Thompson with Favre and Rodgers have won exactly as many Super Bowls since 2006 as Belichick with Brady. In the end, that's all that matters. Appearances without victories result in a participant ribbon.

No one flaunts their display case of Halas/Hunt trophies. Well... maybe the Vikings.

Your talking a GM who picked up Davante Adams a guy the pre draft analyst said caught a lot of balls - 5 yard passes in a spread offense and would not translate to the nfl well but Ted Picked him.

A guy who was rated a third rounder at best named Datone Jones but Ted took him as a one and he has been mostly non noticable for three plus years.....

A guy who was rated a second round pick and stood out only because he played on a top college D line and made him look better than his talent showed, one Nick Perry.......

a guy who is too slow and to much of an oath to really play tight end one R Rogers.......

a wasted two pick on Jerrel Worthy who analyst said went missing in games and he went missing for three years in GB......

a raft of those so called genius late round picks that didnt pan out but spend two years playing for the pack and not playing well starting with Bishop, Ross, Zombo, the list is endless.....

When the Packers left Foxboro 8-6 in December, 2010 I remember telling myself that that edition of the Packers didn't have what it took to win 6 straight games and bring home the trophy. I was wrong then.

They are cliches, but they still apply: "It's a week-to-week league", "matchups are everything", "any given Sunday". The Packers are winning enough matchups to win games.

The Cardinals were beatable v. Minnesota. MM's team is getting it done at crunch time. If they can keep it close through 3 quarters, AR has what it takes to get it done.

Carolina, Seattle and even NE have better WR's. Rodgers is off this year but the real problem is so apparent to me now. He has noone with any speed to throw to. Noone that can not be easily covered one on one. Wish this was not the case but it's reality.

U: The WRs and TEs . Worst pass catching unit in GB since the days of Ruvell Matin and Bill Schroeder

The Good:
Janus return. The guy has found a spot in this guys heart.
Abby. Why he doesn't get more opportunities is a puzzle.
Jones.y should be put in jail for stickum...oh that's banned I forgot...the guy catches passes like fly paper catches flies ... the catch on the sideline on his knees is nothing that you can teach someone. What a free agent pickup!!!!!
Randall.... yeah I know was charred more than burnt BBQ Ribs more than 3 times against Cooper...but he was on him like a glove all day..those passes and catches were pretty awesome and Cooper is an awesome receiver.
The bend but don't break D. How much more can you ask a team to stop the opponents from 7 when they are inside the 10?

The Bad:
The fricken announcers who didn't have a clue about the Green Bay Packers. I couldn't even repeat the name he called Abby....and as far as calling Bulaga a whale name was hilarious....and oh yeah...let's not forget dissing Randall as a rookie...Christ the guy has been covering as well as Shields and should make the All Rookie Team!

The brick hands of Coooop! Loved his run but he has got to get his hands out of the motor.

More Bad.... hate to dis one of my favorites...but Mathews was anticipating himself right out of the play...it was embarrassing for him to get stiffed armed by Carr after he missed the original sack opp.

More Bad... the Pack could have used a road grader but they still wouldn't be able to pick up a 3rd an one.

The Ugly:
The win...yeah yeah yeah... I know.... a win is a win..maybe so...but our guys just can't put together
a whole game.... complete frustration to see Rodgers pulling a Cutler... this isn't the 3rd game it was the 15th...for him to pull a Jay Play was not defensible...it's not like he was getting rushed..... or the Pack getting a blocked field goal... cmn..really? Deja vu Detroit.

Fortunately there was more Good than Bad... or we would be for sure playing the ViQueens for the North Div title....something that I really don't wish....

I really don't get some of the things the coaches do with their players.

Abbrederis clearly has earned more playing time. He deserves a lot more playing time, and needs to be a bigger part of the offense.

I still don't get how they are trying to use Richard Rodgers. His best game was against the Lions. They used him inline tight to the line and had him going over the middle like a traditional TE. Since then, they have spread him out wide, and have not used him the same way they did when he had his most success against the Lions.

Crockett? He comes in lights a spark in the offense in the Lions game and since then hasn't even been activated. The offense could really use some much needed juice in the offense. Crockett seems to provide that.

Why doesn't Elliott play more?

