Pay Favre to Sit?

Pay Favre to Sit?

A Year ago Mark Murphy offered Brett a 20 million dollar olive branch. Brett declined. What about this year?

Supposedly there was a flight from Hattiesburg to Green Bay. If it’s Favre – why? Some believe Favre really could be retired this time and is quite interested in that twenty million dollar deal to stay retired. The Favre-to-Vikings rumors aren’t new to anyone, especially our boys at Lambeau. Could Favre be extorting the Packers?

“Pay me lots of money to mow the grass or I go to Minnesota and make you pay.”

I hope that’s not the way it is but Favre continues to slip down that moral slope every month starting years ago so it would not shock me.

I’m probably overreacting but for a second let’s pretend I’m 100% correct, what should we do?

Should we pay the man and let the nightmare end or should we say “We’re not paying you anything. You had your chance at this lucrative deal last year to avoid the embarrassing situation you put yourself in. You want to play against us? See you on Sunday.”

What would you do if you were Mark Murphy?

If he wants to play, let him play. He is no longer our "problem". Sure, it would be kind of sickening to see him in purple (if that were to happen), but so be it. Why waste the money when it is so tight just so he CAN'T play? I am sure he will eventually get some kind of marketing deal with us (much farther down the road now than if had stayed retired last year)

Let him play. Even if he takes the Vikes to two victories over the Pack in the early season, he'll fade even earlier down the home stretch than he did last year and it'll be the Bears or Pack that takes the NFC North Champ road to the playoffs. I'd love to see him play in the black and blue division again too, I think he may have gotten off easy last year.

Apperently that plane had A Favre on it, but it was Mrs.Favre, But even if it were true I don't think we should give that kind of money to Favre for a marketing deal, I don't think it would be worth it, he name is mud right now to GB fans. I think if they wait a few years it might be worth some money but it's too soon after having all that fuss last year. If he wants to go play again go for it, I hope our D will welcome him back in style.

Simply put. Last year was the only time Ted would lay down the money, so he would have one more year to put the Packers in the right position. The window has passed, and for the Favre, the only way to best Thompson is to join the Vikings, which he doesnt want to do.

Because my view on Favre is, he doesnt want to play, if he knows he can jip money away from Thompson's budget.

you know the way that Favre keeps crapping on his own reputation the less lucrative that deal will be.

If Favre drags this out ANOTHER summer, more people will start resenting him instead of worshipping him. If he goes and plays for the Vikings, theres a huge faction of people that will not want to have anything else to do with him ever, including me. If he goes and has another craptastic season like he did in New York.... thats just several more notches he knocks his own myth and legend down. So i mean... how many fans will be left? Elmo and Asshalo can only buy so many retro Favre jerseys ya know?

So the ball is totally in his court, because who the hell is gonna want to pay $20 for some aging diva's signature, especially when he spends the last 2 years of his career ripping away the facade of is his legend. and thats really what this 20 million dollar deal is all about. the Packers would be able to get a % of whatever merchandise Favre is able to help sell with his name. If his name is mud, how much do the Packers stand to gain?

I can second "If he goes and plays for the Vikings, theres a huge faction of people that will not want to have anything else to do with him ever."

I've seen a lot of talk from my friends that they were with him so far, but will completely turn on Favre if he done the purple jersey.

The Packers will benefit more from this deal than Favre will. $20 million is NOTHING compared to what the Packers will get from Pro Shop sales.

This deal WILL happen.

Hey Packnic..

What if he takes the Vikings to the SB this year....and WINS!

I think that you'll wish you played him, JACKASS.....

Ted Thompson is an ASSCLOWN.....When the Pack tanks this year...even the slow-witted Tromadz will come to realize tha this is true!

hmmm. mister bates, you still think Ted Thompson is an assclown?

I mean now that Brett is staying retired, he just got a 3rd round pick for a guy who played one crappy season in New York and re-retired. pretty good work from an idiot GM if you ask me.
