Saints Sign RB Joique Bell Off Eagles Practice Squad

Adam Caplan of FOXSports.com reports the New Orleans Saints have signed running back Joique Bell off the Philadelphia Eagles' practice squad.

The Saints will need to make a corresponding transaction to add Bell to the 53-man roster.

An undrafted free agent from Wayne State, Bell has had a nomadic rookie season. Signed by the Buffalo Bills in April, Bell had a team-high 152 yards rushing on 27 carries, with 2 touchdowns, during the pre-season, but was waived and re-signed to the practice squad.

Philadelphia signed Bell to their 53-man roster in Week 3, and appeared in three games before he was placed on waivers. Claimed by the Indianapolis Colts, Bell was active for five games, during which he was credited with one special teams tackle.

Bell joined the Eagles practice squad in Week 15.

The 5-11, 225-pound adds big-bodied depth to a Saints' backfield that lost Chris Ivory, the team's leading rusher in 2010, for the playoffs with a foot injury. Pierre Thomas, who led the Saints in rushing during the Super Bowl season in 2009, has been slowed by an ankle injury.

Earlier this week, the Saints signed 5-10, 232-pound DeShawn Wynn.
