Mark Brunell, Former Teammates Facing Multiple Lawsuits

WTLV in Jacksonville reports that Champion LLC, a company owned by former Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Mark Brunell and former teammates Todd Fordham and Joel Smeenge is facing multiple lawsuits regarding failed business loans.

According to the report, CNL Bank in Jacksonville filed a lawsuit against Champion LLC, which failed to make repayment on a $2.2 million dollar loan. A Grand Rapids, Michigan-based bank, Select Bank, has already received a judge's ruling involving a $1.1 million dollar loan that the company allegedly defaulted on.

"The company (Champion LLC) didn't remain current on the loan and there was no question that our clients were guarantors on that loan. There were no defenses that could be raised so we did not contest that," Michael Freed, the player's attorney, said.

Smeenge, who spent ten seasons in the NFL with the New Orleans Saints (1991-94) and Jaguars (1995-2000), has filed for bankruptcy.

Brunell will reportedly sign with the New York Jets later this off-season.
