Cannot argue with this. We have like 8 really good players and then either declining, average or straight up bad ones.

It needs to be a season and offseason of significant upheaval.

How did Ray Finkle disguise himself as Mason Crosby today? He look just like Mason though his facemask.

Another horrible slow start on the road.

At Rams and at Patriots in the next 3 games...ouch

Is MM a good coach?

The Browns have the same record as the Packers after 5 games

'IF' we stay healthy, this Packers team could be playing good ball by seasons end (and if they don't beat themselves).

You mean IF they would have fired McCarthy at the end of last season maybe just maybe the Packers would be prepared to play?

IF this wasn't such a horribly coached team offensively and on special teams.

IF McCarthy calls RUN plays all the way to the Lions 20 yard line on one of the first drives before it got away and then calls 3 straight passes all of which were incomplete?

IF indeed and they all start with the coaching staff not having the team ready to play. I've never seen such a cast of who the hell is he on a coaching staff.

IF it wasn't for the defense this game could have been even UGLIER by halftime.

This game, and all the others were easily winnable for this team.

Mike's teams are always like this. Look back to previous seasons. They ALWAYS have to get to the brink of elimination before they turn it around.

It's not over for this team. But it could be over for Mike in Green Bay.

I don't know about you but I think Rodgers has had it with McCarthy. You can see the frustration on his face with the play calling. McCarthy has been HC since 2007 and he has grown stale. Time to make a change.

Give up 17 points on 3 turnovers, Crosby costs us 10 points that is a 27 point swing. We should win this game 33-14. 12 penalties doesn't help either. Lions are too good to give them 3 TOs, miss 3 FGs and have 12-13 penalties.

I posted before the game that the Packers would lose if they went to sleep for part of the game, 1st quarter, and had too many penalties. The Packers have no one to blame but themselves. No excuses. Wasted a 400+ yard performance by Rodgers. That 22-0 win against Buffalo looks pretty good now doesn't it Aaron. At least we have the same record as the Browns.
Thanks, Since '61

Crosby had a very bad day but I can't totally clobber him on a 56 yard FG. I would happily trade the 56 yarder for the other 3 that he should have made. Even with the 3 TOs those nine points give us a tie at 31 each. The Xtra point gives us a 32-31 victory. Rodgers looks like he's back. That's the only silver lining on the day. Thanks, Since '61

Rodgers also had a few costly fumbles that should not have happened.

Yet again, we saw an offense that struggles when the ball is held too long and looks much better when the QB stands in the pocket and decisively gets the ball out on time.

One very bad call on STs, Crosby, and yes, Aaron Rodgers, cost us the game today.

Since 61, I haven't been in a Casino for 2 weeks. I'm trying not to post on here because I am trying not to bet anymore. What more can I say that I haven't already said. JERSEY AL, bring up any of my posts from the past 5 or
6 years on Mason Crosby. Post it Today, it'll fit. For the Last Time, He is NOT NOW, nor HAS HE EVER BEEN, & nor WILL HE EVER BE, a CLUTCH KICKER. He's the guy that missed the CLUTCH KICK 2 weeks ago, that could have won the game. The TIME OUT KICK wasn't CLUTCH, the NEXT ONE WAS!! He Missed. He also missed an Extra Point. He's a JOKE!!. If it were up to me, he'd be Selling Shoes 10 years already.

I'm giving Mason Crosby a Beautiful Yellow GAME BALL. Not because he cost GB 13 Pt's, but because he added to his Record Of Being The NFL's All Time Leading Kicker in Hitting Goal Posts. Way to Go Mason!!

I'm sure I'll get SMACK back on this, especially from you OPPY, but instead of sending it to me, send it to all the Packer Fans who took GB +1. I've proved you wrong, Too Many times.

I'm sure Taryn didn't have GB +1 or -1. By the way Taryn, did you Win your Los Angeles Dodgers bet? Did they win 100 games? I didn't follow it. Hope you got it.

I’m a pretty good lip reader since the Fox p-by-p is usually beyond annoying so I mute the incessant chatter.

At one point when Rodgers was running left and trying to escape pursuit and finally after 7 seconds of not seeing the open guys on the right and center of the field he lobbed it out of bound, the camera went to close-up if McCarthy, he being thoroughly frustrated and said “throw the g...damn ball”.

