Titans to Re-Sign QB Chris Simms

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Tennessee Titans have reached agreement on a one-year deal with free agent quarterback Chris Simms.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

Along with fellow free agent quarterback Patrick Ramsey, Simms had visited the Titans' Baptist Park headquarters on March 30. Separately, both Simms and Ramsey had spent time with the Titans over the last two seasons.

Simms, 29, spent the 2008 season as the #3 quarterback, behind starter Kerry Collins and back-up Vince Young. The 6-4, 230-pound left-hander appeared in one game for the Titans, completing 1-of-2 pass attempts for 7 yards in the Titans' regular season finale, a 23-0 loss to the Indianapolis Colts. Simms was also sacked once, and posted a passer rating of 58.3.

A former third-round pick (97th overall) by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers out of Texas in 2003, Simms has completed 58.1% of his passes for 3,117 yards, with 12 touchdowns and 18 interceptions during his career. He has a career passer rating of 69.1.

Last season, Simms appeared in three games for the Denver Broncos, making one start and completing 5-of-17 pass attempts for 23 yards and an interception. Simms was scheduled to earn $2.54 million dollars in base salary in the second year of a two-year, $6 million dollar contract, but he was released on March 15 after the Broncos acquired quarterback Brady Quinn from the Cleveland Browns.
