Oh No He Di\'nt!
By PackerAaron
Things get juicer in the great Shakespearean drama of our day.
Apparently, Favre sent Thompson a text message this past Saturday, according to WTMJ in Milwaukee. And Thompson straight-up dissed him, telling his (for now) former Hall of Fame QB that he was on vacation and that the two would have to speak at a later date.
Obviously Favre's family, perhaps his brother, is the source of the report. (He gave an interview regarding Favre's comeback chances to the same station last week). How else does a television station know what Favre is texting to people? (Unless, of course, the government is interested...) Obviously, the whole 'clingy teenage girl' thing fits even more now that Favre won't stop texting people, whether it be a General Manager of an NFL team or a reporter for a small southern paper. Someone tell him that texting is for girls, be a man, pick up the phone and call somebody.
And what about Thompson? What is his freekin' problem? You don't have 10 minutes, hell, a half an hour, to speak to the player most responsible for you getting a nice, big fat contract extension? You'll have to "speak to him later"? Really? Ted, listen, you've done a great job, but if Favre ends up in any other uniform other than the Green Bay Packers' I will never forgive you. Never. And that is the kindest version of what you'll hear from Packer fans everywhere if you drive Favre into the arms of another team.
No doubt to be continued...

I really hate this. If he comes back, we lose, because what message does that send to Aaron Rodgers, who's spent the last four months convincing fans to step up? If he is traded, everyone loses, even the team that gets him. Sure, you get a great QB and he gets to play, but talk about baggage, especially if the team is in the division. I hate to see Brett treated unfairly, and I hate to see the management feel like the team’s at the whim of a guy who had stepped out of the picture. I’m not sure I could forgive Brett if he forced their hand into sabotaging the team’s future by throwing Rodgers back under the bus, and I’m not sure I could forgive the Packers if they drive him away. I was sad when he retired, but this has the potential to sour so many of my feelings about Brett’s original decision to retire.

You know what I hate? This perception that the poor Packer organization is being held hostage by Brett Favre. Yeah, boo friggin hoo, they may be "forced"to take back a guy who was one of the top 5 QB's in the NFL last season. Yup, I feel really sorry for them. I'm sure fans of the Falcons, Lions, Vikings, and Bears, etc. are going to send their condolences to MM and TT.
As for the future... the future is now. This team is good right now. You know how pundits have said things like: "hey, if the Vikings/(insert solid team with crappy QB here) had a good QB they would be Super Bowl contenders." Well, they could just as easily be saying things like that about the Pack come December: "This is a really talented and explosive team. If #4 had stuck around for one more season they could have been a Super Bowl contender."

I love your little tidbit on the texting. That made me chuckle. I think TT is trying to get his ducks in a row before they chat. However, he shouldn't have said that he would speak to him later. Set up a time (July 19th? My b-day) and get this sorted. Time is a slippin' away here!

I want to see if anyone in the Wisonsin Media is intelligent enough to consider this, since it is OBVIOUS that Dead Thompson isn't: Forget for a moment that the guy's name is Brett Favre. Forget every season and every record and all the legend status and talk that goes along with the guy. Forget that he earned every bit of it. Instead just think of this guy, who came in for the Packers last season, and led the team to tie thier franchise record in wins and led them to the NFC Championship Game with pretty decent stats across the board in TD's, passing yards, passer rating and the like. Oh, and by the way, he was 70% or better of the teams entire offense for the better part of the first half of the season and won several games in the 4th quarter or overtime.
Now set that aside and, keep and eye on it, but put it to the side for just a moment. Yeah, right there to the left will be fine. Good. Now, think about all the NFL teams in history with all thier varied leadership, from coaches, to GM's to ownership that has ever existed in the NFL since it's earliest inception. Got that in your mind now? Good. Now just focus on the most boneheaded teams, the worst teams and especially the worst led teams ever. OK, got your collection? Yeah there's some real stunners in there isn't there? Now try and find one where a team had that player at QB, that situation of the year preceeding the coming season, and find the team that did NOT want that QB to come back. Find the example of the team that did not want the QB that led them the year before to those heights, with pretty much the same team coming back the next season, still ranked as either the youngest team in the league or one of the youngest teams in the league, and they did not want that QB back. They wanted instead the guy that they just like but has never even put one full game under his belt, and while he looks good, he has a hard time staying upright. Find that example in the past.
Can't? Yeah, me either...that is why we are looking at the most boneheaded NFL team in history. Bottom line. Period. Try and debate that one. Those that might should be warned about losing all credibility.
Now, go back and add everything that Brett Favre is to this situation and see if this just got a thousand times more...uh, more...jeeze...I think we have to invent a new word to describe this kind of stupidity and ignorance. Maybe like a medical condition, like Terminal Imbecilious.
Seems like the real reason that this is even an issue for TT is because of his own ego. He wants to see Brett Favre done so his own guy can shine and he can be praised for finding the next QB legend. Tell me, how is Ted Thompson supposed to tell a player that, while he is one of the best of his position, that he should take a paycut or take less money than other teams would offer because it is what is best for the team as a whole and winning a Super Bowl? Or showing up for the voluntary workouts or any of the other stuff that every NFL team asks of its players and coaches for the sake of "what's best for the team", when HE can't even push his PRIDE aside for said goal?!?
Can ANYONE give me ONE DECENT ARGUMENT as to why ANYONE would want to hurt the team they are SUPPOSED to be building into a Champion JUST SO they can hurt or penalize Brett Favre? LEGITIMATLY?
What a bunch of junk. I hope they FINALLY dump Dead Thompson!

Man I got to think Brett is losing his mind! The Pack gave him every opportunity to come back and now this??? Something tell me this itch is being helped out by one money grubbing Mr Cook.
Guys I hope ya'll realize that I love the way the man played for the Packers, but foremost I AM A PACKER FAN! That means if Brett leaves the team and the Packers line up against him I wish the same ill will on him as I do any other QB playing against our Pack.
I cried with Brett when he called it quits, I cried even harder the day that Ray Nitschke died.
Hell I even bought my first real game jersey this year and now by GOD I'm glad I didn't buy the number 4.
The Vikings, ......HMMMMM
