The Future

Next steps for the App will be to use the full spectrum of data we are receiving from comment count & quality based on users, up/down votes, and page views to make the experience even more relevant and in the moment. This will mean a more efficient crowd sourced and staff curated experience in real time for fans

As far as an Android version (the question we get asked a lot) - our goal is to have one eventually. We want to have apps on all platforms! For the moment and where we are in the road map it's much smarter, productive and cost effective to focus on one platform so we can develop the tool we want before replicating on other platforms.

Please download the app now and write a review on the apple store and send us any feedback, questions, kudos or concerns to [email protected].

Go Pack!!

I had to login twice - I first clicked the icon in the upper right and signed in. But then I had to re-enter my info at the bottom of the story page.

Yes. I was able to log in the exact same way on the webpage, and at the bottom of the article in response. I am not sure why it won't allow me to log in in the upper right corner and/or on the new comment section.
It keeps saying 'login failed, unrecognizable username or password'.

Thank you Corey and all the other Cheesehead TV guys! This is truly a wonderful addition to the already phenomenal experience of being a GBP supporter. Thank God I was born in Wisconsin, that Vince came to GB, that Ron Wolf, Mike Holmgren, and Brett Favre resurrected us, that the tradition of being the best damn franchise in all of professional sports continues, and that great fans like Corey and Aaron give their time and effort to take it to the next level of fan participation. Love you guys.

I will definitely check this out. And I'll expect good things.

I know I can't complain about what's TOTALLY FREE, but I've never been a fan of the current webpage design. That's just my personal opinion, I know.

Thanks to all who supply the great content and comments.

Very cool step Corey. Unfortunately, I have an irrational hatred of Apple and its Cult of Cool, so I will have to wait for the Android version. For now I'll just continue to check the website and leave comments through my Commodore 64.

"All the platforms"? There's really only two mobile platforms, and iOS is the smaller of them. Thanks a lot for excluding most of us.

That's why I said "mobile platforms". I love CHTV, but I can't get excited over CHTV choosing to go first on the mobile OS used by 43% of Americans and ~14% of mobile users worldwide. Aside from, you know, not getting to use it myself I feel like it's a genuine missed opportunity. The Packers have strong overseas support, and many international users are more dependent on mobile devices for accessing content than in the U.S., so it's hard not to see the opportunity cost on expanding readership.

This isn't to rag on iOS - I know people who use iPhones love their platform, and it's nice that they have a way of consuming your content that should increase engagement. But the rest of us would appreciate it if you kept the majority in mind as you plan these things it.

First of all, you don't understand how app development works. The reason pretty much every app gets made on iOS first these days is because of how it works.

There are bugs to work out, etc, and iOS is the simplest way to publish an app and work those things out, because there is only one iteration of the OS.

On Android, you're not really talking about one OS because you're talking about dozens of iterations of the OS across thousands of hardware devices from dozens of manufacturers. It's much, much more time consuming to ensure compatibility across all of those different versions of the OS on all of those different devices, so rather than building the base app for Android first and having to worry about the compatibility while ALSO worrying about working out bugs, app developers essentially rush out a beta version for Apple users and then begin to worry about Android capability.

Second of all, WTF man? You're complaining about not having something that literally didn't exist a day ago. Jesus Christ, do you realize how entitled you sound complaining about that? Get a grip man. I'm as sad as the next Android user, but patience is a virtue.

From what I can tell based on the rest of the comments, great job Corey and crew. This is an awesome step toward Skynet eventually taking care of fandom for us. :)

Thanks packsmack - I 100% agree.

unfortunately Android is an open platform and there are a ton of crappy phones - you have to make some serious design decisions and there are a ton of headaches - I wanted to get feedback from iOS users before we decided to move forward with other platforms.

Look, I'm sorry, I was a bit harsh. I do actually have a pretty good idea of how app development works (I do some coding and I wrote for a mobile tech site before I went back to graduate school). Your points are all right on that compatibility testing issues arise on Android because of OS version fragmentation, OEM customization, the greater variety of screen sizes and shapes, etc. But despite that, developers who actually do both (rather than specializing in iOS and then trying to learn Android development as a side project) have long debunked the idea that it's significantly harder or more difficult, instead the difficulties lie in different places, and in the different philosophies that you must think in when developing for each platform. e.g.:

http://www.businessinsider.com/no-it-isnt-harder-to-make-android-apps-20...

https://www.quora.com/How-difficult-is-it-to-develop-on-the-Android-plat... (and the comments therein)

A big reason why most apps have traditionally gone to iOS first (aside from it's original market share lead over Android circa 2010) is app development on iOS is more profitable for apps that charge. Although the gap has closed somewhat, at least here in the U.S. (which is a disproportionate % of the paid app market) iOS users tend to be wealthier, and even when controlling for income are more likely to pay for apps up front, while Android users tend to choose free, ad-supported apps in much larger numbers.

I don't like that trend (I always pay for apps I keep on my phone when the option is available) but the difference is real regardless of my preference. But the CHTV app isn't a paid app! Which is awesome for sure, but given that the monetization advantages of iOS don't really apply, Android is a bigger opportunity for expanding readership, especially internationally.

I apologize for the edge that crept into my initial posts there - although I prefer Android (I actually have iOS devices in the house, they just get precious little use) my biggest concern is actually what I think would help out the most. One thing that colored my response is I was put off by the apparently dismissive wording in the article - it indicates that one of their most frequent questions is about an Android version (which makes sense, given its market share), but comes off sounding like it's not even in the current plans, and might lose out to things like non-mobile platforms, etc. That's not merely a day-one difference, it read (to me at least) that it's barely even worth their time to consider right now, which brought out some sarcasm that wasn't really called for.

Obviously it's ultimately the choice of the CHTV team what they are going to do with mobile development. I don't much care for the current direction, but I absolutely support the CHTV website and the people who fill it with content. I'll try to keep my opinions more polite in the future.
