45-Man Gameday Roster Prediction At Vikings

Rookie running back James Starks is predicted to be inactive for the Packers game at Minnesota on Sunday.

Below is the Packers entire roster. Players in bold text are those I predict to be inactive on Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings:

  • QB: Aaron Rodgers, Matt Flynn
  • RB: Brandon Jackson, Dimitri Nance, James Starks
  • FB: Korey Hall, John Kuhn, Quinn Johnson
  • WR: Greg Jennings, Donald Driver, James Jones, Jordy Nelson, Brett Swain
  • TE: Donald Lee, Tom Crabtree, Andrew Quarless, Spencer Havner
  • OL: Chad Clifton, Daryn Colledge, Josh Sitton, Scott Wells, Bryan Bulaga, Jason Spitz, T.J. Lang, Nick McDonald, Marshall Newhouse
  • DL: Cullen Jenkins, B.J. Raji, Ryan Pickett, C.J. Wilson, Jarius Wynn, Howard Green
  • ILB: A.J. Hawk, Brandon Chillar, Desmond Bishop, Matt Wilhelm
  • OLB: Clay Matthews, Frank Zombo, Diyral Briggs, Eric Walden
  • CB: Charles Woodson, Tramon Williams, Sam Shields, Pat Lee, Brandon Underwood
  • S: Nick Collins, Charlie Peprah, Jarrett Bush, Anthony Smith, Atari Bigby
  • ST: Mason Crosby, Brett Goode, Tim Masthay

Notes:

  • Seeing as the Packers are the healthiest they've been in a long time, this will be a very telling week where players stand in the pecking order.
  • My hardest decision was to make Donald Lee inactive. He has the least special teams value among tight ends among him, Tom Crabtree and Spencer Havner. And he doesn't have the offensive value of an Andrew Quarless. I could be wrong, but I see at least one tight end inactive on Sunday.
  • I can see James Starks being active in the future, I just don't see it happening on Sunday. Dimitri Nance gets the nod ahead of Starks.
  • Because Korey Hall's back locked up on him on Thursday, and he missed practice Friday, it's a long shot that he'll play against the Vikings. Quinn Johnson will be active in his place.
  • A choice probably has to be made between Pat Lee and Brandon Underwood. Lee was ahead of Underwood on the depth chart prior to being injured. But seeing as Lee hurt his ankle just weeks ago, I think they give him an extra week to fully recover.
  • With Brandon Chillar being back and healthy, it's less important for Matt Wilhelm to be active as well.
  • Jarius Wynn wasn't active against the Cowboys. I don't think he'll be active against the Vikings unless for some reason Ryan Pickett doesn't go. Even then Wynn still may not be active.
  • Marshall Newhouse and Nick McDonald were obvious choices. They haven't been active all season and probably won't be unless there's an injury ahead of them.

Wow...I saw Donald Lee and thought "yeah, right." Well, now looking over the list, that just might be the case. If I had to guess, I'd guess that Walden or Briggs may take that spot instead, but it's close.

I to think D. Lee has to be inactive. You go with Quarless for the pass catching ability, Crabtree for the blocking and Havner for special teams and red zone offense.

Under Mike McCarthy, the Packers are 9-3 in domed stadiums, with the offense scoring a touchdown more per game than when outside.

No way Donald Lee is not active for the game ...... Starks instead of Nance .....

I would be surprised if Lee is inactive. You dont go with 2 Rookies and a special teams and goal line TE against the Vikings at home. No way. 5 Safeties? Really?

Two of those 5 safeties really aren't being played in that position, though. They're ST guys... something to keep in mind.

I think Starks will be active in a couple of weeks. Give him more practice reps before he gets any touches in a game. Maybe active @home vs the 49ers.

The way that McCarthy likes to use TEs is very specialized and I think that they keep as many as they can. In my opinion, McCarthy's offense just doesnt work without a heavy TE rotation and I think Lee will play.

I would say Anthony Smith or Jarrett Bush will be inactive instead. I could be wrong because with that many TEs it kind of hurts the speed on the Special Teams but since when does McCarthy make sacrifices on offense to benefit the Special Teams?

No way Bush is inactive. He is our best special teams player