I think it was early in the 4th q when they thought they might be still in the game.

I find it interesting that everyone is so sure MM hasn't told Rodgers to get the ball out on time.

It seems to me, I've seen more than a handful of pressers over the years where MM makes it clear the ball needs to come out. I highly doubt MM is telling the media but not saying it to Aaron Rodgers in the locker room, on the sideline, or in practice.

You don't have to like MM, but he's a straight shooter and he is pretty adamant about handling shit in the locker room, not in the media. If he's saying something about an issue to the press, you can be sure it's already been addressed with the players.

Rodgers is his own worst enemy. He's going to hold the ball regardless of the consequence for the rest of the career despite the great results he gets going quick tempo, first read.

It was my number one complaint of him from the first time he became a starter to now. Could be all-world if he took the quick hitters more often and open reads. Instead we'll get the occasional big play, but more often the drive killing sack needless punishment, holding call, fumble or injury.

For such a smart guy I guess that's just the way he's wired.

Mojo,

If you've got 45 minutes and want a really, really unexpected look into the mind of Aaron Rodgers, watch this link.

1) I promise it's awesome and you'll thoroughly enjoy the time spent
2) It is nostalgic, fun, and infuriating
3) there will be at least 3 or 4 moments where you'll be dumb struck with the feeling of "Oh. My. God.. That's Aaron Rodgers. I can't believe it, but that's exactly what's going on in Rodgers' head."

Mike McCarthy has stated on more than one occasion that the biggest mistake on the 49ers scouting of Aaron Rodgers (which he was a significant part of) was that they far undervalued Rodgers' athletic ability and it was a major factor in their passing on Rodgers to take Alex Smith.

There is no doubt that McCarthy is not as creative as he could be, and no doubt I think it may be time at the end of the year to let him go, but what exactly did he do today to cause so much anger and frustration? Regarding playcalling, the Packers moved the ball at will on the Lions for basically the entire game, then struggled to do anything in the red zone. Why are the red zone struggles on McCarthy? Rodgers had multiple receivers who were open, and he looked the other way or ran around in the pocket until he got sacked, fumbled, or had to throw the ball away. Frankly, I put this game entirely on Rodgers and Crosby. There isn't really anything to say about Crosby other than that he cost them the game, but I think the 400 yards passing by Rodgers belie the fact that he had a generally terrible game, most of which was his fault. He needs to take what the defense gives him and if not, then throw the ball away sooner. Those sacks and fumbles he took were his fault and cost them points and gave the Lions the game.

Thank you! People do this every week but before they light the torches they should check the All22 on some of these games. Rodgers is costing this team points and yards and games with his unnecessarily stupid need to always go for the deep ball. Watch the Redskins game the plays were there almost all day but no he wanted the back breaker play or just plain didn’t see the open man this game was pretty much the same thing. The def did all it could be what more can they do when your off gives it twice and ST gives up one and leaves 10 points on the field.

So CAG,

Answer this please.

If the Head Coach CAN'T STOP the QB from rejecting the wide open reads to opt for the deep ball home runs, how do you fix that?

If the million dollar QB continues down this path--with zero accountability for poor performance while blaming everyone else on offense-- how do you fix that?

"Aaron holds the ball too long and is costing us points"

You guys are clowns. Go back and watch how many times GB had 2 WRs running to the same spot in the redzone...go back and watch how many plays GB WRs had literally 0 separation from the DBs. Can't throw it when you have no one to throw it to. Aaron has missed some throws so far this season he usually makes look effortless and there have been times I've seen a wide open WR not get the ball. I've also seen a ridiculous amount of drops and poor route running. One thing I would like to see more is Aaron talking to his WRs on the bench with some fire like the way - and I hate to even mention his name - Tom Brady does.

All that being said - give Aaron Jones the damn ball!!! He's a BEAST.

Once again go back and watch the tape you’re pointing at something that isn’t nearly as common this year and if they isn’t any separation then what is the QB supposed to do? Throw it away right? Which goes back to him holding the ball too long and costing the team points. Thanks for reinforcing my point CLOWN.

