I am very concerned about this game because GB has many things to clean up.
1.) They've lost a total of 21 points due to penalties after scoring a TD. They lost 7 pts fumble in endzone and 6 pts from 2 missed FG's that's 34 points for a total of 79 pts or 39.5 ppg if they didn't shoot themselves in the foot and the second highest scoring team in the NFL.
2.) Run defense is relinquishing 5.1 YPC. They need to prove today they can stop the run from the RB's not just the QB. Pollard is an average starting RB not an elite RB. No excuse for him to have over 100 yds rushing and or over 4.3 YPC and no 15+ yd gains.
3.) Pass rush: Levis is the worst QB vs the pass rush in the NFL per QB rating. They need to limit containment and get to Levis early and often.
4.) Shutdown the best receiver for the Titans in Calvin is done by press man coverage as he's terrible vs press man coverage.
5.) No fumbles by Jacobs or anyone and no drops by the receivers and Malik Magic playing a clean game again. Packers lead the NFL in fumbles on offense and that's a trend they must stop ASAP.
6.) K must make all kicks this time.
7.) Limit penalties especially TD killing penalties or penalties that gift the opp with TD's.
8.) Roll Malik out of the pocket for passes.
9.) Triple option runs on offense for a new wrinkle.
10.) Use plays that Malik is 100% comfortable qith.

I listen to The Game during the week, mostly Kuhn at 9-noon.
All week long the focus was on Love...will he play, won't he play, will he not play. Mostly based on the wording that MLF uses during his pressers.
This was stated as a 3-6 week injury.
I'm not sure why, but MLF seems to be thoroughly enjoying playing games with the media about Loves injury.
Personally, i can't wait for Love to be back playing, so we can dispense of all this LaFleur ego boosting non sensical hyped fodder and get back to talking about....football.
*
As far as the Titans go, like last week, i think it has all to do with the rushing attack and hopefully (i predict)....P. Smith and Rashan Gary will show up this week and contribute against the Titans weak front.

You can count on GB being offsides at least 3 times a game on defense. That's 2 offsides already one cost them a first doqn and another cost them a TD. Stop beating yourself you idiots. Ten is going to try to run to put some relief on their QB. You have to stop the damn run.
Leatherhead
September 22, 2024 at 12:51 pm
You do not have to stop the run. The Packers ran 21 times for 168 yards in the opener, and lost.
Stopping the pass is more important
bossofallbosses
September 22, 2024 at 12:57 pm

Leatherhead
September 22, 2024 at 03:06 pm
You're a new guy here, so I'll share this.
7 > 5.
What does that mean? It means that the average passing ATTEMPT is 7 yards.(Levis, today, at 7.6). A GOOD rushing attempt is 5 yards. And 7 is more than 5. 7>5. Tennessee rushed 11 times for 33 yards, 3 yards/attempt. Why so few rushes? Because they were behind.
You think we should encourage them to pass, where they're getting 7.6 yards on average, instead of encouraging them to run for 3.0 yards/attempt. Why?

If you want me to be wrong, that's fine... But I'm right.
I think it's a testimony to how nice everyone is being to Malik Willis, but at the end of the day, all the analysts are telling you exactly what I'm telling you, with softer language. "QBing with guard rails", "Don't have to do it by yourself", "Setting him up for success" yada, yada, yada.
If you'd just watch the film critically, you'd understand. He does not read the field. I don't know what to tell you. It's an issue with all of his game tape his entire career..He locks onto the primary receiver. His efficiency for GB is a testament to an abnormally high percent of very short yardage, quick hitter throws- many behind the LOS- and a corps of WRs who are kicking ass with downfield blocking for Jayden Reed.
Malik Willis has done a very good job with what he's been asked to do. MLF has crafted a fantastic game plan to put him in position to succeed- and that means a gameplan that shields him from his weaknesses.. like reading the field and running through his options. There's a reason we're not seeing all the WRs getting targets like we're used to seeing.
Play selection over the last two games:
Run/Pass: 90/33
73.2% Run to 26.8% Pass.
Malik Willis is Samkon Gado. Great story. Enjoying success right now.
Malik has a great arm. He's a dangerous runner. Missing the connective tissue that makes an NFL QB an NFL QB.
Bitternotsour
September 22, 2024 at 04:28 pm
but you can't quit digging.
Malik Willis is an NFL quarterback. He's 2-0.
You seem to type well, I know you claim to have reviewed film, but there's something happening between your vision and what you claim to see... perhaps you're missing some connective tissue between input and output that makes for a reliable evaluator.

Oppy
September 22, 2024 at 03:32 pm
He's great if you don't need him to run an NFL offense.
Limit his responsibilities and hide his deficiencies, and he's efficient.
The missed TD opportunity to a wide open Malik Heath in the back left of the endzone is an example. He doesn't read the entire field. He rarely looks away from a primary read.
He's got an arm, he's got the feet. He doesn't have great pocket presence and he's poor at going through progressions. You'll notice the only time he every really looks at 2nd or 3rd options on the field is if they are all in the same zone in front of him. He has almost no lateral scanning ability.
As I put it the other day.. If a college mathematician struggles when he takes his calculus exam one week, but then the next week he does very well on a basic exam of addition and subtraction- did he greatly improve? Is he a good mathematician? Or, do you just lower the difficulty of the exam to match his level of competence?

I'm really clear on my take on this.
Willis lacks basic QB skills.
There's a reason the Packers are running the ball over 73% of the time with Willis at QB.
You have to be able to read the entire field and scan through your progressions to be a viable NFL QB.
I'm ecstatic that MLF, the offense, and defense have been able to put Willis in a position to help the team win without Love. You are fooling yourself if you think this is a sustainable way to operate.
He's the backup, you'll say. Yeah, and NFL teams want a backup who can run the offense as designed without having to wildly change anything if the starter goes down. Willis is not that guy.
The end.

