The Six Pack

The Six Pack

Holy cow, there are a lot of things to talk about. I have a feeling a six pack isn't going to be enough, so be prepared to drink up a little extra Green Bay Packers news today.

The Six Pack

1. We'll start with the easy stuff. Here are the new uniforms. Here is where you can vote on the new uniforms and see Nick Collins modeling one. Looks like people either love them or hate them.

2. Ryan Pickett and Nick Collins both signed to extensions on the same day? Like I said earlier, I think someone replaced Ted with a blow up Thompson doll. Either way, way to get it done fake Ted.

3. Thanks to @hammen from Twitter, there are some great pics of fan fest here. Kevin Greene in snakeskin boot... gotta love it.

4. How about a picture of Taylor Mays wearing his Packer gear?

5. CheeseheadTV spent some time overhauling their site. Can we call them CH2 now?

6. According to Brian Carriveau, Tauscher is next to be signed.

1. Make sure you join our Facebook page. Fuzzy Thurston's wife has been hanging out there, and it's getting kind of fun. If you don't like Facebook, try LoungeBook - friend everyone you can, it's more entertaining.

2. If you haven't already, sign up for the NCAA bracket challenge. We are giving away tons of prizes, and trust me when I say there are some GREAT ones to come. Thanks to those who donated and of course to untuckem™.

2. I wonder if Management had planned for them to both be announced both contracts on the same day-- more notably at the end of the week and on fan fest. It's a good strategy to build buzz in a fan base. I am glad they locked up collins with a short term deal-- that way he'll be motivated for another pay-day.

4. I wonder where that pic was taken. It looks like CM3's private weight room. If so is he in Green Bay? Why would he be in Green Bay? Looks like someone's dipping too... Either way with that 40-time it wouldn't surprise me if he wasn't available at 23 anyway.

That's cool to see Mays showing some love.

I don't think that he will be a solid safety at the next level.

I do think the kid could add a little weight and develop into a beast @ OLB?!?

He never played the position. And I don't know about his pass rushing ability. Just because he's freakish fast, doesn't mean he can beat Olinemen... He never had a sack in his career...

I think, no matter where he's placed, he's a one, two year project...

But, how many DE's get drafted having never stood up only to be asked to do it in the pros? I would think Mays would be ahead of the curve being that he's stood up his entire career.

I highly doubt it will happen, I just think there would be some awesome potential for him outside. We KNOW the kid can hit. Not to many RB's would/could turn the corner on his side; having played DB he's use to coverage duties (though very questionable in that area; still think he'd be better than say a Brandon Graham in coverage) and should be able to hang with most TE's. And I think an athlete like that could get to the QB, though you're correct he wasn't asked to do much of that in college (just projecting, could be wrong).

IMHO it's a whole different animal, DEs to OLB than S to OLB.

DEs have battled OLs all their life. They have the skills to rush the passer. It's a transition that not all do, moving to standing up, because a lot of those college rusher relied much more on their athletic ability to rush the passer than in inteligence and moves. And those guys have some moves, imagine Mays that has none, just athletic ability?

The most important aspect of the OLB is rushing the passer, not covering. And Mays never did it.

It's a much smoother projection moving him to ILB, where he's asked more to contain the run, which is his best trait. I think he'd do well in that.

But he's not good at taking angles, and that could be critical.

All in all, I just think he's solely an athletic freak, without ball skills. His intangibles are terrific, though, hard worker and a leader, so he MIGHT be able to be coached into a very good player.

But I don't know how much a guy that doesn't know how to play can be coached.

Jarrett Bush has tons of athletic ability...

It's absolutely a different animal.

I don't know that I remember a safety transitioning to OLB (most aren't near big enough, Mays is close to ideal), so there isn't really anything for me to reference. I just think with his passion to 'bring the wood',coupled with his athleticism/skill set, it could be a transition that could work (if he bulked up a bit). I bet a kid like that could develop a pretty sweet speed rush...

We'll probably never get a chance to find out though.

Who needs a Mays in the 1st when you can get a Hughes in the 2nd???

Completely agree.

Plus, my overall repulsion towards Taylor Mays is well documented, by now.

But I doubt we can get Huges in the late second. Though I'd gladly move up to get him!
