Was That Brett Favre...

...in the snow yesterday? I could have sworn I heard nothing but how great he is and how the Packers really missed his leadership this year and how there was nothing to the assertion that he looks great in the early part of the year every year but would surely fade in December as he has the past three years. This is the great Brett Favre! I mean, Aaron Rodgers is the one who can't lead a 4th quarter comeback, right? Not Favre. He's the man, the myth the legend! 4th and 4? Who cares! Chuck it 40 yards into double coverage! (and here I will concede: it was probably his best throw on the day. Brilliant.) He's just having fun out there!

I could go on (and would love to) but you get the point.

It's becoming painfully obvious that Favre can't go a full 16 games anymore. (Now that I have said that, watch him go crazy next week).

His best option is to figure out how to stay on the sidelines until next November and then come in as a "midseason replacement" as it were.

In order to do it, though, the Jets would need to cut him with no strings attached and Favre would have to be willing to end his streak. Two things I don't see happening.

Great article about that at yahoo sports. http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=cr-winnersandlosers122108&prov... Link above. I think DDD got it right. Especialy missing the off season conditioning this year Favre is just plain old tired. At least he didn't look like he wanted off the field in the cold this year.

That was the best throw of the day.

I could be way off here but I think I detect a small amount of sarcasm from our beloved blogmaster

Since the Farve and the Jets won back to back games against NE and TEN where he threw 4 TDs and 1 INT and threw for nearly 500 yards Farve has thrown 1 TD and 6 INTs in his last 4 games.

You take away Farve's 6 TD performance against the pretender Cardinals and he's sitting at 15 TDs and 19 INTs right now...OUCH!!!!

Farve has also been Sacked 30 times this year just like Rodgers....

Seriously the arguements that it was a bad decision to Trade Farve need to STOP.

The guy was done as he HIMSELF said in his retirement PC. You know what, he was right.

Ugh... I hate these discussions. You cannot compare Favre's stats to Rodgers's. It isn't fair.

Favre had to show up and learn an entirely different offensive scheme on the fly, while also learning the tendencies of his new teammates (where they like the ball, etc.)

Rodgers has been in GB for 3 seasons before assuming the mantle of starter, so he should know the offense and his WRs.

Further, the Packers offense is much more explosive and wide open than the Jets, not to mention McCarthy is a much better playcaller than Schottenheimer.

The point? I think if Favre had decided that he wanted to come back right away, went through offseason conditioning, and was with the Pack from day 1... we would have made the playoffs and he would have a season much like last year. Rodgers was very good and not the reason why the Pack lost games, but he wasn't the reason he won them either, if you know what I'm saying.

With that said, I would agree that letting Favre walk was the right move. Why? Because I don't want to lose Rodgers. He played very well this year and I expect him to be even better next season, becoming a QB who will go out and win his team a game on his own.

"Rodgers was very good and not the reason why the Pack lost games, but he wasn’t the reason he won them either, if you know what I’m saying."
He likely would have been if the defense could actually make a stop.

PackerBelle, I know what you're saying, but you're kind of missing the point. A truly elite QB will lead his team to the playoffs. There is a reason Favre only had one sub-.500 season in 16 seasons at GB.

But like I said above, I think Rodgers could get there, perhaps as early as next season.

Keith, a truly elite QB will lead his team to the Superbowl.

I think Favre was an elite QB and I think he is one of the best to play in the NFL. But he's not anymore and I don't think he has been for a long time.

I knew Keith was going to weigh in on this as soon as I read the post. See Keith, I honored my commitment to you from the last time we discussed this - I didn't say a word about BF (as hard as it is!). I've moved on mentally to next year. I took your advice. When is opening day?

Andrew, you're right, and I probably should listen to my own advice.

Anyway, I don't think the offense has been as good as some think. Has the defense been worse? For sure. However, think of the Minnesota game, the only reason we were in that game was because of a INT return and a punt return. The offense stunk that game. even the NO game, NO's D stinks. If this offense was so good they would have kept up with NO and that game should have been a shootout In the Carolina game, they couldn't score from the goal line and Carolina proceeded to march down the field and score. Yeah, that was a terrible job by the defense, but the offense needs to score there.

I'm not trying to disparage the offense at all. I think Rodgers has been better than we could have hoped. However, I feel like a lot of fans want Aaron to be the next Tom Brady so badly that they don't realize that he is still a flawed QB and there were times this season when the offense struggled.

I guess my point is this, the defense is an easy target because they've been so bad, but the offense should bear some culpability because while they've been good, its not like they've been NO or Arizona level, IMO.

Keith, new offense or not, Farve has had a DRAMATIC slide at the end of the season, and really if you look at his last several seasons his level of play overall has dropped off late in the season.

The reason it happened this year, IMO, had FAR more to do with Farve's lack of offseason conditioning than with his new team.

Cannot believe we're still chasing around about the NY JETS. This is CHEESEHEAD-TV, right?

When, not if, Favre comes home, resigns with the Pack, to retire and we settle down on a date for when we have the Lambeau Ceremony and the Cheesehead Wagon Train to Canton ... then I'll be glad to discuss how well BF has played in a football game.

Half my Shrine is all Brett Favre.
I even have a five-stripe jersey.

Let's all move on and enjoy the memories.

PS: Did anyone notice the JET LAG, for every game they had on the Left Coast, this season? [j/k]
