Lane Taylor Out for the Rest of 2020

On Monday, Matt LaFleur announced Lane Taylor is done for the season with a knee injury.

Matt LaFleur confirmed the worst on Monday regarding injured offensive guard Lane Taylor. Taylor, who battled back from a biceps injury last season, is done for the rest of 2020 with a knee injury suffered in week one’s win against the Minnesota Vikings. Taylor’s latest setback will require surgery.

Taylor’s remarkable comeback is over after just one game. A biceps injured landed Taylor on injured reserve just two games into 2019, but the eighth-year guard battled back to earn a starting spot at right guard in training camp. Then, his terrible injury luck struck again.

"My heart goes out to him," LaFleur said. "Just battling back from the significant injury he had last year to get to a position where he was in our starting lineup, certainly he will be missed. I just feel bad for him as an athlete, as a man. It takes a lot to come back from a significant injury and he put the time in and put himself in great position to have a great year."

However, the Packers did receive good news on Lucas Patrick who also exited yesterday’s game. Patrick started the game at right guard but was later ruled out with a shoulder injury. According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, Patrick should be available for week two. With Billy Turner ruled out for week one, Patrick was a temporary replacement.

Rookie Jon Runyan replaced both Patrick and Taylor and held his own. Green Bay is hoping Runyan’s play from Sunday is an encouraging sign going forward if they need to continue to make adjustments along the offensive line.

Without Taylor, the Packers won’t have the experience and consistency they were hoping to have on the right side. Since 2013, Taylor has appeared in 79 games, including 50 starts. Taylor, 30, is on the final year of his contract and will be a free agent after the season. Sadly, he faces yet another long road to recovery.

Feel bad for Taylor as he was on an incentive laden deal after working so hard to rehab. Might be the end!

Very unfortunate for the GBP's and impact on OL. Players have to step up and someone will.

Two seasons in a row ended early by injury. Maybe he’s done.

Feel bad for Lane. Hope he comes back again and latches on with some team next year. With him this OL was deep and versatile.

Will be interesting to see if Justin Britt or someone else gets signed in his place this week. I think they should but I don’t run the FO so we will see. Still believe highly in depth on this OL but this season may be a war of attrition with more injuries than usual due to shortened training time to get game ready and who knows with other illnesses. Now is the time to add another quality player if GB wants to before they get snatched up by other teams.

Good team guy who played very well for us over the years and who looked to be primed for a very good season to rejuvenate his career after last year’s contract year injury.

Best wishes Lane Taylor.

Prefer that they resign Veldher over Britt but does he have anything left in the tank. Familiarity counts given this COVID year. But was kind of impressed by Runyan despite it was only against the Vikes. But we definitely need somebody to push the pile. Our O line showed that it could pass protect but not so good near the goal line

IDK. I think Veldheer is an OT only. I've read that Britt has played some OT and some OG. I don't really remember Linsley ever getting game time at OG.

Now, I want to be clear that I don't know myself about the versatility of Veldheer and Britt, or even Linsley for that matter. IDK how the coaches view Hanson other than that he ended up on the PS or how NFL-ready Nijman is right now. I don't think Zach Johnson (PS Offensive Lineman) is ready to play in the NFL.

One thing to keep in mind is that match-ups matter. While Jenkins/Wagner handled a pretty good OLB, that doesn't mean they will do as well against another pretty good OLB with a different skillset. Of course, the performance of Jenkins and Wagner against a quality OLB is very encouraging.

Tough circumstances for Lane- my heart aches for him. The rehab is a grind physically and emotionally. To happen again so soon is tough! Step-up time for others now! We we be pulling for you Lane no matter what your future will be!

Runyan will be a starter before the season is over he may turn out to be one of the best picks of 2020 .

That sucks for him. He went from missing most of last year to a guy that was mostly written off, Then he forced himself into the starting 5 picture. And he doesn't even get a full game in after all that work. It will take a lot of mental fortitude to do it all over again. I wsih him well.

Next man up. For the first time a long time, I'm not cringing at the thought.

Most likely the end of his career. Most unfortunate as he was a good player and a good guy. At least his bank account should be in better shape than he is with over 19m in career earnings.

Gald he had a good contract before this happened to him. He seams like a great guy who worked his way onto a roster the old fashioned way.

Oh. My. God.

Take a look at the Photo used for this article...

Take a close look at the medical cart that Lane is being taken off the field on.
Check out the manufacturer of that motorized cart. It's right on the back end of it.

That's... really unfortunate coincidence.

Tough break for Layne Taylor. Hopefully, he sticks with it so he can continue his career. Sounds like he busted it to get back this year. Hate to see this happen.

Wish him the best. Always tough to lose a starting OL especially a player with Taylor’s experience.

Looks like our OL depth is being tested early. Hopefully Patrick and Turner can get back for this week’s game.

Thanks, Since ‘61
