Moving on from players are hard decisions. In todays NFL, so much money is pushed back to later years that dumping someone is always expensive. And it's means admitting failure in your drafting philosophy and in GB player selection hasn't been real strong for years now and it has hurt us. The positive in the money we lose in the future is the salary cap keeps going up so there is somewhat less sting.
It's better to move on from a mistake earlier than later, per Bill Belichick who has been mildly successful coaching in the NFL. If teams have the money they can always buy an already successful player to replace the mistake. And it really shouldn't be the crapshoot that Green Bay turned it into last year with Banks & Hobbs.
You build your team mainly from the draft with cheaper but still not "Guaranteed Players." Sometimes the best players are right in front of our faces, and we overthink the selection. Hopefully that scenario doesn't happen this year because unless we "Mortgage the Farm" with contract restructures, we won't have much money to spend.
Maybe instead of just cutting players our front office can show their skill by trading them and adding to our draft pick war chest. Someone will want Gary, his salary isn't that excessive that another team wouldn't take a chance. Musgrave is another that needs a fresh start, he improved his worth at the end of the year.
I brought up the idea of signing and then trading Rasheed Walker and it was not received with enthusiasm. Funny thing but I have read multiple articles recently that suggest the same thing, and some "Experts" like the idea. Franchise tag or transition tag has been thrown out there, find a trade partner and receive back at the least a 2nd round pick, probably multiple picks. A tag dollar amount of $25 million will be right in the ballpark of what Walker will get anyway, and this path guarantees a team gets Walker with no bidding war attached. Walker is the "Best" OT available this year and a LT to boot. Trade him before the draft as the pick/picks would be huge for us this year since we have no first rounder. Teams always overpay for certain types of FA players.
If not picks, try to trade for a specific need like DT-D'Vondre Sweat or a CB. This off season is going to be crucial to get contract restructures, a few cheap FA pickups right, and the draft has to be more hit than miss.

I think if the Packers move on from Q, someone will sign him to play the weak side and he'll be a fixture for them.
