Patriots Sign DL Atiyyah Ellison

The New England Patriots announced the signing of veteran defensive lineman Atiyyah Ellison on Tuesday.

Ellison (6-3, 315) was a third-round pick out of Missouri by the Carolina Panthers in 2005, but didn't appear in his first NFL regular season game until last season.

A starter in six of 15 games for the Jacksonville Jaguars, Ellison totaled 28 tackles and a quarterback sack and was re-signed by the Jaguars in March. Ellison had four tackles during the pre-season, but was released as part of Jacksonville's final roster cuts.

In addition to Carolina and Jacksonville, Ellison has had stints with the Baltimore Ravens, San Francisco 49ers, and one week with the Kansas City Chiefs in October.

First-year defensive tackle Marlon Favorite has been added to the practice squad. Favorite earned a Super Bowl ring as a member of the New Orleans Saints practice squad in 2009.