I put this on coaching still....Rodgers "off" is still better than 1/2 of the other QBs on their best days. We knew a couple of things going into this season...we needed a #2 WR.... I don't care what anyone says...Cobb is a slot WR period. Allison although he was playing well prior to the concussion... is a #3 #4 at best. Jimmy Graham is good and with the right scheme could be productive...but flat out hands down is NOT a #2 WR replacement on the outside like many thought...including myself. Especially the way he is being used by McCarthy right now. THEY knew that developing 4th 5th and 6th round receivers would take time...

2 receivers in the same spot multiple times ...thats training, coaching and players fault...it looked like Nobody knew who was supossed to catch it or who the ball was intended for....they have had all off season and training camp to figure that shit out.

There is a just ton of things to fix on this team right now. What good is rotating players if the other team knows exactly what your rotation plays are? Just about every screen to Monty got sniffed out...So either Jones doesn't know how to run screens or McCarthy is too stubborn to use him in that fashion. Nothing in this offense looks in sync... Yards and stats be damned ...just doesn't look like a smooth well coached offense.

Well let's see, what did he do today. He continues to use Montgomery at running back even though the clear best RB is Jones. Jones and William's would be a good duo with Montgomery being used more at a slot receiver. He doesn't adjust well to game. Lions had a lot of pressure. I dont remember seeing a lot of screens and more short passes in first half to try and break the pressure. He doesn't use his personnel wisely or adjust. These were very evident today as well.

PackRbckr53, he used Monty because he's by far the best pass-catching back, which was evident throughout the game when Rodgers actually chose to throw him the ball. There was no point to have Aaron Jones in the game when you're throwing the ball 9 out of every 10 times. Why use Monty at slot when Graham, MVS, and ESB all played in the slot and caught balls? The problem is Rodgers does not trust in the plays/game plan, therefore he does what he wants and holds the ball too long rather than taking the easy throws. He had ESB and Monty open underneath plenty of times, but he's crazy about big plays and holds onto the ball. That results in sacks and turnovers like we saw today. When Rodgers executed the plays, the Packers moved the ball. He didn't execute in the redzone (kept looking for bombs to Adams and Graham in the endzone instead of 10 yard routes) which set them up for 3rd and long, then more Crosby misses. This game was on Rodgers and Crosby, not McCarthy, no matter how much one dislikes MM and regardless of whether he should be fired.

Yes 2 sack fumbles where he was blindsided. Both plays he usually makes with his legs and runs for positive yards. I think everyone can agree seeing him get chased down from behind by non elite DLinemen is not normal. He has gained some mobility back the last few weeks but its obvious he's not 100%.

To answer your question about what I think he should do instead of throw it away - pick up the yards with his legs. Even if it's just a 3 or 4 yard gain it's still positive yardage and makes 3rd down shorter and easier. It also keeps the D honest. Teams know he isnt very mobile right now and they are taking advantage of that.

Keep in mind he has barely even been practicing during the week. Those missed reps are a big factor in timing and chemistry. Once he gets the youngsters up to speed I think GB will be pretty hard to stop. MVS and St Brown both run a 4.3 or 4.4 - something like that? That's a major threat when the chemistry starts flowing.

For as bad as Rodgers, special teams and Crosby played today, they still had a chance to win up to 4 minutes left. I'm not blaming this one on MM. I was once again happy/ok with our defensive performance today. They were put in some tough situations with those Rodgers fumbles. I still don't know what kind of team this is. Yes it IS indeed a BAD TEAM!

And guess what?

The "bad" extends to AROD and MM in particular.
And... the excuses that AROD has no weapons and that MM is a very good coach are stale.

AROD threw high, threw short and flat out missed multiple receivers that were wide open today.

And MM demonstrates zero ability to make AROD STOP this ridiculous "sandlot offense" strategy--with 3 receivers going 25 yards deep.

UGH.

No playoffs for Pack this year.

Classic. Absolutely classic. A-Rod bitches. We lose the next game. The press smells blood. Well are you people still happy with A-Rod getting guaranteed money? MVPs come to play for 60 min. That was not the case here. Crosby should be canned just for the cap money needed. Oh and was this MMs game plan. I saw so many RBs open. Adams nice drop on the goal line again. So who really is the blame here. I'm sure A-Rod can point the finger at the line. Point it at the Rookies. Point it at the penalties. And point his middle finger at the coach again. Say everything will be fine.

