Dolphins Waive OT Jermey Parnell

To make room for offensive tackle Patrick Brown, the Miami Dolphins have placed first-year offensive tackle Jermey Parnell on waivers, a league source said.

On Friday, the Dolphins claimed the 6-5, 309-pound Brown off waivers from the New York Jets, who had placed him on waivers to elevate former Dolphins third-round wide receiver Patrick Turner to the 53-man roster.

The Jets and Dolphins face one another on Sunday night at Sun Life Stadium in Miami.

Parnell (6-6, 290) played only one season of football, at defensive end, at Ole Miss, only putting on the pads after playing four years on the basketball team. Signed by the New Orleans Saints as an undrafted free agent in 2009, Parnell moved from defensive end to tight end to the offensive line, spending his rookie season on the Saints' practice squad, picking up a Super Bowl ring in the process.

The Saints placed Parnell on waivers on September 4, where he was claimed by the Dolphins. Parnell was inactive for both of the Dolphins' games this season.
