Buccaneers Sign 7th Round S Cody Grimm

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced the signing of seventh-round safety Cody Grimm.

Financial terms were not disclosed. Undrafted rookie defensive back Dennis Rogan was waived to make room for Grimm on the 80-man roster.

A walk-on at Virginia Tech who was relegated to special teams duties his first two seasons in Blacksburg, Grimm played his way into the starting lineup at linebacker by his senior season, earning third-team All-American honors after the 2009 season.

Grimm, the son of Hall of Fame guard Russ Grimm, totaled 207 tackles, including 23.5 for a loss and 10 quarterback sacks. Grimm added 7 pass break-ups, intercepted two passes, and forced 9 fumbles during his career, including an NCAA-best 7 during the 2009 season.

At 5-11 and 203 pounds, Grimm will move to the back-end of the secondary in the NFL. Grimm ran the 40-yard dash in 4.48 seconds at his Pro Day, and posted a vertical leap of 35.5” at the 2010 Scouting Combine. Special teams will be his ticket to a spot on the 53-man roster this summer.
