Clifton Smith to Sign With Miami

Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Clifton Smith is set to sign with the Miami Dolphins, Jason Wilde of ESPN Milwaukee reports.

Smith, released by the Buccaneers on September 5, worked out for the Green Bay Packers on Tuesday and was scheduled to do the same for the Dolphins on Wednesday.

According to Wilde, Smith has informed the Packers that signed with Miami.

Signed by the Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent out of Fresno State in 2008, Smith (5-8, 190) went to the Pro Bowl as a return specialist as a rookie after scoring two touchdowns while averaging 27.6 yards on 36 kick returns and 14.1 yards on 23 punt returns.

Smith averaged 10.1 yards on 23 punt returns, and 29.1 yards on 31 kick returns in 2009 before going on injured reserve with a concussion.

In addition to his kick and punt returns, Smith has rushed for 47 yards on 12 carries and caught six passes for 28 yards, with 8 special teams tackles and a fumble recovery.
