Great performance by the defense in QB containment and stopping the run. Gary did a particularly nice job in one play with cutting off Murray and pressuring him.
Evan Williams is a vicious tackler. Still getting used to this physical brand of play from the Packers safeties.
More fun with turnovers; I love this new habit the Packers defense has developed--being in the right place at the right time.
Vast ball distribution from the offense. Everybody should be happy. Doubs made some nice adjustments and moves getting into the end zone.
Direct snap to Kraft. Interesting and it worked.
Cardinals penalties slowed the game to a crawl at times.
One thing I don't like is Reed returning punts. He's too valuable a member of the offense. We don't need to do this, so just stop.

I was right Doubs—big game.
Jordan Love is a dude.
NEVERson must be “KICKED” to the curb. It was great (feel-good) story, but a change must be made.
I’m still nervous about our O & D-lines.
Can our defense continue to sustain the turnover ratio?
A win but it seemed a little shaky despite the big score.
Go Packers!!!

Ok, we had 34 points, over 450 yards of offense. How was this accomplished without people getting blocked?
Coldworld

Pass blocking was certainly not an issue, but their rush is underwhelming. Run blocking was poor to invisible for, if I’m being kind, the middle 2 quarters.
Of our yards, a large proportion were runs by Reed, Melton and Love. Another large chunk was in the 4th quarter as they tired. Thats despite the visibly hard running of the RBs.
Like it or not, we have to be better at run blocking to beat better teams. Today the pass blocking was probably flattered but they aren’t a good run defense and yet they largely bested us on the ground. Next week I doubt that’s a recipe for success.
The D, with not insignificant self-inflicted help from AZ, did a remarkable job today. Not just in containing their scoring but in facilitating ours. Next week and in Detroit, I don’t count on that being as easy.
The OL, particularly the IOL has to step it up a notch if this team is to reach its potential. Thats going to include enabling us to keep ours off the field at time too, and that means running the ball consistently.

They dominated in pass blocking. They allowed zero sacks, and Love had all kinds of time to throw. Run blocking was just okay. But of course the Cardinals set out to stuff the run, which helped the Packers dominate with their passing game. The Packers scored 34 points and shoved it down their throats to kill the clock at the end of the game when the Cardinals knew they were going to run it. Yes, that was a dominant performance.

Watch the Cards vs Purdy and the Niners. Compare to what the Packers did to them. Night and day. They sacked Purdy & forced a game-losing INT out of him. They couldn’t do anything of the sort against Love. In the last 5 minutes the Packers took the ball and never gave it back. They did a number on that defense.

Penalties, mistakes and turnovers by the Cardinals make it easier for the Packers to win. I'm still not happy with the Packers Defense. No sacks again and very little pressure on Cardinals QB. Time for Gute to go shopping again at the NY Giants defensive store before the trading deadline is up.... What did 1st round draft pick Lucas Van Ness accomplish today - NOTHING...! Packers need a speedy aggressive LB and some additional help on the D-Line ( Pass Rusher). NFC North Division is now more competitive then it ever was... How many times did the Cardinals move the ball by passing over the middle on the Packers Defense....? McDufffie and Quay Walker slow on pass coverage... Happy for the win but I'm thinking down the road the Packers need additional help on Defense. GPG...

The defense allowed 13 points and got three turnovers. The Cardinals filled out the stat sheet a little because they were happy to dink and dunk and run the ball when they were trailing by three scores. I will take this defensive performance any day of the week.

Hmmm…what does it take to get you happy with their play. Of course, there is always things every team can do better because otherwise they are perfect, which isn’t possible throughout a game. I think the DL/LB are playing a lot more containment, while keeping the O off balance vs pin your ears back. That said, yes, I’d like a speed rushing OLB as well. Is Clay want to put his cleats back on?:)

Lot of hate for this comment, not sure why. The D played well, but Kyler played awful lets be real. They are getting no damn pressure like you said. And the inside lbs are really bad. With that said, cooper looks like a dude and he got on the field more today. I wouldn't be surprised if in two weeks, he will be the starter. The D as a whole is not bad, but the lack of pressure is not just a fluke any more. We will see next week against Stroud.

