McDermott Is In the Mix

This is excellent news.

Adam Schefter of the NFL Network reports that Eagles secondary coach (and seemingly, Cheesehead TV reader favorite) Sean McDermott is, along with Mike Nolan and Greg Williams, a leading candidate for the defensive coordinator job.

Now I’ll be all conflicted watching today’s game. On the one hand, I will be at my father-in-laws place (a big Giants fan) and the wife and I were looking forward to openly rooting for the Eagles just to annoy him. On the other hand, I now really want the Eagles to lose so that McDermott gets a chance to interview…

  1. Good news. It makes sense. Given that McCarthy has not extended an offer to Williams or Nolan.

As I said, I would so much rather land a rising star than a retread head coach.

  2. Ron La Canne says:

Annoying the father-in-law is probably risky business. Just ask my daughter’s husband (Just kidding Joe). I do like the idea of the Philly attacking defense though.

All along in this conversation, I felt that it’s more how the defense is played than what the defense is. NO MORE “BEND BUT DON’T BREAK”! Give me either the 3-4 or the 4-3, but along with it a total dedication to aggressive play from the opeming kickoff til the last second clicks off the clock.

Along with that philosophy, key positions needs to be supplemented by FA’s and High draft choices regardless of the defensive style. Note to TT: We have enough WR’s.

just an fyi, the Jaguars d-coordinator is Gregg Williams (with two g’s at the end), not Greg.

  4. dustybricks6 says:

Here’s the defensive coordinator I want hired: He/She sits down for his/her interview and leans across Mccarthy’s desk and whispers, “I’ve got this crazy idea for a play call, I call it the blitz.”

  5. Ron La Canne says:

Screw the interview hire McDermott now. His guys made Manning sqared look like the geek he was early last year. He is now officially “my guy”. That was one of the really good defensive performances I’ve ever seen. Interceptions, fumble recoveries, and two fourth down stops. If I can’t have Jim Johnson, then I want one of his clones.

  6. Astyak says:

The aggressive approach to the game is what we need. If McDermott brings that bring him on.

  7. PRC says:

Don’t hire McDermott just because of how manning looked yesterday. The Giants lost 4 of 5 after Plaxico Burress shot himself and got suspended.

McDermott may or may not be the answer.

Personally I want a guy who’s been a successful DC before. A guy like Williams or Giunta (DB coach for the Giants) who is now available to be interviewed.
