Quick Hits Lions

Yeah I know, I have been slacking lately. With the holiday, and the end of another semester, time has been a valuable commodity. Yet better late than never, here are your quick hits from Thursday's game against the Lions.

Quick Hits

Can the Packers ever start a game on a positive note? Maybe we just wanted to spot them some points to make it a game.

Can we all agree James Jones is better than Jordy Nelson?

What's up with the offensive line. You completely blow for eight weeks and all of a sudden things are "fixed?" Is pad level really an non-issue now? It's certainly baffling.

If that's the case, let's focus on penalties. Still too many, although better.

Tramon Williams played pretty decent.

Jarrett Bush sucks. He makes that pick and I might have left this out.

Nick Collins has totally elevated his game.

Charles Woodson is "the game."

Atari Bigby should star in a remake of the Invisible Man when he retires. Although in his defense, you aren't hearing his name called either way.

I'll join the Aaron Nagler hate club right now. Losing Kampman may be a blessing in disguise. Good luck next year Kamp, hopefully in the AFC.

Why on god's green earth can we not stop a kickoff return?

Mason Crossbars is officially not one of my "favorite guys" any longer.

I read an analysis somewhere that said Aaron Rodgers was playing good, but hadn't really attributed to the 2-3 more wins the season. Are you frickin' kiddin' me? No way he doesn't make the top 10 list at quarterback right now.

Still not on the Grant bandwagon. No consistency. At one point he makes a beautiful cut back run, and then it's back to the old Ryan Grant again. It was nice to see him on a couple of screens, but he couldn't get it done in the second half.

That was a cheap shot on Finley. I don't know why the Packers didn't let him have any payback. No doubt though, Finley is going to be a stud. That is, when he doesn't drop passes in the endzone.

I would rather be on the 20 than the 10. We would score a lot more. Seriously.

The linebackers had a nice game minus Poppinga who still sucks.

I watched the game while wading through family and a bazillion kids, so I missed some of the finer details that should be included in a more "Nagleresque" analysis. What was blatantly obvious was one thing: Charles Woodson. The man is literally taking over games. His stats coming away from this victory would make some guys happy as a grand total for the season.

I am pretty content at 7-4. If this team can continue to not beat themselves, they might have a shot.

"Can we all agree James Jones is better than Jordy Nelson?" No.

"I would rather be on the 20 than the 10. We would score a lot more. Seriously." Agreed.

"Nick Collins has totally elevated his game." Getting Bigby back allows him more freedom back there.

"Why on god’s green earth can we not stop a kickoff return?" Lack of discipline - lane responsibilities.

"That was a cheap shot on Finley. I don’t know why the Packers didn’t let him have any payback." Not a lot of opportunities to do so with a DB.

"I am pretty content at 7-4." Hell yes. But let's not delude ourselves. Ravens will be tough. Teams they have lost to have a combined record of 40-10.

Come on Alex, do you really think for one second Finley would retaliate against the LIONS.

I am sure Finley at first wanted to, but then he remembered that this was the LIONS.

I'll take an invisible Atari Bigby any day, as long as Nick Collins is making plays back there. Aaron Rouse and Derrick Martin were all-too-visible when they filled in for Bigby.

I was really happy with the O-line, especially considering that they gave up five or six sacks the last time they played the Lions, and that was in Green Bay. Only one penalty too, by my count--a false start on Colledge.

I think Ryan Grant is getting better at catching passes and gaining yardage after the catch. He must be working a lot on that aspect of his game.

I agree that the Packers do better from the 20 than from the 10. I still don't see a reason for it, though, so I continue to think that their red zone performance will improve. For all of Finley's bragging before the season, he has been a non-factor in the red zone. He's the guy that we really need to step up, and I think he will.

I'm not content with 7-4, as I think the Packers should be 9-2, or at least 8-3, at this point in the season, but considering where they were three weeks ago I'll take it, I'll take it.

Did you see that forced fumble on the five wide? Wasn't paying attention to what happened any other time.

"Can the Packers ever start a game on a positive note? Maybe we just wanted to spot them some points to make it a game." Agreed

"Can we all agree James Jones is better than Jordy Nelson?" Eh... NO. He's our best blocking WR, and the strongest WR we have. Nelson, that is.

"What’s up with the offensive line. You completely blow for eight weeks and all of a sudden things are “fixed?” Is pad level really an non-issue now? It’s certainly baffling." I'm beggining to think that Barbre is the source of all that was bad with this OL. He made all the OL worry about him.

"If that’s the case, let’s focus on penalties. Still too many, although better." Agreed

"Tramon Williams played pretty decent." OH. Tramon has played his best game. Way to step up!

"Jarrett Bush sucks. He makes that pick and I might have left this out." He's just terrible. I'm tired of talking about him. If he ever makes a nice play, I'll recognize it. But that doesn't seem probable.

"Nick Collins has totally elevated his game." YEP.

Charles Woodson is “the game.” YEP.

"Atari Bigby should star in a remake of the Invisible Man when he retires. Although in his defense, you aren’t hearing his name called either way." Like others have said, he's not compromising, like the others. I'll take that. For now.

"I’ll join the Aaron Nagler hate club right now. Losing Kampman may be a blessing in disguise. Good luck next year Kamp, hopefully in the AFC." I wouldn't go that far, but he hasn't been missed.

"Why on god’s green earth can we not stop a kickoff return?" I can't tell if it's the coaches or the players. We don't have any ST ace, but almost every roster move had a ST implication...

"Mason Crossbars is officially not one of my “favorite guys” any longer." It's Mason "Wide Right" Crosby...

"I read an analysis somewhere that said Aaron Rodgers was playing good, but hadn’t really attributed to the 2-3 more wins the season. Are you frickin’ kiddin’ me? No way he doesn’t make the top 10 list at quarterback right now." Top 5, you mean...

"Still not on the Grant bandwagon. No consistency. At one point he makes a beautiful cut back run, and then it’s back to the old Ryan Grant again. It was nice to see him on a couple of screens, but he couldn’t get it done in the second half." Grant has started to play well... I believe he's a late bloomer...

"That was a cheap shot on Finley. I don’t know why the Packers didn’t let him have any payback. No doubt though, Finley is going to be a stud. That is, when he doesn’t drop passes in the endzone." The Lions punish themselves...

"I would rather be on the 20 than the 10. We would score a lot more. Seriously." If MM hadn't call for 3 straight passes in the redzone, we might've done better.

"The linebackers had a nice game minus Poppinga who still sucks." Oh yeah, Poppinga sucks. And gets paid like a starter...

"Good luck next year Kamp, hopefully in the AFC." Amen to that. If that guy's wearing purple next year...

And I totally agree about Rodgers, I thought about it and there are exactly 3 QB's I would take over Aaron at this moment (TB, PM, DB), not bad for a 2nd year starter, kid's LEGIT!

Killer. I knew people still played around in the arcade, just not who. I gave up on that game after missing that jump like 1,000 times. Now I play the war game.

By the way, the pass that Finley appeared to drop in the end zone looked like it was tipped by the defender. Finley said afterwards that it was indeed tipped.

PackersRS: You may be onto something with your comment about Barbre. He was so awful in pass protection that he may have dragged the whole line down to some extent. The line has been a lot better with either Tauscher or Lang at RT.

I'll have to defer to Jersey Al's tivo on that one, but Finley should have had that. Naturally though, he is going to say it was tipped.

It was tipped. DB got his hand around Finley and hit the ball. Tivo replay confirms it... Rodgers was just a little late with that pass. Finley was open and waiting for the ball.
