Dammit Ted: Revised

The Green Bay Packers and Ted Thompson were "this" close to closing the deal on Tony Gonzalez yesterday. According to the Milwaukee Journal, the negotiations went right up to the deadline.
Here is an excerpt from the article.
"A source familiar with negotiations told the Journal Sentinel that Chiefs President Carl Peterson ultimately decided to retain Gonzalez after turning down the best offer from Green Bay, which was a third-round selection. The source said Peterson wanted a second-rounder to make the deal.
The decision by general manager Ted Thompson not to send the second-round pick to Kansas City was made just minutes before the National Football League trading deadline of 3 p.m.
During a day of talks between Green Bay and Kansas City, the Packers increased their compensation offer several times. A source said Gonzalez had told the Chiefs that he would accept a trade to the Packers, and planned to play three more seasons."
Once again Ted Thompson can't part with his precious draft pick. This really pisses me off. I'm starting to jump ship on Ted, I've seen enough.
PackerGeeks has a nice write-up as well.
EDIT: After picking up this little tid-bit I will retract my statement against Ted Thompson. This from Scout.com:
"An NFL source confirmed that to Packer Report, and went one step further, saying the Packers had sent trade papers to the Chiefs, only for Kansas City to up the ante to a second-round pick just before the trade deadline."
Dammit Kansas City.

I am thoroughly fed up with it. A good coach tries to get a nice balance between the run and the pass.
A GM should do the same, with the draft and free-agents.
