Dolphins Sign 4th Round LB A.J. Edds

The Miami Dolphins have signed fourth-round linebacker A.J. Edds to a four-year contract, Aaron Wilson of the National Football Post reports.

Wilson adds that Edds received a $477,000 signing bonus, making the base value of Edds' contract worth $2.267 million dollars.

A three-year starter at the University of Iowa, the 6-4, 246-pound Edds totaled 226 tackles during his career, including 13 behind the opponents' line of scrimmage and 2.5 quarterback sacks. Edds also defended 12 passes, and had 7 interceptions.

Edds earned All-Big Ten honors after his junior (honorable mention) and senior (second-team) seasons.

An outside linebacker for the Hawkeyes, Edds will play inside linebacker in the Dolphins' 3-4 scheme, and in addition to playing a key role on special teams, could see some action on obvious passing downs.

Edds is the second member of the Dolphins' eight 2010 draft picks to sign a contract, joining seventh-round linebacker Chris McCoy, who signed last Tuesday.
