Jets Sign 4th Round RB Joe McKnight

The New York Jets have signed fourth-round running back Joe McKnight, his agent, Eugene Parker, announced on Twitter.

Financial terms of the four-year deal were not disclosed.

McKnight (5-11, 198) was expected to be the next Reggie Bush when he arrived on the USC campus, but never quite lived up to the billing. In three seasons, McKnight totaled 2,213 yards and 13 touchdowns on the ground, with 66 receptions for 547 yards and two scores as a receiver out of the backfield.

McKnight also returned punts his first two seasons with the Trojans, but only did so sparingly once he was elevated to a starting role in 2009.

The Jets are expected to employ McKnight in a variety of ways this season, including at wide receiver, as Jets offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer feels the speedy McKnight could be a dangerous weapon operating out of the slot.

McKnight is the second of the Jets' four 2010 draft picks to sign a contract.