October 13, 2024 at 10:49 pm
No sacks does not equal no pressure.
Murray had to evacuate the pocket a number of times and most of the day he had to get rid of the ball quickly.. and the Packers didn't give up a ton of rushing yards to him in the process.
Maybe Murray didn't have a great day because the defense made things difficult for him.
Coldworld
October 14, 2024 at 01:06 am
I thought they did about as good a job of not only stopping him getting outside the pocket, but not allowing him to dance backwards and around within it. I don’t think we could have played him much better. Hafley got that right today. I even agree with Nixon outside in that game and I saw effort throughout to achieve that. They did it while containing a powerful big back as well. His best day thus far.
It answers no questions about whether our rush can get to a less mobile QB consistently and often, but I can’t believe many thought this game would unless our efforts to contain totally failed first. They did the opposite. Celebrate this, while acknowledging that AZ certainly voluntarily assisted at times. That comes with frustration and being forced to play how we wanted them to.

Theyve been good at containing running QBs this season, that is true. They got some pressure, with some blitzes, but you can't deny that this front 4 is a disappointment this year... Rashan Gary is not himself, Preston is trying but he's older now, vanness has taken a step back. Kenny Clark is not wrecking shit like he used to. They blitzed and they got home.

I'll have to re-watch the game sometime, I don't recall the Packers blitzing much. I remember them bringing Cooper once and Williams another time, but those are the only two blitzes I remember. I'll keep an eye out for it.

October 14, 2024 at 06:16 pm
We aren't blitzing much. In fact, I checked last week and we were like 31st in blitz percentage. We are rushing with four and covering with 7. What will help make this work is that we have so many good defensive linemen than we can keep putting fresh, healthy guys out there, all season long.
Clark/Wyatt/Gary/Smith/VanNess/Slaton/Enagbare/Brooks/Wooden.
That's a formidable group, IMO.

Not sure why the negative reactions here...all factual information save for your personal opinion about shopping at the Giants' store, which I'd be in favor of as well. Regarding the defense, the jury is out for me until after this Houston game. There's been a lot of talk about how it's going to take several weeks for Players to adjust to new scheme as well as Hafley growing into the role and learning what he's really got in this roster. How we perform against Stroud and a stout Houston O will be very telling, IMO, as to what we can (hope to) expect for the remainder of the season.
Not enough talk about how much of a force Wyatt was becoming before he went down. Would love to see his ascendance continue. Go Pack Go!

Jordan Love is rounding into shape. He looked really good today and his throws were ON THE MONEY. I thought MLF and his staff had a hell of a game plan.
When Christian Watson is on the field good things happen. He made some really nice plays today and he blocks his ass off every play!
I was SO happy for Romeo Doubs. Loved how his teammates all congratulated him and how Reed and Watson were the first there. The little group hug between the 3 of them showed they have his back and I thought pretty cool.
Evan Williams is one of my new favorites. That kid just MAKES plays. So does Karl Brooks, The forced fumble and fumble recovery was beautiful.
This defense played really well all game long. Still not a lot of pressure but I thought they had a good plan for Murry. With Brooks, Bullock, Williams, and Cooper, the Packers have 4 young buy very good players. These kids will just get better and better each week.

Yeah the young kids are getting it done on D, except vanness. Rashan Gary is still the biggest disappointment, although he did at least get after Murray a bit today. Love got sharper as the game went on.

You bring up a GREAT and not often mentioned point regarding the young dudes on the defense...just like our WR room last year, it's not unreasonable to think they will continue to progress throughout the season.
For whatever reason, it seems folks are just expecting rookies to walk in and be awesome. History shows that's the exception, not the rule.

