Castonzo Packers Connection, Take Two

Boston College offensive lineman Anthony Castonzo is training with former Packers coach Tom Lovat in preparation for the NFL Draft.

Yesterday we mentioned how a Packers scout briefly interviewed Boston College offensive lineman Anthony Castonzo while at the Senior Bowl this week in Mobile, Ala. and how it makes sense to keep track of him as a possible target of Green Bay simply because of where he is projected to come off the board.

Today comes news from a familiar face about another Packers connection to Castonzo. Former Packers beat writer and current Boston Globe NFL reporter Greg Bedard writes:

Boston College OT Anthony Costanzo said he’s been working with respected offensive line coach Tom Lovat (Packers, Seahawks among others) while training with IMG in Sarasota, Fla. It has helped him as several scouts think his feet have been better than what he showed during the season. Lovat helped Bryan Bulaga before he was picked by the Packers late in the first round last year. Costanzo worked some at guard today and wasn’t sharp.

As the story goes, Lovat – who is the father of current Packers strength and conditioning coach Mark Lovat – gave his son and Packers offensive line coach James Campen a recommendation to draft Bulaga.

With 32 teams involved on draft day, there's no telling where Castonzo may eventually land. But it's a storyline worth following.

Castonzo is probably my #1 target, slightly ahead of Justin Houston. Get this guy and we're set at OT for the next 10 years, AGAIN.

As long as the Packers get a good tackle out of the draft, I will be happy.

Is this guy related to 'George Castonzo' from "Seinfeld" ? ..... It'd be great to have a Seinfeld connection on the team especially if he had a sense of humor .... Keep the locker room loose .....

I guess that we're out of the Gabe Carimi sweepstakes. Too bad, I would have liked to see another Badger on the O line.
