Broncos RB Knowshon Moreno to Have MRI on Hamstring

Denver Broncos second-year running back Knowshon Moreno was carted off the field this morning with a leg injury.

According to FOX 31's Josina Anderson, Moreno will undergo an MRI on his right hamstring, and Mike Klis of the Denver Post is told that the injury appears serious.

The 12th overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, Moreno started 9 of 16 games last season, leading the Broncos with 947 rushing yards and scoring 7 of the team's 9 rushing touchdowns. Back-up running back Correll Buckhalter (back) was also injured this morning, less than 24 hours after dealing running back J.J. Arrington to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Should Buckhalter and Moreno miss considerable time, oft-injured running back Kolby Smith, claimed off waivers from the Kansas City Chiefs in June, would ascend to the top of the team's depth chart. Expect the Broncos to start working the phones to add reinforcements, perhaps stepping up their interest in Brian Westbrook.
