Rams to Sign RB Chauncey Washington

The St. Louis Rams will sign running back Chauncey Washington off the New York Jets practice squad, reports Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

A seventh-round pick out of USC by the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2008, the 5-11, 222-pound Washington has nine yards on four carries, and one reception for 8 yards, in 8 NFL games with the Jaguars (2008) and Dallas Cowboys (2009).

Washington has added a pair of tackles on special teams, as well.

During the 2010 pre-season, Washington gained 75 yards on 20 carries and, to the delight of head coach Rex Ryan, forced a fumble on special teams.

Washington adds depth to the Rams' backfield, which may be without running back Steven Jackson (strained groin) when the Rams host the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday. If Jackson can't play, Kenneth Darby and Keith Toston are expected to see more action.