I actually don't know what to say about Crosby. He has been clutch at times. His career record just isn't all that good. It isn't all that good even tossing out his worst year. And your point that Crosby making $3M versus $5M is correct: that isn't the problem.

Seeing MN struggle to find field goal kickers suggests that a consistent but mediocre field goal kicker is probably just fine. Crosby runs a bit hot and cold.

I obsess over a million here and a hundred thousand there, but I don't think we should dump Crosby. He should have competition every year though.

That kick would have never happened if St Brown was not caught from behind. I thought it was Arrons best throw of the game. A kicker must keep his KILLER instinct. A kicker must Love kicking. Cosby missed easy Points. Thats the problem. They weren't game ending pressure kicks. He's a veteran and the anchor on this team. Points add up. Disappointed thats for sure.

As I've said before, the rebuilding of the Packers needs to start at the top. Mark Murphy needs to be fired. He's the one that stayed with Thompson 2-years too long and now has set up a management structure that has proven to be a failure. There hasn't been any accountability under Murphy's tenure and there isn't going to be any while he's here.

Hire a new team President and give him/her authority to make decisions on Gutekunst, Ball & McCarthy. The longer they wait to do what is necessary the longer it's going to take before the Packers can be legitimate SB contenders again.

Lare, Who ever you are, You partially know what you're talking about. I've always been in favor of MM as HC. I won't disagree with any of you who think he is a Poor HC. As you stated, the problem is way above MM. Here's what I suggest.
1 Get rid of the (Head Guy) & what ever he does in that building,
(Immediately!!)
2 Get rid of Mark Murphy (Immediately!!) His Pedigree comes from Northwestern. NORTHWESTERN??? Check what they did under his Reign there? How does he get the GB job?? The (Head Guy) hired him. There must be a reason for that.
3 Until they win a SB, DON'T HIRE anyone from CLEVELAND. Don't trade for anyone either, unless his 1st name is Joe, & his last name is Thomas.
4 Lay some of this blame at the feet of AR. He could have left $5 or $10 Million on the table. I don't think it would have hurt him any. (He didn't do it). He could have fought for Jordy Nelson. (He didn't do it).
5 Quit comparing this team to the 2010 team. John Hadle could have won a SB with those receivers. We don't have anything near that group.
6 Fine Clay Mathews $45 Million Dollars for impersonating a Linebacker the last 3 years.
7 Fine Mason Crosby 1/2 his Career Salary for impersonating a FG Kicker his entire career.
8 Cut Cobb. He hasn't been the same since he got hurt 2 years ago.
9 When you get all this done, then you can think about firing MM. He may be a Poor Coach, but he can only coach what he has.
10 Finally, No Matter what you do. It's not going to change the outcome of the games. The House will still Win, & all of you will still Lose.

The defense isn't as bad as it's made to be.
Would help if the offense sustained drives and scored points, putting pressure back on the opposition and relieving pressure from the defense. ST disaster and fumbles by 12 put the defense in difficult positions.
The offense has been shut out in first halfs at Washington and Detroit now.
Lack of execution is killing this team.

I have very few problems with the defense as they held Stafford to 183yds passing and Detroit to 277 total yds which is outstanding. Forcing some turnovers would've been nice but they still held down their end of the game. The special teams pitiful day and the poor offensive play in the first half doomed the Packers.

Correct. Every unit has an obligation to help out the other. So far this season, the offense hasn't held up their end of the bargain.
The offense couldn't score TDs against the Vikes in a game which the defense held Minnesota to 7 points for 3 quarters. Ends up with a tie.
Against Washington and Detroit the offense couldn't sustain any drives and relieve any pressure on the defensive unit in the first halves. Before you know it, the game is out of hand.

You can't win in the NFL with a 1st Half like the Packers played. 24-0. Mostly created by turnovers. Almost everyone played poorly. I love AR but don't want to hear any BS at the post game presser. His TWO fumbles killed us. Kevin King not getting out of the way of the punt killed us. Tony Brown stupidity cost us at least a chance. You can't keep running down 24-0. Very embarrassing performance today. So much to be fixed. I still believe they can fix this. Needs to start next week.

TK, STs have a verbal signal besides the wave off for a fair catch. In my estimation, King failed to look or listen for the fair catch wave or signal word. Too much adrenaline or fight in his helmet to pay attention. On a side note, Fox did not have opposite side cameras for better replay angles. That's on the League with the Fox contract. Fox only supplies extra cameras for the Game of the Week.

