Crumpler Makes Sense

With the release of Bubba Franks, (which was the right move) the Packers are in the market for a tight end, if not two.

According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, (Hat tip: Railbird) Alge Crumpler, recently released by the Falcons, will be meeting with a plethora of teams this weekend in Indianapolis at the Combine, since 98% of the league's front offices are there anyway.

Despite some injury issues last season, Crumpler would be an excellent addition to the Packers offense. What he lacks in blocking ability he more than makes up for in his ability to get down the middle the field and expose the Tampa 2 defense that the Packers see whenever they play Chicago, Detroit and Minnesota. It's a defense that has given Favre and the West Coast Offense fits over the years, and Crumpler in tandem with Donald Lee would be a great counter punch.

While there are a great number of teams going after him, Crumpler indicates that he wants to play for a winner. Of the seven teams he lists that he'll be meeting with, only Seattle, Tampa Bay and Green Bay made the playoffs last year, with Green Bay obviously being the best of the bunch. We'll see.

as Chris Havel said yesterday- Crumpler can get thick around the middle. Is he ready to play?
