Andrew Quarless Reportedly Being Placed On Injured Reserve
The veteran tight end has been battling a knee injury since coming back from a severe ankle injury earlier in the year.
By PackerAaron
Andrew Quarless' season has come to an abrupt end, according to the veteran tight end.
While Quarless did not give a reason, it would seem, according to our friends on the beat, that Quarless is being placed on injured reserve.
Source said Quarless wasn't cut or suspended. Looks like he may have been put on injured reserve due to injuries. https://t.co/1NeCkMzJkX

I can tell you the Quarless move is injury-related. Will have more shortly on https://t.co/LfG3qW2TGU

Quarless has been listed on the injury report with a knee injury.
No word yet on a corresponding move, but one would think the Packers are probably going to elevate wide receiver Ed Williams off the practice squad.
#Packers' plan is to put Andrew Quarless on injured reserve. Opens up a roster spot for a WR, possibly Ed Williams from the practice squad.

Know what you mean. We have basically 1 1/2 TEs and that's on a good day. TE is like S and ILB positions that we take far too long to fill.

Other option is that Packers will promote Mitchell Henry, TE, from PS, not Ed Williams!

I was mentioning this on twitter last night after I saw the news. They could be possibly bringing up Henry.
Henry was brought along on a couple of road games for being one of the top PS players.
I could definitely see Henry being the guy moving up.

Unfortunate for Quarless - it may be his last game as a Packer. I don't know that it leaves us any worse off. Other than one game, there has been little production from the position for about three years.

That's where losing Jordy has really hurt. He covered up for us not really having a passing threat TE for all this time. As unreliable as Finley was, he was a threat that other teams had to account for. We miss that and I wonder how we have done so well without one. We have to have one next year. I think it's our first priority. OL being possibly the only exception as we have gotten by with mediocre ILB well enough. It's too much pressure on O not to have a TE against top teams. Oh well, on to Arizona, we can do it.

Agreed that Jordy's injury exposed several areas that need to be upgraded on the offense. However, I don't agree with all the press that Finley being accounted for opened things up for the WR's. A look back shows that the Packers ran the table on the road in the playoffs and won the Super Bowl without Finley (played only the first 5 games of the year) which meant a TE on his last legs (Donald Lee) and a rookie (Quarless) had to carry the load. With that being the case they convincingly beat the Steelers to win it all. A tight end like the kid from Alabama (based on his size/speed ratio) would be a welcome edition next year but Ted may have other priorities.

Excellent point about the Super Bowl year. It was because of that year that I thought Quarless would only get better but it didn't happen that way. Even now I thought he would be healthy this year. But at the same time we were really loaded at WR in 2010. As for Ted, I hope it is at the top of the list. Who knows if Jordy will be fully back and if the other WRs improve. Just goes to prove you can not have enough starting WR talent on a team built around the pass like ours.

Thanks Tundraboy. I had high hopes for Quarless also but the prior knee injury was severe and it looks like he has never gotten back to his original form, too bad, he had some good measurables coming out of college. It would be nice to get another Bubba Franks, great size, a red zone TD machine, and solid blocker - those guys are hard to find. Bubba also was a real team player. being at the games I noticed several times when they would spring a long run and Bubba would be jumping up and down like a rookie in his first game as he watched the play getting up after a block. Donald Lee was more limited but just as much a team player, both he and Bubba were always smiling (attitudes like that are contagious). Lets hope for an upset Saturday night.

Yes upset would be great. Not ready for season to end, besides if we get to the NFCCG this year after all that's happened, that would be a great accomplishment in itself. As I type this I realize hell if we get that far, we could beat anybody and run the table. Enjoy the game.

It is not at all clear to me that Quarless is actually injured. He played 14 snaps against Washington. He might be injured, but I suspect that he was simply ineffective and GB needs a WR (or better, Mitchell Henry).

Injured -- ineffective...same thing when it comes to the Pack's philosophy.
I had high hopes for him and the Offense when he returned from his initial injury. Sucks.
I bet Ted and MM don't overlook this position next draft. The same can be said for LB (Inside and Outside).

God's Gifts has more than likely played his last snap as a Packer. Tough year for him. I wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors.

Is Mitchell Henry any good? Can he block? Don't see him playing in a game of this magnitude.

Is he still on someone's PS? I thought we lost him to someone's 53???

Also, is there any recent film on him at all? I can't find anything after 2010.

What about that Kennard Backman ? I wonder if he can block and catch?
lou

Backman looked like he had some receiving ability in the practices I watched this Summer as did Henry. Backman sealed his fate this year with poor special teams play. I believe the first game he was active he had a LATE block in the back on a kick return and McCarthy went right to him when he came off the field. His next time active he was the contain man on the right side when they ran the fake punt - they can't afford to let him play special teams much yet offense yet. Next year he gets another chance.