Stockholder,

Funny you ask about whose offense this is.

In fact, I recall last week when posting on this very topic, a reader chastised me by commenting that despite what I said about the playbook being recreated, it was only getting "tweaked".

Well, MM said differently when asked.

According to PackerWire...McCarthy said he and new offensive coordinator Joe Philbin – who returns to Green Bay after four years in Miami and two in Indianapolis – " are planning to start from scratch in rebuilding the playbook for 2018...."

So the answer is the offense is theirs--with assist from AROD, who blesses the plays and game plan in all his meetings.

There was a discussion earlier on this week on some Packers website, I don’t remember if it was here or where, regarding whether Rodgers has as much control over the playcalling as we all tend to think he does. I think today proved how it works out: McCarthy calls the play and Rodgers either changes it or goes ahead with it resentfully, then purposely plays backyard football with it because he thinks he can do more than the set play. It seems very underhanded and subtle, which strikes me as something an angry Rodgers would definitely be prone to. McCarthy probably needs to go regardless of whether he is a successful coach or not because there is such a rift between he and AR. The Packers need a coach who will have both Rodgers trust AND respect, otherwise Rodgers will do his own thing and sink the offense as we are witnessing now.

Before the game I mentioned that this game was to be a statement on our progression from last season's follies. Here is what I saw:

The lions still know our defense inside and out. Nothing surprised them today and they moved the ball at will with rare exception.

AR is not the same QB he was before the injury. He has always held on to the ball too long, but now he lacks that special something that allowed him to overcome that issue.

Mason... Oh, Mason, we love you but you are way off this season. People will say "he kept us in the vikings game" but they will forget he also cost us the win in that game.

Why is jones on the bench? This is a coaching failure.

Why are we routinely seeing WR on top of each other? This is a coaching failure.

Rodgers once again gets locked onto a WR and ignores 2-3 open guys each play. Another coaching failure; though at this point I dont think AR listens to coaches anyway.

No meaningful or consistent pass rush. Sacks only come through coverage.

Corey and Aaron live during the game is cool, but today's game was on national TV so why watch some pirate feed with massive delay times?

The numbers of flags makes the NFL unwatchable. The situational rules make this game unwatchable. That rules change depending on time remaining or which quarter is just pure garbage.

Well... We get 49ers next week. They are terrible. So are our Packers. Should be a close game even though it is a garbage game.

I think the young receivers got some good reps and some key drops again but by Adams and Graham on touchdowns , again where did Aaron Jones disappear to? Bad call on the punt given to the Lions ,just a sloppy day for the Packers , penalties etc.... you have to look at the coaching at this point. Can't blame Mason Crosby either just wasn't his day.

What would we have to do to prove that the Lions have built a wind machine into the dome? I'd really like to be able to see the kicks from above to see if there's anything suspicious about the trajectory of the ball.
Could that packer's kicking ball have had gyroscopes inserted?
There's no way Crosby kicks this bad without tampering.
Watch other teams kickers for the rest of the year! something funny and unsportsmanlike is going on in that dome.

Strange game. Refs blowing a call right at the change of procession and going down hill from there. Two things holding this team back, one is youth. This a very young team, and with next years draft it will be younger still. Don't blame IAMGUTE, that's how the NFL rolls these days. Much depends on how the young kids mature during the season. This team has talent, more than I thought they had, growing pains is also painful for us fans too. Two is Rodgers. I know it's hard, but he needs to adjust to the scheme and the players around him. He is trying, but it's hard, and the short training camp did him no favors. Today was one of those days were the ball did not bounce the Packers way. And yes, all things being equal the Packers should have won this game, they are the better team. But not today, today well, crap happens. That's the way it is.

Simply, by to many mistakes... And giving ball to Detroit on short field.
Sorry, but first TO was obvious mistake by referees. The ball was touched by Lions player first, not by Kevin King.
I would like Ross or somebody make the analysis on that play...
I thought game against Redskins was the worst game of Aaron Rodgers but this game, today was the top w/o any doubts. This game is on him and Mason Crosby!

