GB blew the "Trade of the Century" that could have set us up for the next 10 years. Granted we still would have had to capitalize on the extra picks, and our track record with Day 1 & 2 picks hasn't been that good.

The picks were great on their own, even though I do think we would have got more for the MVP. But the players that were thrown in made this trade other worldly.
Noah Fant-TE was a first round pick in 2019 from my Hawkeyes and I think GB was TE poor at that point.

Drew Locke was picked @ #42 that same year. He could have competed with Love for the starting job. Locke threw for 12193 yard, 99 TDs 39 Ints in his 4 years @ Missouri. About 60% completion rate. My Hawkeyes played Locke in the bowl game in 2019 and he went off for 500 yards against our very good defense. Shelby Harris was a throw in too.

Yes, they did. Even at the time, there were several posters who were saying that keeping Rodgers around was desperation, hoping he'd catch fire and carry the team to a SB, like he did in 2010. They could have had a lot of draft picks and a couple of players who would have been, at minimum, quality backups. Yes, there would have been a painful transition to Love. But sometimes you have to take a step back to take several strides forward. Instead (and stop me if you've heard this one before) they decided to "stay the course" and bring back the same team that had steadily gotten further from the SB since the first two years of LaFleur's hiring.
Water under the bridge, but not 20/20 hindsight, because some of us were demanding the trade, and looking forward to a brighter future.
Oh well.

in retrospect If there was any possible way Gute would have a chance to trade Rodgers to Denver, for two first-round picks, two second-round picks, a fifth-round pick, and three players (Drew Lock, Shelby Harris, and Noah Fant (which the Broncos gave for Russell Wilson) it would be AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN done faster than a FLASH!

It wasn't a year too late, it was 3 years too late, when Rodgers asked for a trade in '20.
They still could have gotten a kings ransom for him after the '21 season. (See San Fran)

But i've said this ad nauseum since 2020.
The same as i said about getting a Kings ransom for Favre after the 2005 season.

I understand hindsight, but....
If those two trades happened at those times, the Packers would have avoided a whole lotta drama.
Not to mention sparing themselves of displaying some embarrassing mismanagement.

The other question to ask is what year did we resign Rodgers to a new contract, how much was it for and how much dead money was there that we ate when finally moved to the Jets.

By the end of the 2014 season, as the Debacle in Seattle showed, Rodgers no longer had the super bowl mojo. Same with McCarthy. Both had become too timid to challenge the elite defenses they inevitably faced in the playoffs. The Packers should have unloaded Rodgers and dumped McCarthy in Spring 2015. TT lost it around that time, too. The team needed a reset, but Murf just let it all slide until they couldn’t hide TT anymore.

At this point in time......WHO CARES?