I just don't get some of the coaches decisions on how they use their players or don't use their players.

Worse than ugly.

Janis. Failed to even TRY to help his QB on the INT. The least he could do is try to make a play/catch, instead he watched like a fan in the stands. How about trying to break up the INT and earn some bonus pts from his QB?

Add in a drop for a possible TD, a plethora of drops in practice from what I hear, no clue how to run routes.

Good thing he's a good gunner on PR or he wouldn't be on the team.

Ed... Really???....the only time I saw a pro player give a gimme...was when Favre walked into the waiting arms of Strahan for the the all time sack title. It was...well...crappy...crappy for Strahan who didn't need anyone to give him a sack..he would have earned it ....and would have had something for his grandkids (and Kelly :+) ) to relish for years to come if he would have got it the way he should have.

Now I am not particularly an A Rod fan...yes, he is a great QB...but I'm just no into his personality...but I tell you one thing...he is a competitor... and as such he would have NEVER given a gimme to Woodson or anyone else...now I am JUST SAYING!!!! :9)

The NFL is a strange league. GB continues to win double digit games basically every year even when there not playing up to there potential. There is too many dumpster fire teams in the NFL that I think we don't realize how spoiled we are as Packer fans.

It seems like Green Bay has played the most "poor" weather games out of any team this year.

The lack of speed at WR and no big threat at TE is evident for this offence. It was nice to see the back shoulder throw finally make an appearance, I always thought that was one of the biggest reasons teams had to respect the GB passing game in years past. It really kept drives alive for this team as well.

Redzone and short yardage continue to be an issue, very predictable I think everyone watching the game can figure out what is going to happen.

Both of those were Offensive pass interference. Arm was extended creating separation. And I am the biggest homer ever!! Needs better disguise like M Irvin used to do.

I did see a couple holds that weren't called, but the results of the plays were sacks. They may have thrown the flag late had a sack not occured. Thought it was officiated pretty good.

We have a lot more problems than bad officiating and I think it will all be on display next week. Fingers crossed... maybe not. Good thing the game virtually does not matter. Unless pack wins wk 17 and Arizona loses wk 17.

Every offensive play? Packer goggles on?

You are allowed to grab the jersey as long as hands stay inside and you don't impede the defender from going in another direction other than toward the OLman.

I was watching a stream, so maybe the quality caused me to miss all of these holds.

Very happy with the win. Not the prettiest, but I'm not expecting blow outs like last year.

What disappointed me the most was the lack of a running game. Last week we were all excited about how we pounded the ball down the Cowboys throats, then Starks and Lacy have a stinker.

It was raining vs. Dallas too, so it can't be blamed on the weather. I did not see the game since it was not broadcast here, so can anyone shed some light on the poor running game?

From what I saw, the Raiders were packing everyone in the box. They defended the inside run game very well. They dropped 8 down into the box a quite a few times.

They bottled up Lacy really well.
They brought in Starks and he was starting to move the ball more, but then he fumbled the ball. So he sat on the bench for most of the game.

In this game, they could have used a guy like Crockett as a change of pace especially after Starks coughed up the ball. They tried using Cobb as their change of pace back, and it worked a little, but he isn't a guy that can run that much.

The Packers have activated TE Andrew Quarless off the temporary IR list and placed WR Ty Montgomery on season-ending IR, per a source.

In theory yes. But Ty had only played in 3 games offensively. He had a lot to learn. And he wasn't an outside WR, which is what the O really needs.

The offense needed a playmaker...a spark. Outside WR would be great, but anything that gets opposing defenses second-guessing what they're doing would help.

It hurts. He was already our 2nd or 3rd best WR. I would argue that he was our 3rd best behind Nelson, and Cobb.

He was just getting going with Rodgers when he got hurt. Our offense hasn't been the same since.

The part that hurt the most was his versatility. He was able to play everywhere.

Hopefully he can get fully healed up and come back even stronger next year. Next year getting Nelson, Montgomery back will provide a major boost to our passing game.

@Bear

Remember that play he dropped a sure TD against the 49ers on the first play of the game? He was an outside WR on that play.

I agree that he still has a lot to learn. I also think the Pack gave him a lot this year.