AR completed over 60% of his passes 32/52 for 442 yds 3TD's and zero Int's. Yes his fumbles hurt. but no where near as much as the missed Crosby Kicks and the blown call on the punt giving Detroit the ball at the 1 yard line. That's 17 points given away by special teams. If Crosby makes his kicks and King stays away from the ball the score is 33-24 even with the fumbles. I have a hard time pinning this one on Rodgers even if he did hold the ball too long at times.

Were talking the Detroit Defense here. It was on Arron Rodgers. Two fumbles led to points! Arron shot off his wad last week. It's on Arron. Crosby tried to save his butt and he became another goat. You must have low expectations for the highest paid QB in the game. I don't. Arron has been off for some time. This packer regime didn't owe him a retirement. HE HAD SEVERAL PASSES ALMOST PICKED OFF LAST WEEK. The more I see of Arron playing bad: The game plan should not be in question. The question now is will we ever see a-rod become the MVP QB the fans LOVED!

Umm... 442 yds 3 TDs against the #2 ranked pass defense is an MVP type performance. If that's a bad game I'll take it every week. Did he play perfect? No. But he put his team in position to score over and over and over again. Drops and bad route running killed more drives than the 2 fumbles - which he more than made up for. Missed FGs left points on the field.

ST gave away only 7 points. 10 points gave Aaron by his 2 fumbles...

He played very bad game despite you put some statistics that looks nice. If he throw all of the passes that finished as fumbled or as sack, his completion percentage would be much less...

But, hats of for his help to Mason Crosby. That is how team leaders should act. For that move I say bravo Aaron!

If you want to be more precise, I will tell you that Mason Crosby cost Packers 16 points - 5 missed FG plus 1 point on conversion!

But Packers were in hole 24-0 not because of Crosby, but because Aaron Rodgers was playing badly first half and gave 10 points to the Lions. Plus 7 on ST, that is what dig the hole for Packers...

No AR is not perfect and neither is anyone I know, all the Aaron h8ers would love to pretend he didn't throw 3 TD's but rather threw 3 int's instead of none. And that he threw for 142 yards instead of 442yards. Could Rodgers have played better? Yes I think so but he played well enough had Crosby and the rest of the special teams unit not self destructed the Packers leave Detroit with a win. I believe day or 2 ago I wrote how I love to watch Aaron plays. I like his competitiveness and way of thinking on the football field. But his performance yesterday was so bad that I couldn't believe. He was missing open players, made bad calls, did not recognize blitz well, etc. 2 examples, both on 3rd downs. First, he was rolling on the right and throw the ball high to Jimmy Graham for gain few yards. Jimmy was covered and the ball was little to high. But behind Jimmy was Lance Kendricks few yards behind 1st down marker. Aaron never saw him. Similar situation 2 or 3 possession later. Aaron threw ball in panic to covered Aaron Jones, while he had completely free Davante Adams around 1st down marker, 3-4 yards behind (or in front) of Jones...

I would say nothing if Kendricks and Adams were on the other side of the field, but they were in the same window Aaron was looking, and he panicked and made huge mistakes...

Aaron Rodgers needs help. That is for sure. He did not forget to play, but it looks like, at the beginning of every game he is indecisive and making a lot of mistakes...

Later, when he settles down, he remind us of that GOAT QB we think Packers have.

Croat, with all due respect Kevin King should have not been in that position to be near the ball. A fair catch was waved. King should have either looked for the wave off or listened for ST signal word. IMO, he came out to fight for his position not to play smart.

I agree what you wrote.
But I did not know that referees can blow the turnover based on not smart play from a player. If he touches the ball first, OK. But he did never ever touched that ball. I was clear and I do not know hoe replay office left the call stands. They did not confirmed the call. That is the point!

Guys, as I have written before, this is a transition year for this organization. Mark Murphy, the current Packer President contract runs out after this year. Mike McCarthy's contract ends after this season. Only IAMGUTE has a contract that extends into next year. The Packer executive committee will make the call on a new President and will have final say on the coaching selection. The executive committee was forced into this by the gross mishandling of the GM situation by Murphy. Why? There are press reports that he wanted Russ Ball the Packers cap guy, even if the executive committee had already rejected Ball for the position. IAMGUTE was surprised when in the final contract with the Packers, he did not have final say on personal, that it would have to be bumped up to Murphy. The executive committee step in and overruled Murphy, leading to the current situation. Ted Thompson nor Mike McCarthy is to blame for how this turned out. If Murphy had done his job, then the Packers would have had a new GM a good two years ago. Now, the executive committee has to clean up the mess.

