Sound of Silence

That sound you here is the nothingness that was the first few hours of the 2009 Packers free agency period. As expected, all was quiet from the offices of Ted Thompson and company.

With the flurry of signings kicking off at midnight, we waited anxiously to hear anything unexpected pop up early in the campaign. But, true to form, the team smartly chose to wait it out.

The most interesting moment of the evening was with a brief question and answer period with Greg Bedard, Packers reporter for the Milwaukee Journal, and Cheesehead TV Packer blog super icon.

Through the power of Twitter, I was able to get a couple of interesting things from the conversation.

Firstly, he says to remember the name of Texans safety CC Brown. As strange as that may seem after securing Atari Bigby, it certainly piqued my interest.

He also said that he knows the Packers are taking a look at centers. Although he didn't throw out any names, he did mention that Matt Birk was not in the equation.

Grey Ruegemar anyone? He does chomp a mean lamb testicle.

On the Packers deciding to keep Jarrett Bush he told us, " The Packers like his athleticism."

Sigh.

I would like to thank Mr. Bedard for being so accessible unlike certain other Packer reporters. It was cool to get some inside info as we all huddled around our machines looking for anything to satisfy the hunger.

But alas, all was quiet. Perhaps the volume will be turned up today.