The Good: OL especially Bulaga, Damarius Randall, Cobb, J. Jones.
The Bad: Starks fumble, D. Adams, J. Ryan, Lacy
The Ugly: Officiating, Red Zone offense

We're in the playoffs for the 7th straight season.
For those complaining about the offense we have won 4 of our last 5 games scoring 30, 27, 28 and 30 points in the 4 victories with 3 of the 4 victories on the road. With the way our defense is playing if our offense can score 27 - 30 points per game in the playoffs we'll be fine. Go Pack Go! Thanks, Since '61

For those comparing this year to 2010, in 2010 the Packers were 2nd in profootballreference SRS and 3rd in Footballoutsiders' DVOA. So far this year, the Packers are 8th in SRS and 9th in DVOA. The 2010 defense was better than this year's.

http://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/gnb/#team_index::27

Descending order of Packer DSRS (defensive SRS's). Anyone notice a trend? This year's defense, given the offense, isn't likely championship caliber. MAYBE the Packers will stack up turnover margin in the playoffs and make a run for it, but I'm not buying any green banana's over the prospect.

I had the Packers, after Nelson got hurt but Jones being re-signed, as a 10-6 team, but I thought their schedule was going to be harder than it turned out to be. So didn't have grand expectations, particularly Super Bowl aspirations, but if the Packers do end up 10-6, it will still be underwhelming as the only really good teams they'll have played are the Panthers and the Cardinals. I expected losses to teams that I thought would be good, but we lost to them despite they being poor to bad. A hail mary away from being swept by the Lions with a coach with griddle marks on his butt?

Oh well, when looking back on this year in the future, it will stack up like a 1998 or 2003 season on paper.

I think part of our (as in GB fans) problem is that the expectation level is so high. We're so spoiled, we expect perfection every week. Well, just be glad we're not Lions or Bears fans. NOW, you got something to crab about. Will we go deep in the playoffs? Maybe, maybe not, but at least we're in the conversation.

Whether we want to admit it or not, I think the way we came so close last year ,the way we lost, made us blindly determined to want to make up for it THIS year. Losing Jordy and then the way the season has gone has us all pissed off and crabby.

Man, I feel for Rodgers on these types of plays. He isn't playing like the Rodgers we all know, but when things go right for him it seems like a WR (mainly Adams) lets him down. Wow. Just imagine what that would've done for the Offense's morale and Adams' psyche.

Great read by Rollins. I don't know how/why he didn't come down with that INT. Plays like that must be made late into the season and definitely in the Playoffs. No more "almost" plays. Hayward better watch out.

I gave the quarter, time and down up top.

The Raiders ran two streaks on the right side and Rollins read it from the snap. He cheated and read the QB all the way through.

He's going to be a real playmaker. He just needs to FINISH.

Proof Lacy wasn't running hard and or finishing plays. That's probably why we went a long stretch without seeing him.

Forutunately the PI gave us the first, but that should have been a TD. Bad underthrown pass by Rodgers.

Adams drops a TD pass. "If you can touch it - you can catch it." Boy does he owe us a huge Playoff game - maybe even 2.

Should have been 6 for Lacy. I think he was upset with himself or Bahk at the end of the play because there was a cut back lane that would have allowed him to walk into the end zone.

Again, I feel for Rodgers on these types of plays. He isn't playing like the Rodgers we all know, but when things go right for him it seems like a WR let's him down. This time it was Janis. Pass could've have been a bit lower, but still..."if you can touch it - you can catch it."

That pass I'm more willing to excuse then the Adams drop. Rodgers put some juice on that throw and it was high. In the rain, that ball is going to be very tough to catch.

Adams catch was more of a floater type of pass, which he should have been able to get.

Agree on throw. Very difficult in rain.

True. I agree it was tough, but still - coaches don't want to hear that lol.

I feel Janis has to do just about everything right for Rodgers in order for Janis to continue to get looks. He's already losing snaps to Abby. Gotta make the most of his limited chances.

Nice zone coverage and play by Burnett. Another should be pick. What's that 4 picks total the Defense should've finished the game with? HAVE to come down with those.

Raiders went on to score a TD...

Ugly: Rhonde Barber and whoever the other announcer was. That was just a horrible, horrible game to listen to. Names wrong left and write. Cliches mangled. I mean really, if you have to spew cliches, at least get them right.