Agreed, the main problem for organizations like the Packers (with no single owner) is accountability. Everyone in the NFL except for Murphy saw Thompson's declining skills and decision-making the last few years. Everyone in the NFL (except for Murphy) has seen McCarthy's stubbornness and over-devotion to his scheme, his coaches and his players over the last few years.

The Packers need new blood from the top down. At this point they'll simply be coasting along in mediocrity as long as the Packers Executive Board allows them to.

I am afraid you and many other fans are missing the point. Most, if not all of the current situation is laid at the feet of Mark Murphy the current Packers President. Why Murphy did not do his job and hire a new GM is an open question for us fans. The executive committee knows, and is taking steps to fix the situation, but will not happen until this season ends. Frankly, no matter what you think of Ted Thompson or Mike McCarthy, they have both been treated badly in the process, and that has hurt the team on the field in the short term. Finally, do not be surprised if McCarthy is rehired with a new contract, The plain facts are as coach, he has done very well by the Packers and the executive committee is well aware of that. Still, it should be IAMGUTE call, if not for the mess Murphy created. We'll see.

Ive been on the MM must go train for at least 3 years. Anyway you slice it his time is up. I dont think he was ever anything above average. Now it seems he has lost his team. They no longer believe in him and his message falls on deaf ears.

His own mishandling of the BH situation last year and his handling of his own coaching staff was reason enough for him to be dismissed.

Thankfully his tenure will end after this season. As for all you who say "who would be better?" I dont know. But its not my job to know either. I had never heard of McVay before he was hired by the Rams either. Id sure like to see him on the Packers side line right now though.

The point is, how are you going to get any better if you dont try?

To echo a previous sentiment, you can't continually bury yourself in big holes and expect to win in the NFL. This offensive system has to be scrapped and replaced with something intelligent; that means more running, more high percentage passes, getting the ball out quicker, and moving the ball in smaller increments instead of always hoping for a big play downfield. It really does seem that AR is totally in charge of this offense and has absolutely no one to answer to. That has to change.

One more thing: that field goal at the end of the game and the compassionate hug gave me the creeps. Yuk!
Just get this game over with and put the ball through the uprights next game, please.

It is possible Bear. I'm wondering if the call would come from Murphy, Gute, Ball, the BODs or all of the above. Something has been wrong with the product on the field and this organization seems top heavy.

I agree the Pack is bad at the moment. Special teams as a whole was terrible and undisciplined. Why would King when a punt is inside the 20 have his back to the ball. Not a chance for a return so why? Defense over all played decent except for undisciplined taunting and face mask penalties. Play calling early was conservative, too many runs and too predictable. No passes to Adams and Graham until late in the first half. What is with that? So many questions. And no offemsive rhythm. MM is the head coach. He needs to get his players and coaches inline to reduce mistakes. And MM needs to understand that this team is not that good and MM needs to be better before the team will.

After today’s game I am genuinely curious to see what happens in GB in the coming weeks. The play this season has been wildly inconsistent (although we seem to have more bad play than good play, especially offensively) - what do we do if the blame for such poor performance lies not just in one area but in multiple facets (coaching, personnel, scheme, etc) of the organization?? Disappointing start to the season so far!

We have re-entered the 1980's. It will take someone with vision and backbone to re-invent this antique offense and field an effective defense. I'm afraid the AR contract will cause even more damage to this team before all is said and done. You simply can't pay one player that much money and expect to field a competitive team.

I understand NOW why 12 and McCarthy are having issues. McCarthy, has no idea how to use a running game and this team has a sea of talent on offense that he cannot use. He is out coached every game. We see what happened when out DC was replaced. Players on defense over the past few seasons were over compensating to keep up with Dom's scheme. New guy comes in with a simple but effective scheme and look..better defense! McCarthy's ability to effectively use his personnel has failed this team yet again. These players are trying to do to much instead of playing to their strengths and play football.

