45-Man Gameday Roster Prediction Vs. Jets

Ryan Pickett and Mark Tauscher are predicted to be inactive for Sunday's game against the Jets. On the flip side, Cullen Jenkins is predicted to play.

Below is the Packers entire roster. Players in bold text are those I predict to be inactive on Sunday against the New York Jets:

  • QB: Aaron Rodgers, Matt Flynn
  • RB: Brandon Jackson, Dimitri Nance
  • FB: Korey Hall, John Kuhn, Quinn Johnson
  • WR: Greg Jennings, Donald Driver, James Jones, Jordy Nelson, Brett Swain
  • TE: Donald Lee, Tom Crabtree, Andrew Quarless
  • OL: Chad Clifton, Mark Tauscher, Daryn Colledge, Josh Sitton, Scott Wells, Bryan Bulaga, Jason Spitz, T.J. Lang, Nick McDonald, Marshall Newhouse
  • DL: Cullen Jenkins, B.J. Raji, Ryan Pickett, C.J. Wilson, Jarius Wynn, Michael Montgomery, Howard Green
  • ILB: A.J. Hawk, Brandon Chillar, Desmond Bishop, Matt Wilhelm
  • OLB: Clay Matthews, Frank Zombo, Robert Francois, Diyral Briggs, Eric Walden
  • CB: Charles Woodson, Tramon Williams, Sam Shields, Pat Lee, Brandon Underwood
  • S: Nick Collins, Charlie Peprah, Jarrett Bush, Anthony Smith
  • ST: Mason Crosby, Brett Goode, Tim Masthay

Notes:

  • The Packers did not make any roster moves on Saturday so it's already guaranteed Atari Bigby, Al Harris and James Starks won't play this weekend.
  • Because of the progress Cullen Jenkins made on Friday during practice, I think he'll be active and he'll play a limited amount of snaps. Although I imagine they'll keep Ryan Pickett inactive for this weekend, just to play it safe. If for whatever reason they decide to keep Jenkins inactive, Michael Montgomery would probably take his place on the 45-man roster.
  • Once again, Mark Tauscher could probably play if he had to, but with the way Bryan Bulaga is playing, there's no need to take a risk. The Packers have only kept seven offensive linemen active on game days every game so far this season, and Sunday will be no exception with Tauscher, Marshall Newhouse and Nick McDonald relegated to the sidelines.
  • I think one of the active spots will come down to newly acquired outside linebackers Diyral Briggs and Eric Walden. My prediction is Briggs because he's listed ahead of Walden on depth chart on the Packers official website (that's all I have to go on at this early juncture). Although if you're to believe this article by Bob McGinn of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, scouts think Walden is the better player.
  • Had Dimitri Nance not been added to the injury report, I think he would have been active ahead of cornerback Brandon Underwood. But now roles are reversed. Underwood will probably play and Nance will rest.

I'm going to guess Walden will play because he is better in special teams.

They probably didn't make a roster move for Harris and Bigby because they figure on having some open space after playing another game. (or I bet that isn't as big a need now and special teams is more of a factor). I hope we can make one game without injury. I am a big fan of Harris, but Tramon and Sam Shields have been playing well.

I'm pretty anxious to see Howard Green this week. I know he has had next to no practice time, but just to see how he moves...how he can (or can't) hold the LOS or push the pocket. He could be a really interesting pick up for us.

In a way I'm glad Harris and Bigby aren't playing yet. The way players have been getting hurt and the season only getting harder, It feels kinda good knowing we have some healthy backup veterans in the lineup. If we can hang tough until the season really needs them, that's OK.

The Packers' inactives are linebacker Diyral Briggs, fullback Quinn Johnson, guard Nick McDonald, running back Dimitri Nance, tackle Marshall Newhouse, defensive end Ryan Pickett, tackle Mark Tauscher and cornerback Brandon Underwood.

Well, it looks like Eric Walden and Mike Montgomery are "in" instead of Diyral Briggs and Brandon Underwood.

Anybody think that Quinn Johnson and Brandon Underwood get the axe, when others get activated ?

In other news .......

"The Green Bay Packers brought in an old friend on Friday, with tight end/linebacker/special-teamer Spencer Havner taking a physical. "

" A source told Packer Report that Havner is a week or two away from being 100 percent. The Packers are among a handful of teams who have shown interest in the versatile Havner. He caught four touchdown passes in the regular season in 2009. "
