Luke Musgrave has "realistic" chance of playing vs Bears

The rookie tight end has missed six games with a lacerated kidney.

Rookie tight end Luke Musgrave has a "realistic" chance of playing in the Packers regular season finale against the Chicago Bears, according to head coach Matt LaFleur

A second-round draft pick, Musgrave was off to a good start to his rookie campaign with 33 catches for 341 yards and a touchdowns prior to being placed on Injured Reserve due to a lacerated kidney he suffered in the win over the Los Angeles Chargers.

Since Musgrave was placed on injured reserve, fellow rookie Tucker Kraft has filled in admirably. According to the Packers Dope Sheet, the two rookies together are the second rookie tight end combo since the 1970 merger to both have 25+ catches, 300+ receiving yards, and at least one receiving touchdown since Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez did it in the 2010-11 NFL season.

If Musgrave is able to go, expect to see an uptick in two tight end sets from Matt LaFeur during Sunday's contest against the Bears.

All I heard was best rookie tight ends since Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez! That's pretty exciting! Go Pack!

I am impressed with the progress and play of Tucker Kraft, so even if Musgrave doesn't play, I believe we will be okay at that position for this game. I would sure hate to see Musgrave take a hit in the area of his kidneys and risk his longer term health. As conservative as our medical staff has been over the years, I would venture a guess that Luke will sit this one out and be a go if things go as planned and we beat the Bears and get into the playoffs.

I'd love to see Musgrave get back out there and break the Packer rookie TE records.
And why not get Tucker 6 catches so he can break the record too!

While I'd love to see all our questionable weapons ready to go, I don't want any of them taking a step backwards. Reed, Wicks Musgrave and especially Watson help the O but need to be at 100% to do so. A planned snap count or having them ready to go but held in reserve as cavalry if needed makes sense. Having them 100% the following week is more important. Melton Doubs DuBose Heath Kraft and Jones may well be enough to beat da Bares.

Quite a few defensive players in that category, too. P Smith R Ford, D Campbell, Ja? Savage? The Tines LVN & #55 should maybe carry a bigger load if they're getting the job done. Would be great to have more defensive roster for the wildcard round ...