Typical poor game management contest again. Why abandon the run when it was doing so well? Then 3 lost fumbles, countless penalties, poor execution, 4 missed field goals and a missed extra point. Granted one field goal was 56 yards. A 2 point conversion failure. That's a lot of points to leave out there. Another one chalked up to bad play calling and poor game management, and poor execution. Same old same old that needed fixed from game one but has not been fixed. Good way to finish in last place in the division and get another high round first pick in the draft for 2019. If this trend is allowed to continue the Packers are headed for a disastrous season. Absolutely horrible game from start to finish, and poor execution, from top to bottom. Every aspect of the game was horrendous. I've seen no improvement from game one to game five. Same old, same old.

Yes, why can’t Rodgers just play perfect games...

Rodgers keeps plays alive, that’s his style, always has been. But it starts to show that we haven’t given him enough talented weapons who can get open AND who he can trust to catch the ball! We have drafted defense, defense, defense...

Martinez is becoming the “quiet” leader of this defense. He seems to be consistent and the most reliable defensive player we have.

Creativity? MM has to go, right now.

Someone, anyone, explain to me what McCarthy has against Aaron Jones. Team played undisciplined, but has any team had more game changing plays than the Packers? The King touch on Special Teams that wasn't, the barely taunting taunting that is just plain silly, the player not set when all were set... as bad as this team played it was another game where the Packer D and the O, as bad as they played, were much better than the Lions on both sides of the ball... and lost. Crosby had a day to forget but Rodgers has been playing a certain way for some time now and it isn't pretty. For years we all complained about his holding the ball, then he seemed to stop, now he's back at it. Always looking for the big play. All those passing stats?... garbage time when the D playing off the receivers. First halves... he's been truly awful. Need him to play like a QB and need Aaron Jones to at least worry the opposing D about a run. Five weeks is enough time to see where the problems are and McCarthy has to fix them or go back to his Pittsburg bar.

No, no, no, please don't send him back to PA :-) You are correct that he needs to manage games and players much, much, better than he has the first 5 games. I'm clueless as to why he doesn't use Aaron Jones more than 7 to 10 running plays in a game.

Yes, there were many team failures today, but Crosby's were the main factor in this lost game.

I do agree with you. I'm suggesting that Crosby isn't the only reason for the low point totals. Rodgers was as good as he could be but this appeared to be a total offensive failure from the game plan, play calls and execution to the mental mistakes. If your kicker is on the field that many times and it's not at the end of a half then something underlying is seriously wrong.

Over 400yds, 3 TD, 0 INT, QB Rating over 100.
I have been saying this but you really are spoiled brats!
Rodgers was blindsided multiple times and YES then fumbles usually happen... opponents D running free from the blindside. Yes, he didn’t play perfect.

Just another game where we would have needed a nearly perfect game from Rodgers!! And you blame QB. You spoiled brats.

Like it or not... Adams and Rodgers gave us a chance today. The way our special teams and kicker played today... and the way MM used Jones today! Jones must have been hurt?, otherwise there is no excuse... Overall disgusting game plan...

Nothing wrong with having an idol. But the fact remains that Rodgers once again hurt the Packers chances of winning by ignoring open receivers and holding onto the ball far too long on multiple occasions.

Can you give videos where he ignored open receivers? Sure there is some but I would like to see what kind of situations they were. Now you’re just saying he ignored open receivers, did he? And again you are expecting him to be perfect.

Where was our defensive takeovers? Fumbles, interceptions? Where is our special teams great plays? Missing. That’s right.
If something, Rodgers keeps us in games like this. He gives us chance to win bad games like this.

In one fumble situation opponent flew past Bakhtiari... and that is very rare when that happens... I bet Rodgers wasn’t expecting that to happen so fast. Those things happen.

Jones had more carries than any of the other RBs today, even if it was only 7 runs (he also had 2 receptions, all together the most touches).

If I had to field a guess as to why Jones wasn't seen much in the second half, it would be because it was 0-24 to start the 3rd Q and Aaron Jones is the least capable RB in terms of pass protection, and Montgomery offers substantially better pass pro while also having the ability to split out and run routes if needed. There probably wasnt going to be a lot of running in the second half.

we would habe needed just a normal game from AR. nothing else. maybe getting rid of the ball faster and finding the free guy, no matter who it is. and there were a lot of free guys today. be not that bad in the red zone would help too..........

we had a good D, and a good running game. he had a lot of weapons and the rookies played not that bad.

But you are always watching the games different, funny as you are.
