Patriots Sign 2nd Round TE Rob Gronkowski

Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com reports the New England Patriots have signed second round tight end Rob Gronkowski.

Financial details of the four-year contract are forthcoming.

The 6-6, 258-pound Gronkowski caught 75 passes for 1,197 yards and 16 touchdowns during his first two seasons at the University of Arizona, picking up honorable mention (2007) and first-team (2008) All-Pac-10 honors, as well as third-team All-American honors following the ’08 season.

A back injury caused Gronkowski to miss the entire 2009 season, but Gronkowski opted to enter the 2010 NFL Draft anyway. Unable to work out at the Combine, Gronkowski ran a 4.68-40 with a 33.5” vertical leap and a 9’11” broad jump at his pro day on March 27, solidifying his status as a second-day draft pick.

Gronkowski is expected to play immediately for the Patriots, and will learn under the watchful eye of four-time Pro Bowler Alge Crumpler, who was signed to mentor Gronkowski and fourth-round tight end Aaron Hernandez.
