Chargers Place Donald Butler on IR

The San Diego Chargers officially placed third-round linebacker Donald Butler on injured reserve, Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Additionally, running back Marcus Mason, wide receiver Gary Banks, linebacker Darry Beckwith, and guard Lee Grimes were waived, getting the Chargers to the 75-man roster limit.

San Diego traded up to select Butler, a 6-1, 245-pound inside linebacker from the University of Washington, with the 79th overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft. Butler was expected to contribute on special teams as a rookie, and was thought to see some additional time as a pass-rushing linebacker, but suffered a torn Achilles' tendon on August 3.
