Cowboys Trade WR Patrick Crayton to the Chargers

Jason La Canfora of the NFL Network reports the Dallas Cowboys have traded veteran wide receiver Patrick Crayton to the San Diego Chargers.

The Chargers will send a 2011 seventh-round pick to the Cowboys, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.

Crayton is scheduled to earn $2 million in base salary this season, and as the fourth receiver in Dallas, was likely to be released.

A seventh-round pick (216th overall) out of Northwest Oklahoma State by the Cowboys in 2004,, Crayton has been a part-time starter, catching 196 passes for 2,888 yards and 23 touchdowns.

Crayton caught 37 passes for 622 yards and 5 touchdowns in 16 games in 2009.

Though Darren Sproles has a handle on the return duties in San Diego, Crayton has averaged 9.6 yards per punt return throughout his career, and set a career-high in 2009 with a 12.1-yard average bolstered by his first two returns for touchdowns, both of over 70 yards.
