Burnett Makes Sense

On the heels of Tom Silverstien's report this morning that the Packers are interested in former Dallas linebacker Kevin Burnett comes this post from Pete Dougherty stating that the Packers are indeed attempting to bring Burnett in for a visit, though his agent is currently negotiating with the Raiders and is about to begin with the Chargers.

This is exactly the kind of player Thompson should be targeting and is a perfect example of the kind of 2nd or 3rd tier free agent that could come in and immediately make an impact. He would be an excellent compliment opposite Kampman and would automatically become the best coverage backer on the team (with apologies to Brandon Chillar)

I was considering writing a blog post on the same topic, but you beat me to it. I love the idea of Kevin Burnett joining the Packers. He may be one of the most underrated signings in free agency in the entire NFL no matter who he signs with. Only 26 years old, he already has enough experience and athleticism to be an impact player in what should be his most productive years.

I assume Bedard's comments are correct. If he is on the market because Dallas doesn't have the money, he is sure worth a look. AJ - disappointing, Barnett - just back from big injury and too small for ILB in the 3-4, "Poopinga" - I won't even bother, Chillar - Had some good games, had some bad games, Bishop - still amkes mistakes but, is more a 3-4 ILB than anyone else, Havner - Who?, and Lansanah - Yeah right.

Sure bring him in. Of course, that requires someone to actually talk to him.

At one point, Canty made sense, too.

I'm finding it somewhat funny how players "make sense" before they sign elsewhere, and then we come up with a plethora or reasons why it was a great move not to sign them....

Canty still makes sense. And it was indeed a great move not to sign him, not for the money the Giants gave him. The two aren't mutually exclusive...

I know what you're saying, Aaron. It just gets to a point where I don't even like getting my hopes up on being optimistic about a player...not because Thompson doesn't end up signing him, but how suddenly he's a "lazy" guy, or a "locker-room cancer", or my personal favorite...he's not "Packer People".
The money is always going to separate the wheat from the (Packer) brass. I just don't like hyping a guy when he's a potential candidate, and then disparaging him when he doesn't.

Holiday makes sense, Taylor makes sense, Canty makes sense, Burnett makes sense, and Adams makes sense to most (I'm reluctant on him). One thing they all have in common - THEY AIN'T IN GB.

Silvertein says maybe a visit this weekend. Agent says maybe, but could be signed before then. And the beat goes on (Thanks to Sonny and Cher). Plus -Holiday not good enough to beat out Harrell. Not enough left in his tank,

why if a player is of interest are we not the first team to take a shot at him, not the 3rd or 4th?