A reversal of the previous games which had taken the OL and DL until the second half to get rolling, they hit the ground running this week. I wasn’t enamored with either line in the second half when the Cards were moving the ball without trouble when penalties and turnovers were stopping them more than the D. I was more than happy to witness a game when the combination of good play and luck made this a game where a win was never in doubt. May the good fortune continue to reign against the Texans.

D line doesn't seem to be able to shed blocks, giving the qb too much time and exposed the center of the field. Somethings just not right with their defense, and I blame most of it on their d line play.

A lot of posts complaining about lack of pressure on the QB.
Kyler Murray was moved off the spot a number of times today and when wasn't he generally had to get the ball out quickly because the pocket was collapsing around him.
There weren't any sacks, but there certainly was pressure on the QB today.

In fairness, a DC could have credibly anticipated that McBride wasn’t cutting it alone if they kept all other options locked down. Not changing things up meant some yards given up but precious little else and didn’t stop the turnovers coming. Absolutely the right choice in that game. I’ve been critical of Hafley at times, but today he got it right coming in and he got it right during.

Packers held the Cardinals--who have been a top 5 running offense--and made them one-dimensional. Murray didn't have a good day, especially after Harrison got hurt, and never really threatened with his legs. Any time you hold an NFL offense to 13 points, you did good. This defense had a better day than some are giving them credit for...although they never seemed to be able to find 85 in the middle of the field.
Jordan Love was, at one point, 2 of 6 throwing the football--20 of 26 after that for about 68% overall. He mostly threw the ball well, and although the wing-and-a-prayer TD to Doubs that 87 salvaged and turned into a score was another of his happy floaters. The one pick wasn't his fault.
Houston will be a challenge next week, even if they're without Nico Collins. They're going to score points.

Good win for the Packers. Solid running game for 179 yards. Defense had a great game and hopefully they are beginning to find their footing in the Hafley defense. They did a good job against the Cardinals run game and keeping Murray in check.
Good game plan for the offense. Packers cut down the penalties to 5. They need to continue to minimize their own penalties.

Jailbreak blitz, single coverage. let your guy make a play, that was a high percentage throw.
Oppy
October 13, 2024 at 10:37 pm
It's a 50/50 ball, so by definition, not a high percentage throw.
It was a perfectly fine decision, it's the WR vs DB. It wasn't a great throw, he identified the blitz, needed to get the ball out of his hand quick, and just put up into the vicinity, and under the circumstances, that's totally acceptable.. but that's not high percentage.
Bitternotsour
October 13, 2024 at 11:32 pm
1 out of 1 makes it exceptionally high percentage in my world.
Coldworld
October 14, 2024 at 01:18 am
It’s a 50/50 throw in the sense that it’s a one on one situation. In fact no one else is catching that ball except Doubs. The question is whether he does, and he’s shown an ability to track and adjust to balls behind him. It’s not quite as metronomic or smooth as the Nelson back shoulder, but it could become so. Not a low percentage throw, but as Bitter pointed out, a classic blitz beater with a relatively safe high upside throw.
Rodgers might have thrown that away. Many is the time people wished he’d take a few more risks at key moments like that to turn the screw. Now people complain when it’s not a low percentage TD? If Mahomes did that, he’d be applauded. Maybe we still need to decompress a little. Maybe we we also should remember that Rodgers would regularly throw into windows mice could barely crawl through if he trusted the receiver. Love hasn’t been shy about saying he trusts Doubs, verbally or with his throws.

"I'm going to heave it up towards the pylon" I know that this stuff gets practiced all the time. You know those drills where the QB is trying to drop it into the net downfield? The only difference here was a much higher trajectory, and Doubs made a play on the ball and the defender didn't.
I'm not going to call it high percentage, but it wasn't a reckless or stupid throw. Especially when you've got a guy like Doubs.

