Elgton Jenkins expected to start at left guard vs Broncos

The second round pick out of Mississippi State had been in competition for the starting spot throughout training camp

With starting left guard Lane Taylor dealing with a biceps injury, Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur indcated on Friday that rookie Elgton Jenkins will most likely get the start on Sunday when the Denver Broncos come to town.

The second round pick out of Mississippi State had been in competition for the starting spot throughout training camp until Taylor was named the starter prior to the season.

However, Jenkins has continued to get work in games, including 18 snaps versus the Vikings last Sunday.

Jenkins is the future. I’m fairly sure he’s going to be a vast improvement. This will allow the OL to be solidified.

So I agree, he is the future. He's a rookie, and it has to start somewhere! Hope he's up to the challenge because this is a mauling defensive front. If he has a crappy game it could be disastrous. GB does not play this team very well. I'm thinking this is a brawling game, hope we can stay healthy.

How did Bhaktiari, Bulaga, Clifton, Tauscher, Sitton etc fair starting as rookies?

Gute doesn't mess around as GM... He seems decisive & focused.
Looks like MLF is the same.... Both are a breath of fresh air after the staleness of the last regime.

Packer brass to Taylor: " You feeling OK"

Taylor: "Sure"

Packer brass: "Looks like you might have a biceps problem there"

Taylor: "Hmmm, OK"

It was meant to be facetious, something you didn't seem to comprehend.

Packers “We’re putting you on IR”. Taylor. “Uh, ok? I still get paid, right?”

If you can't do the job, make room for someone who can! I love it that Gute is taking that approach.

Hopefully he applies the same approach to TE psition. No sacred cows or he'll lose his credibility. Jimmy G better produce or be moved, one way or the other, by the bye week.

I think they promoted Baylis from the PS this week because a move is coming for Graham. Thanks, Since ‘61

Graham is producing... he has more TDs than Adams so far this season. 1 TD in 2 games is good for any TE in this league. Is he what he was in NO? No... of course not. But to say he isn't producing when he has more TDs than most of our WR's is not correct.

Starting Jenkins is the right move. Taylor can provide good depth if needed and we may need help there if Turner does not improve reasonably soon. Thanks, Since ‘61

" it felt like Christmas had arrived early. '

That's exactly how I felt. A blowout against the Vikes! Maybe this week . Lambeau deserves it.

I'm glad to see it and hope its entirely because they see Jenkins as the best option at this time. He's been impressive run blocking.

BTW, its been reported that Graham has a groin injury.

Jenkins is the future and the present. Taylor to IR. Pankey resigned to replace him and back up Jenkins. Great move.

I thought that Taylor was a good stopgap when Sitton was cut. He does have value in the offense but it looks like we have a good (if not better) replacement for him. I wonder how much his injuries have lingered these last couple of years. Life on the line is tough and you see it throughout the league with many teams switching around their players at that spot.

I tip my hat to Lane Taylor. He’s given stability and a ton of effort since his promotion. I hope his injury isn’t significant or career-threatening.

And, this being said, Elgton Jenkins is the better player. Today and into the future. This kid is a stud. I am excited to see how he meets this challenge.

The icing on the cake, for me, is getting Pankey onto the active roster. A place I felt he deserved at the cuts to 53.

Today is a tough day for Lane Taylor but a good day for the Packers.