Actually, NFL teams want a backup who can keep the team in contention while QB1 is out. It's not supposed to be "sustainable" because he's the backup until QB1 comes back. Malik Willis did that by any metric you want to use.
They're 2-0 with Willis as the backup.

September 22, 2024 at 04:59 pm
Okay, the team should totally practice each week with both a gameplan for Love AND a gameplan for Willis, just in case Love goes down. That's what NFL teams want, because that's totally manageable. Got it.
Look man, it is what it is. All of you can dislike it. We can all swing back around in 2 years and compare notes. I watch Packers fans go on about how great so-n-so backup QB is all the time.. and I try to point out why they should maybe pump the breaks, and they react just like you're reacting now. Willis literally lacks basic QB skills that expected to be in the tool set at this level. MLF is scheming around it like a mad scientist, and Willis has done a great job doing exactly what he's been tasked with.. He's got a ton of very enticing qualities.. unfortunately, he lacks some pretty important basic skills, too.

Refs only care if it's the DB using their hands apparently.
Need to stop the passes over the middle. At this point only a Quay injury can help them as he's a major liability at this point.

Didn't expect a runaway win.. that's a nice treat.
TEN looked completely defeated for much of the second half.
MLF and the WRs are doing such a great job that a lot of people are mistaking Willis for a good QB.
I'm starting to wonder if part of Hafley's '2 things required are aggression and effort' pitch, is also
"I don't care about penalties".. but overall, we're seeing some nice things from the defense, just missing the consistency. Let's see what it looks like in week 8.
LBs are the weak spot, and Quay Walker looks lost at times.
Would someone please knit Rasheed Walker some mittens?
Good team win, lots of positives to take forward, lots of room for improvement, let's see if Love is ready to go next week. Can't wait to see what this offense could look like with the ground game tuned, and all the other WRs not named Reed actually being utilized in a legitmate passing attack.

You are right about Willis not going through his reads. If the first guy isn't open he's either running it or taking a sack. I haven't given up on him getting better at this, though. And at this point we can at least say that he is an excellent backup QB for Matt LaFleur's offense. I'm glad we have him after watching the likes of Brett Hundley and Scott Tolzien in recent years.
Oppy
September 22, 2024 at 04:48 pm
Greg,
thanks for taking the time to actually watch carefully with an open mind and see for yourself.
I am beyond thrilled with the results we've had from Willis, but you need to understand that Hundley and Tolzien- and Pratt and Clifford- and all the other backups we've had over the years- they were all asked to do a lot more with the offense than MLF has asked Malik Willis to do.
The job MLF has done is extraordinary, and Willis deserves credit for doing what he's been tasked with well. HOWEVER, it has required very special game planning and a drastic change in the offense's overall balance to facilitate this success with Willis at QB. That does not make for a excellent backup QB situation.
People will say it's because he's new. Well, yeah.. He's new and doesn't know the playbook, 100% true. But his career tape shows that he's always had issues reading defenses and going through his progression. He just doesn't do it. Knowing the playbook doesn't seem like it would change anything, as he knew the playbook at liberty and he knew the playbook in Tennessee and it was still much of the same.

September 22, 2024 at 03:58 pm
Well that was actually fun to watch.
Sure looking like giving up a 7th rounder for Malik Willis was a very smart trade. He is very quick and shifty when forced to run or designed to run. The thing I liked about his reports was that he a smart individual. Not experienced NFL wisdom smart (yet) but Wonderlic smart. Big plus in learning a new system and picking up the playbook. Seems like he was trusted to throw more from last week to this week and his throws were pretty darn good for the most part. What a difference for him to come from an obviously dysfunctional system to much better coached (Clements) system. Green Bay has a competent back up.
Hey how about Narveson. Perfect* on the day. (Before the corrections and downvotes come, that's a joke there.)
Discipline is still really needed. Way too many penalties, especially for just plain stupid shit. How about play through the whistle and then you can goof off and flex after a good play and not before, while someone else is recovering the fumble you created.
On how many of those runs did anyone find themselves thinking, Dillon would have never got that many yards out of that? Who didn't like Dillon as a Packer but really, it all probably worked out for the best that the Packers didn't have to keep him around. The run game has improved.
Minnesota should be interesting.

In your face Joe Barry!!!!!!
Game ball to DC Hafley. Wow!
"The Packers defense created eight sacks for -56 yards, allowed only 33 rushing yards, created three takeaways and scored a touchdown. The Titans averaged 4.5 yards per play, had just two scoring drives on 11 possessions and finished 3-for-10 on third or fourth down. This was a dominant performance from Jeff Hafley’s defense."

I agree that the penalties and mistakes should be cleaned up. But, this game coupled with last week deserve appreciation! They are human beings and mistakes do happen. Especially to the youngest team in the NFL with a backup quarterback.
1- Gutey and Lafleur with a special shout out to Clements deserve big time appreciation! Willis, Xavior, Haffley, Narvdog, Jacobs and the last 2 drafts have changed the future for the Pack for the better for years to come.
2 - I appreciate the aggressive attacking defense even if it gives up a play here and there. 7 picks and I believe 8 sacks today and allowing 14 points at most is a welcome sight.
3 - For all of you casual and fantasy football fans who are disappointed with our WRs you are missing how special our WRs are. For a position famous for whining give me the dam ball. This group blocks their ass off all day! If you watch the game every time we get a runner past the line of scrimmage you will see our receivers getting their teammates additional yards with great blocking. I will take unselfish team players like that every time!