No disrespect to the Packers, who played well, however I think that the Cardinals penalized themselves out of contention with this game.
That punt strip of Wicks that got called back by the helmet grab call was the dagger - the re-run play return by Nixon for 35 and strike TD to Watson on the next play were clinical.
Glad to see Evan Williams taking jersey #33 (A.Jones old jersey) and making it synonymous with the number of a FOOTBALL PLAYER (irrespective of the side of the ball that they play on).
Rashan Gary consistently getting lined up out wide of the RT just seems to give the RT extra time to kick step - good to see a penalty getting called on the RT's lining up back of the line (I thought that a few plays last week were deserving of this). Gary seemed to be more effective once the Tackles were kept honest.
Edgarin Cooper is becoming someone that teams have to account for.
I'm not sure of Romeo Doubs as a true WR1 (jury is still out), but he's certainly a better matchup when pitted against an opponent's CB2 or Nickel CB. Maybe he's just a legit WR2 - there's no shame in that, Julian Edelman made a stellar career off of being that.

"""... I think that the Cardinals penalized themselves out of contention with this game."""
Rule #1 of Football: Most games are not won, they are lost. They are lost by penalties, turnovers, and poor execution.
High School, College, NFL, Pop Warner......they've all shown me, for decades, that this is a true statement. Look at the Packers this year. We're 4-2, two made FGs would put us at 6-0.
When you have the youngest team in the league, you're going to have some mistakes. Also, the starters had no preseason, so it has taken a few games against live opposition to get their stuff together, and now we're in mid-season form, just like we're supposed to be. Love will protect the ball.....I predict that at some point this season, just like last, we'll go 3 or 4 games in a row without Love turning it over at all. I've seen Favre, I've seen Rodgers, and Love is a lot closer to Rodgers in that regard.
I don't think Gary and VanNess are being asked to rush as much as they are in "contain mode". We aren't being gashed by QBs escaping the pocket and rabbiting down the field. We aren't taking late hit penalties. We're keeping the QBs in the pocket and saying "throw it". The results? Pretty good for the Packers so far, I'd say.
GregC
October 13, 2024 at 05:37 pm
One thing that we have this year that we haven't had in many years (maybe since Eddie Lacy) is a power running game. It's not a great one, but it's good enough, and it should get better when Marshawn Lloyd comes back. The Packers can control time of possession and set up play-action with this running game. I also loved watching them kill the clock at the end with big runs by their #2 and # 3 RBs.
It was great to see Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs have good days. That's exactly what this offense needed. And Jordan Love was nearly perfect. There was an underthrow to Ben Sims that was caught anyway, and of course the interception was not his fault at all. My favorite pass was the lob to Christian Watson near the line of scrimmage that went for a first down late in the game. Love was so calm on that play, with a big defender running right at him.
Xavier McKinney's name was barely mentioned. Nobody wants to throw in his direction anymore.
Kenny Clark seemed more active in this game. Moose Johnston said he wasn't held on that one play where he and the blocker both went to the ground, but I saw the blocker reach out and grab Clark's leg. That's a hold. The refs got it right. The fumble recovery was a good hustle play. I also saw him burst through the line one time but just miss the ballcarrier, who ran to the other side of the line.
Does anybody know why Jaire Alexander was called for a personal foul late in the second half? They didn't show it on TV. The Cardinals got a BS unnecessary roughness penalty late in the game when Krys Barnes barely touched Jordan Love. That's the only blatantly bad call I can think of.

There were a couple times when Jacobs was running the football effectively and keeping his feet through trash that I thought, "AJ Dillon could never have done that".
GregC
October 13, 2024 at 08:10 pm
Emmanuel Wilson has been an upgrade over Dillon as a power runner as well. Jacobs and Wilson are both quicker, with more wiggle and better balance than Dillon. The Packers also seem to be putting more emphasis on run blocking. Today they called up FB/TE Andrew Beck from the practice squad, and I saw him out there a few times. Also, the new TE they signed from the Falcons practice squad is more of a blocking TE than a receiving TE.

