Free agent wide receiver Logan Payne will reportedly sign with the Minnesota Vikings today, Chip Scoggins of the Star Tribune reports.
Payne (6-2, 205) caught 97 passes for 1,344 yards and 11 touchdowns during a 46-game career at the University of Minnesota, but was not selected in the 2007 NFL Draft.
Signed as a free agent by the Seattle Seahawks, Payne caught 4 passes for 35 yards during the 2007 pre-season, but was at the end of training camp and signed to the practice squad. Payne caught 8 passes for 82 yards during the 2008 pre-season, earning a spot on Seattle's 53-man roster. Injuries pressed Payne into a starting role for the first two games of the regular season, and Payne caught 3 passes for 39 yards, and adding a special teams tackle as a gunner on the punt coverage unit. A torn ACL in Week 2 ended his season.
Payne caught 5 passes for 82 yards and a touchdown during the 2009 pre-season, but was waived at end of training camp. Payne spent parts of last season on the Seahawks, Detroit Lions, and Kansas City Chiefs' practice squads.