Pretty balanced offense today, with the exception of the one pick, Love looks like he's ready to roll. Great job spreading the ball around Good to see the wide reciievers gathering around Doubs after the touchdown, He may not be receiver one, but he makes a lot of great adjustments to get to the ball when he needs to. No sacks or picks by the defense, but they kept Murray from running all over hells half acre and did come up with three fumbles. - Great team win.
- Good to have our full compliment of receivers back. Harder to defend the committee. Doubs and Watson were responsible for 21 points.
- The D looks so much different with Ja back in there too.
- Gutey gets mad cred for revamping this Safety room in just one season. Just wow.
- I feel like we get to unleash our pass rush next week. If Murray wasn’t so fast…….we would have had like 3-4 sacks today.
- Lol. We should suspend Doubs more often.
- Really fun to watch Jacobs run. Seems like we were 2nd and 5 almost every series.
- I feel like Love is mastering his cadence better than AR12. Probably because he doesn’t always just wait till one second to snap it.
- Simple equation: Cooper minutes + Williams minutes + Brooks minutes equals good results.
- Sims pulled a Krafter today.
- See!? Narvs. Left hash?…..go for it on 4th. Right hash? Kick right down the middle.
- Nixon gets one of my unsung gameballs. For D and teams.
- THAT’s why we need Watson in the lineup.
- D really stepped up after that first half pick to hold it to 3.
- Won the penalty battle again. Two weeks in a row.
- See!? Left hash. Terrible. Gotta think the experiment is almost over.
- Whoa. Against all odds. A rare Left hash make.
- Pass to the Running Backs. Run with the Wide Receivers. This offense rules.
- Our rushing yards per game is unfathomable.
- Remember when we couldn’t contain running QBs? We’ve done it three times now. Hats off to Hafley and the D.
- Beat the Texans. Go Pack Go

there's no solution to the kicker situation now anyone out there has been cut , and as much as I love our all time leading scorer, mason Crosby isn't the answe. Barring a bad team making a trade fir their good kicker at the deadline We are saddled with Narveson until the end of the season

There are kickers who have been better. Not great but better. One of them is Carlson, but there are a couple of others, Riley Patterson and another whose name escapes me, that have decent track records if not great or without questions. Certainly better than Narveson’s at this point.
The CFL season is done for non playoff teams in 2 weeks. While some kickers there use a tee, many don’t and might well be an option. Personally, I’d resign Carlson and eat humble pie at this point. I’d also look to add another to the PS or shift Narveson if they think he could be fixed and have an extended fight through the bye, 3 way including Hales if he’s ready. At this point the more straws to clutch, the better the chance one proves adequate.

But punt returns are the most important part of the game!!! I mean, you have a chance to put the bottom of your roster on the field so they can turn it over or commit a stupid penalty. Or, if you want, you can expose one of your best players to injury.
Gute and/or Lafleur have the same options as always: Continue to put Special Teams in a position to hurt us, or not. Start by fair catching the punts, so we never have a turnover, injury, or penalty on punt returns.
Go for two after every TD. Stop kicking FGs, except at the end of the half, or the game. Adopt a 4 down mentality when we get in FG range, and try to get 8 out of the possession,,,using our best offensive players.... instead of a chance at 3 by some fullback who's been.....erratic.
If Gute and LaFleur will call me, I'll be happy to share this advice with them.

Only one GUT reaction. Run…THE …DAMN…BALL…. Packers were up 31-13 and proceeded to run 3 PASS plays. WHY? The worst run defense in the league!
Luckily the Cardinals were inept and turned it over. I can’t be the only one that noticed.

Gut Reaction: The Packers put together a complete performance in their 34-13 win over the Cardinals. Jordan Love had his best game of the year, throwing for 258 yards and 4 TDs, while the defense forced three fumbles and kept Arizona’s offense in check. Love looked confident, connecting with 10 different receivers, and Romeo Doubs came up big with two TDs. The run game wasn’t flashy, but Josh Jacobs did enough to keep the offense balanced, and the defense continued to shine, leading the league in turnovers.
Packers fans should be excited about how the team played on both sides of the ball. Love is showing growth, the defense is creating opportunities, and even with some missed chances (looking at you, special teams), this was a statement win. What stood out to me was how the team was on the same page from that second offensive series on.
